bullshots, trust meZoomZoom2490
Then let's be consistent with that criticism, alright? The Game Informer Uncharted 2 screens show no aliasing whatsoever, so therefore they are also bullshots.
[QUOTE="Eyezonmii"][QUOTE="Sgt_Hale"] Lol, dude... RE5 does not look better than this. RE5 is so reminiscent of MGS4 it's not even funny. That's not a bad thing though... obviously means the game will look great.ZoomZoom2490
First of all lets not jump to conclusions on Uncharted 2 being a graphics king because that makes no sense after seeing what Killzone 2 has had to offer. The pictures in the Game Informer do look pretty damn amazing though when your reading the actual magazine. The screenshots you posted of Resident Evil 5 are not in game (its close though lol), and I can vouch for that as I've also played through the demo. RE5 does look absolutely phenomenal though and it will probably look even better upon release, I just hope they update the animations a bit more as it still feels eerily similar to RE4.
The one thing that impresses me about Uncharted 2 the most though, is that its at least 4-5 months away from launching and it already looks highly polished and a bit better then the first. The original is still console graphics king in my book, with Metal Gear Solid 4 and Gears 2 in a very close second and third.
So far 09 looks like the year that console graphics get taken to a totally different level, as developers are now showing their familiarity with the hardware.
09 thus far stacks up as
1) Killzone 2
2) Uncharted 2
3) Resident Evil 5
Honorable Mentions- Heavy Rain and Alan Wake: I haven't seen much of either other then a couple small gameplay snippets and a lot of pictures. I've seen a bit more on Heavy Rain and if they continue what their doing, that could easily take any of the top 3 spots. Alan Wake looked fantastic.....2 years ago. lol I haven;t really seen or heard anything on it since last year so I really hope that game is able to deliver the goods as Remedy is a great developer.

Those ARE in-game and off-engine...capcom don't touch up there games or use anything but in-game gameplay shots. You want gameplay?
The game looks this good...yes the shots do have added AA and better color as most PR shots (since they're still screens)...but the game's DETAIL and overall looks are just as good, atleast on MY Full HD 1080p set.
Because I call you on the images I'm a "hater"? Post those other images where the HUD is on-screen. THOSE are the real ones. And it definitely still looks good, I'm not debating that.LightReflection
Fine.
What piss me off about these DEMO shots is the lack of color, When i play the demo, it looks more vibrant and the details stick out more. Its why i don't use them.
i had the chance to see/play a bit the RE5 demo and it really looks great.... infact i take back what i said that the pictures might be touched up to look sharper... the game looks sharp and even in the darker areas it still has vibrant colours on certain objects and the lighting plays a significant role in the overall look of the game... however i wouldnt exclude the possibility of Uncharted 2 looking better than RE5... if ND are truly utilising more of the PS3's capabilities surely the sequel will look better than Uncharted...
I am just happy that as an owner of both 360 & PS3 i'll get to enjoy many great games which will also be visually impressive..
Sorry, I don't consider it denied. I just consider it completely idiotic. I'm not asking for evidence. All I ask for is a little common sense. A little bit of unbiased discussion. You can quote Nietzsche and other schools of philosophy, but when the PS3's...... "dignity" is involved.
This isn't about the PS3's dignity. I liked Uncharted. I thought it was an impressive evolution of multiple genres with a healthy degree of originality. I felt that the cover system's interaction with the rest of the game's qualities was apart of that originality and that Gears is not at all similar to it; same option but a distinctly different feel and look. Therefore, I am defending what I felt was a unique quality about the game.
And if anything, I would've used a Rand quote from the Fountainhead in this topic.
Should I start acting like a rabid lemming right now and pass that off as nothing really simple? Or should I be an open-minded person and say to myself, "Hey, it's normal. Influence is a part of the creative process."
That all depends on whether or not you felt the game was truly similar to a previous one. It just so happens that I find the idea that Uncharted was derivative of Gears to be ludicrous and so here we are.
If someone does something right and makes it popular, everyone else will soon follow. If you really want I can give you detailed explanations from written literature, music, and film. Take my word for it, then you'd have to agree that the video game industry works the exact same way.
You're treating this like it's an exact science when it's really more indicative of a blanket statement. In fact, MGS2 destroys your argument.
Kill.switch wasn't critically acclaimed nor commercially successful. As for Time Crisis: you're going to tell me that after over a decade of being a popular arcade title (has decreased in popularity since last generation), Naughty Dog decided to finally get inspiration from the series and amazingly ended up with a system which was strikingly similar to Gears of War?So there are two trains of thought here:
- Uncharted, coming out a year after Gears of War, was inspired by its slick combat mechanic and swiftly applied it to the game.
- Uncharted, coming out a year after Gears of War, was inspired by the obscure kill.switch and the Time Crisis series of "cover" gameplay, and ended up with something achingly similar to Gears of War.FrozenLiquid
"Strikingly similar?" "Achingly similar?" When did you develop a penchant for weasal words?
They both have character models that take cover. There's nothing about that quality that compels the use of such dramatic intesifiers.
I wouldn't even bother mentioning Time Crisis or Kill Switch as inspirations. Pointing out that they employeed a cover system before Gears or Uncharted is not the same as saying they inspired either of those games. For me, it's just a more convenient way of making Uncharted detractors look foolish for thinking Gears invented something unique, which deludes them into thinking that any game that uses a cover system post-Gears must have been "inspired" by it.
Neither of your options are acceptable or even reasonable assumptions--at least not to me. It's much more appropriate to assume that Naughty Dawg applied their own unique interpretation to the third person shooter genre that just so happened to involve taking cover. You point out yourself that Epic was apparently willing to emulate Uncharted somewhat because it had unique features going for it. That would seem to undermine the idea that Gears was "achingly" or "strikingly" similar to Uncharted in the first place.
Not really, because if he did want to call Uncharted a rip then he forgot to mention Tomb RaiderFrozenLiquid
Are you honestly going to compare the feel of Uncharted to all the past Tomb Raider games?
Still, I'm not going to bet my life on the fact that it wasn't inspired by Gears. I'd bet my future daughter that it was, however. And I'll love my daughter, very, very much.FrozenLiquid
Unfortunately, I'm not in the market for children. They don't make good currency...At least not in the US.
And shame on you for peeking. The sex is supposed to be a surprise.

That's not a bad thing though... obviously means the game will look great.untill we see proper Uncharted 2 screens and HD ones....RE5 is king. Uncharted 2 will look amazing, but Saying RE5 won't look as good as uncharted just sounds silly. From what I see in these scans, RE5 still looks better. Not to take anything away from Uncharted 2, because it still looks nice, but just not on the same level as RE5, methinks. Then again, Killzone 2 has 'em all beat.
Eyezonmii
Actually Killzone 2 is currently king. RE5 looks great, but most of it is in the character models. I'm not sure if you only own one console or something, but we've already seen gfx as good as RE5 before. And most of your screen shots were not gameplay by the way.... Checkout this vid, and you'll see how the enviorments of RE5 look washed out compared to MGS4 or Uncharted. At best, it graphically looks pretty similar to MGS4... without the impressive scale & attention to detail that MGS4's environments had. So while the game looks great, doesn't really look like anything we haven't seen before.
Now I think the same thing could likely be said for Uncharted 2... it does look pretty close to the first one after all. But there is no other game this gen that boasts the amount of detail and vibrancy that Uncharted's latest screens boast. Most games LOSE a lot of detail when the camera is pulled back... even from these first screens, you can see that Uncharted 2 packs a high level of detail and polish consistently... and it clearly has more detail onscreen at any one time than RE5.
Nobody cares if it's exclusive or not... if it looked better, it'd look better, period. It simply does not. I don't think anyone is arguing that RE5's graphics suck or anything. But for ppl to argue that RE5's graphics are a contender for console king is somewhat ludicrous considering that we've already seen gfx that look that good before. I think it looks better in motion than it does in the vids.... but for the most part MGS4 still looks better than the portions in the demo. Although there's something about the character models I like better in RE5.Hmm, finally we can agree, Eyezonmii. :P Feels good. :D
Anyways, RE5 is getting trashed because it's not exclusive, and fanboys from both sides want to be able to 1UP each other with "mine is better than yours". And it's not as fun for them, and they can't brag, if it's multiplat.
BioShockOwnz
If anything, it's lems that think they have to have a game that looks better than PS3 exclusives on their system... cows don't miss out either way.
I wish people would stop posting the same god damn bullshot RE5 images in every thread, it's getting pretty annoying. Anyway, I've no doubt Uncharted 2 will be as great or greater than its predecessor.LightReflection
Yea, I know... I've played the demo, and we should really bring this back to reality... the game looks great, but this is actually what the gameplay looks like in real life. If you're a cow and you've played MGS4 or Uncharted, you're honestly not missing anything graphically...Honestly, I think Gears 2 looks better than RE5. Lol, that's why I don't understand lems mad scrambling to come up with something to compete with KZ2, Uncharted 2, etc...

I own all systems, Hale. There is not one game out right now that tops RE5's visuals. KZ2 will be the best of '09, most likely, but RE5 tops everything out now. Even the current consoles graphics king, Gears 2.BioShockOwnzI don't own a Wii, but I do own both a 360 and a PS3... and NO, RE5 does not top Gears 2 or MGS4. Gears 2 I can agree with. Uncharted, MGS4, & Gears 2 are the best looking games out and I have a hard time picking a best looking game b/w the three b/c they each do things better that the other two do not. While RE5 could easily fit in the top 5 some where, it clearly doesn't knock any of those titles out.

Dude, what are you talking about??? All I mentioned was PS3 games? I named two PS3 & one 360... so you're not really making much sense. And why don't you point out exactly where in my post that I argued with you on Gears 2. If you honestly want to contend that there are not aspects of Uncharted or MGS4 or Gears 2 that outshine aspects of one of the others, you cannot be taken seriously as a manticore... simple. I've voted for both Gears 2 and Uncharted in some of the polls on this forum. And I'd argue that either of them still look better than MGS4 in overall consistency... But when it comes to picking b/w the three, it really comes down to gamer preference and I have never argued with anyone on any of those games. However, your argument for RE5 is just silly. The only reason the detail in the characters even look as good is b/c they take up most of the screen real estate... the pov is so constrained. And that's cool, it fits the game... but it sure would have been more impressive if it came out a year ago... not so much these days.
And you post proof that you own a single system, lol. Are you a child? I don't believe that RE5 looks better (and neither do the majority of gamers in SW by the way) and so now I don't have a 360? Get a life. Uncharted, MGS4, & Gears 2 all look better than RE5 whether you want to live in your world of denial or not... thankfully we have all been blessed with eyes to see for ourselves and don't have to take your word for it buddy.;)

You actually believe that graphics can be properly judged based on a poll? I seem to recall a Wii poster making a poll comparing Conduit to Halo. Considering it was on the Wii board, which one do you think got the most votes?
That game's looking pretty sharp. Lets hope they throw in some multiplayer. That would make it AAAPanther501This game doesn't need multiplayer to make it AAA, its' fine being single player only. Too many games these days throw in multiplayer to give a bullet point on the box, it doesn't need it. This is a story driven action adventure game. Think Tomb raider meets indiana jones meets gears of war cover system meets movie quailty acting and animation = uncharted, so you know uncharted 2 is going to be more of that but throw some snake or sam fisher type stealth into the game add some different locations and you have a great game. I just can't wait for this game, and could care less about multiplayer! too many games have multiplayer, I don't need more.

The first game was a AAA title w/o online but some online co-op would definitely fit the game nicely. it would be awesome, throw in some cool hand to hand action along with solid gunplay, jumping and sliding into cover with a buddy while being pinned. Thats badass right there. We already have Resident evil 5 for co-op we don't need more co-op like that, it's more of the same. I would rather have a excellent polished single player game to be honest then multiplayer in any form. There are so many multiplayer and mp only games out there that I have in my library all ready that don't get played! I miss the days when mp wasn't that important to people.

Ah, good old Pariah.
You're wrong. Plain and simple. It's not "character models and cover".
The cover system is nothing short of identical. The ammo/weapons management is also "strikingly similar", for that matter. It's not about there being a cover system or not. It's about execution.
The cover system uses the exact same configuration of one button to enter/exit cover. Cover exit is contextual through icons depicting the action to be taken. Same main actions are possible. The feel is well beyond similar. Anyone who has played Gears will be able to use Uncharted's cover system with no need for adjustment. Can't say that for Kill.switch/Time Crisis/GRAW/Whatever players.
Weapons management is based on the four main digital pad directions, with one spot dedicated to grenades. Same inventory management system, same grenade-throwing mechanic (which is quite uncommon in showing you the expected trajectory, btw). The difference is that Uncharted has a redundant "reload" button because it doesn't differentiate between an assault/long weapon and sidearm, like Gears does.
Your use of a straw man to argue against something nobody is saying doesn't make you win the argument, you know?

Well, Gears wasn't the first to have that type of weapon's management system either. The point is that anyone who plays both games can testify that they are two totally different experiences. Of course games are going to share similar methods or ideas, but playing one does not feel like playing the other. I have to agree on the grenade trajectory, I cannot remember seeing that in any other game before Gears. But everything else... these games were being developed around the same time & it is a fact that Uncharted had a cover mechanic before Gears was released. How much they were inspired by Gears or any other game is really irrelevant... b/c both games have borrowed from games to come before them as well as introduced new twists on old gameplay mechanics.[QUOTE="BioShockOwnz"]Most people here have a set of eyeballs. The point here is that the poll is not a discussion. It's just another example of an ass-backwards democracy (like all democracies). Obama danced a jig for whatever demographic he could and created a bias for his image that defied actual politics. Likewise, all polls here suffer a dramatic bias from people who are more concerned with seeing their favored game/console win a vote that actually giving an honest answer.
