More Leaked Star Wars: First Assault Images Emerge

Three new screenshots from rumored downloadable multiplayer shooter surface showing Cloud City and Tatooine.

Kotaku has obtained a batch of new screenshots from the rumored Star Wars: First Assault. The three new images show off locations like Cloud City and Tatooine, with squads of stormtroopers and rebels battling each other.

Image credit: Kotaku A source told Kotaku yesterday that Star Wars: First Assault is a downloadable multiplayer shooter that was originally pegged to be released this spring, but is now in limbo following Disney's high-profile acquisition of the Star Wars franchise last year.

LucasArts reportedly suspended all hiring and game announcements when it originally learned of Disney's intention to buy the Star Wars brand.

First Assault is also reportedly "step zero" to Star Wars: Battlefront III, a test of sorts for Star Wars shooter games that run on the Unreal Engine. If the game is successful, it could lead to the release of the long-in-development--and heavily debated--Battlefront III.

I heard an unpleasant rumor that Disney is considering cancelling 1313 because it's M-rated and it's set in the 20 year gap between episodes 3 and 4. That 20 year gap is what Lucas originally planned on setting the bulk of future Star Wars projects in, however since Disney is making episodes 7, 8, and 9, they want their new products to focus on the new trilogy, taking place 20-30 years after Return of the Jedi.

I really hope they are not that narrow-minded when it comes to the future of the franchise. The good news though, is they are considering spinoff movies about Boba Fett, young Han Solo and other characters, and the Han Solo movie in particular would have to be set in the 20 year gap between III and IV. Hopefully that means that the rumor is false, although it is still worrysome that Lucas Arts has suspended all their current projects.

All I want is to ride in an imperial At-AT Walker in a multiplayer match against 128 players. I still  can't believe there hasn't been a battlefield like star wars game where you fly in x-wing  and tie fighter AT-AT walker among other stuff. This is literally a next gen game that should be made.

I would much rather a single-player FPS, but I guess this is cheaper and easier for them to commit to.

I would play this for a couple weeks if it was good.

Not for me. MP wise. I'm all for SW games, just not online stuff. Give me Kotor III or another like it and you can set up automatic withdrawals from my account.

Anyway, I'd be down for a new Star Wars shooter.

BFIII needs to happen.

Only quip about the game is that the Tatooine level looks like EVERY GODDAMN SHOOTER SET IN THE DESERT. Other than that looking good.

A new FPS Star Wars game is good. It's been a long time since one of those came out, but reading about how disney wants to go the mobile route makes me sad. I want my new Dark Forces/Jedi Knight, X-Wing/Tie Fighter, Rogue Squadron, KOTOR, and Republic Commando so badly! :cry:

I want a next gen SW Battlefront 3 game with huge environments, tons of players, vehicles, etc. MAKE IT HAPPEN and it will sell millions :evil:
