Which one seems to lean more towards metal and less toward rock?  I'm inclined to pick GHIII.

Both games are full of talentless hacks that play simple music so it doesn't matter.

I was kind of hoping to see some Hardcore bands on the two games like Job for a Cowboy, ThrowDown, The Black Dalia murder etc and maybe some experimental bands like Thrice but it is not going to happen.

Well you would expect a game called Guitar Hero: 3 Legends of Rock to have less metal, but I have no idea actually.

I think Rock Band is gonna be more mainstream, since they're mega advertising some really poppy bands.

Agreed.
Nice avatar by the way.  How cool would it be to get an Iced Earth tune in one of these games?

There's about as many similarities between metal and emo as metal and country.  Not even CLOSE to being the same thing.  Sorry.

Difficult to explain without hearing actual examples. Emo is stuff like Simple Plan, Good Charlette (sp???lol), Dashboard, anything really "teen" and urban, and the music is really, really simple. Whereas metal has some pretty complex structures, sing more about death and pain as a reverence than as a bad thing, and is generally more awesome. Go listen to some Simple Plan on iTunes, then listen to In Flames, and tell me there isn't a difference.

If I were to compare GH3 and Rock Band but just as guitar vs. guitar, I'd say GH3.
GH3's interface is a lot better than Rock Band's.

But the idea of having an entire band play and doing so online makes RB look incredible.
Then again you'd have to buy all the instruments for it... Or pick and hope your friends or online players have the others...

Well there's your problem right there. If you don't pay attention to the actual music, but just the vocals, you won't see much of a difference between the two ****, except for hair and makeup. Although I'd argue that the Metal vocal ****is more guttaral and rough, where the emo ****is more whiny.

That's right.  If we're just looking at the vocals, I'd agree that emo's are typically whiny.  I'd like to expand your description of Metal's vocal style though.  Since metal seems to have the most sub-genres of any music, you will find a ton of different vocal styles ranging from that rough, gutteral style that's often found in death metal, to classic sounding vocals like a Bruce Dickinson would sing.  In fact, I would argue that some metal singers (i.e. Halford or Dickinson) are some of the most talented and versitile vocalists in music.  The same could not be said of any singer of emo music.

Absolutely, completely and utterly wrong in every single word. Simple Plan, Good Charlotte and Dashboard Confessional are pop-rock. Simple music.

Emo music is far different. It general, it is a mixture of punk (once again, Simple Plan and Good Charlotte are not punk as people think) and different genres such as death metal and thrash metal. That doesn't mean it's Cannibal Corpse, but it's loud, fast and generally odd music. Try some real emo bands:

I Wrote Haikus About Cannibalism In Your Yearbook
Fugazi
Circle Takes The Square
Please Inform The Captain This Is A Hijack

Emo really ruined a lot.
Nowadays you can't say or sing a thing thats a little emotional or you'll be called an emo.
Back in the day it was well respected for singing something very personal.
Well, times change I guess...

Summed up my feelings completely. Same thing with punk. Pop-rock gets passed off as punk because it's "rebelious".

I like Metal but I don't like the gutteral style of singing so I don't listen to it I listen to more of bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Preist, Dio (since Dio is my favorite Vocalist) I like that type of Metal alot but I also like Classic Rock.

You should try some power metal. Power metal is heavy music but with clean vocals.

What is so funny listen to Iron Maiden's music you will find really intricate (spelling?)guitar playing, and phenomonal (spelling?)Vocal range, alot of other Metal Bands have that your just classifying (spelling?) all Metal under the same classification of what you think Metal is and not using an open mind to know that there are alot of different Sub-Genres of Metal that aren't all gutteral vocals and lyrics about Death (I don't even like that type of Metal, but i like other sub-genres of Metal.)

Well, IM talking about you can't call metal emo, you just can't. That's NOT what it is.

Metal is high powered and loud, the kinda music to get you fired up. Emo does the exact opposite.

Simple: emo music is a form of punk music from the 90's. Pop rock and punk rock is these days labeled emo though it is the opposite of what actual emo music is.

wow, looks like i started a debate lol. i have no idea what anyones talking about, its all the same crap to me.---OkeyDokey---

Seems to me you have no idea what YOU'RE talking about.  You say metal and emo are the same, then when someone disagrees with you, you ask for an explanation.  An explanation is provided that clearly distinguishes the two and yet you say they're still the same.

This debate will go NOWHERE. Music has broken down into so many genres and sub-genres it's ridiculous. In the eighties, a band like Ratt or Poison was "Metal", not so much anymore. Being a horrible music snob, I could go on all day but in short, there's talent and no talent in EVERY style of music. The thing that gets me is when people throw every band into one clump and bash them for being "Talentless". The Human Abstract have so much talent, it's sickening. Yet, so does Josh Groban. All the labels now have led everyone to fall into one or the other, and EVERYONE misses out on amazing music because of it. To reply to the question, from what I've seen, GH III has WAY more "Metal".

No, not emo music. Metal. There is a difference.

It really gets to me that alot of people think I'm emo because I listen to heavy metal, death metal, or any kindof metal.

I don't have a stupid haircut, I don't cry for no reason, I actually have friends. I'm not bloody emo.

Sorry had to get that off my chest.

thats probably offensive to all the emo's in this thread.

People who label themselves falsely as emo and follow the general stereotype of emo. And to tell the truth, there aren't really many people who do that.

[QUOTE="---OkeyDokey---"] explain.crazymalicous

Why is this funny? Show me how Children of Bodom or Wintersun don't have musically complex songs. If Beethoven and Mozart were alive today, they'd make metal music.

emo is more of a darn style now than anything else. Emo music is stuff like hawthorne heights and good charlotte. As for metal, well thats completly diffrent....
