Before you read, if you have no intrest and believe GTA sucks, dont bother posting. Most of what is typed was taken from the gtaforums board along with some input of my own. Now, to Vice City (SPOILERS) :

Bum leaves Liberty with diamonds EVERYONE in Liberty City is fighting over. He goes to Vice City (fact), he opens gunshops (fact), we will take those gunshops and his money (not a fact, assumption) since Miami is about the Real Estate (fact) and Vice City is about building empires (fact) and there is a gun-delivery mechanic that needs to be "explained" in the next game to "make sense for being there" which is the bum (not fact, but come on, right?).

Here's another: The song Cry in Liberty Rock is used on the finale of Miami Vice, an episode called "DEFINITELY MIAMI"

And another: Weekend at Florians, the mission for Bernie, the name is based on Weekend At Bernies, a Miami based film.

Also, Remember when rockstar registered Bogota and Sin City?

Well, San Fransisco is the original City of Sin, and is also the city in GTA 1. Bogota is part of the map of Vice City that we never saw after GTA 1. BOTH of these names were registered RIGHT AFTER SA was released IF I recall correctly - which is precisely the time Rockstar claims they began work on IV. They have known it was LC/VC/SA from day one, they Knew IV would be a number, and they Knew they would need new names for Vice and San. We all must see it by now

Little Bogota is one part of the 4/5 of Vice City we never saw, only seeing the little teeny tiny top right corner in 2002.

Again, in Vice, it's only a small fraction of what was in GTA 1, which is also missing "Little Bogota", which rockstar registered when they started IV :o

And look, there's Little Bogota - the place they registered just after San Andreas came out, along with Sin City, the same time they claim they started work on IV.

Well, it may see bizarre but R* is good at dropping hints and making people speculate.

I've believed strongly for a very long time that it would be set in Vice City again. I will honestly be way more surprised if it's anywhere besides VC.

Vice City has the best atmosphere. They'd be fools not to go there again. Needs at least one radio station with all 80's music too.

Why so much hype over a new Vice City GTA?? It's not like it'd be the same as the original.

As spectacular as Vice City was/is, wouldn't you like to see a new city? I mean, yes, Liberty was great to revisit and loads of fun was had there, but let's get a new city.

The city doesn't make the game, it's the characters. If we could get another Tommy Vercetti and another Ken Rosenburg, what more could you really ask for?

Vice city is just nice. Liberty City is all dark and brown, Vice City is all sunny and has palm trees and is just cooler. Plus it would be 5 times the size of the last rendition.

well, no. If R* was to go back, it would be set in this decade so everything will be updated. Idk, I think personally a Vice City type of atmosphere with the engine R* uses, would be epic.

The only problem is see with this is that last time Vice City was set in the 80s. Which is part of what made it so interesting. If they do infact revisit Vice City i dont see them doing anything but another modern game(which im perfectly okay with). Since things like the internet, cell phones, etc were such vital game mechanics to making you feel like you were in a living city.

You're right, it could be better.

Seriously though, their choices for iconic American cities are quite limited. You have New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Miami, more or less. Places like Chicago might as well be anywhere.

America is a safe location because Brits will play games with American characters but Americans get all weird about playing as a Brit, so it rules out most other English-speaking countries.

I would love a GTA set in London, but that's one of the only cities I could see working. If you set it in say, Hong Kong or Japan, the language and cultural barrier would turn off a lot of people who just want to run over and shoot good ole fashioned Americans. Not saying this is how I feel, just how marketing is probably looking at it.

Suggestions?

To maximize the potential of their market, they need to set it in America. In America, the only cities that have enough personality and are iconic enough to base a game around are New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Miami. Other English-speaking countries have cities that include London, Dublin, Belfast, Edinburgh, Glascow, Sydney, Melbourne, maybe Johannesburg... I would be happy with a game set in London/Edinburgh/Dublin, all linked together like San Andreas was, but I know a lot of the North American audience is turned off by other countries.

Also, the Liberty City in GTA3 and the one in IV are extremely different from one another, as would the new Vice City be different from the original.

Unlikely. Rockstar were complaining that the 360 was limiting the size of GTA4 - at least that's what I heard here. It would be cool if they still went ahead and made the next one bigger, with the 360 version coming on 2 discs with an install option.

Chicago? Its iconic, it is a very diverse city in both culture and locations, it has lake michigan, and the list goes on and on.

On topic: I honestly wouldnt mind another vist to vice city, i enjoyed it better then liberty city from 3.

I don't know how I feel about this. For one, the 80's vibe fit in just as well, but with the story details and the bum it would have to be modern day. Just as well, Liberty City is much more central to the GTA games and I can understand why they would remake it, but areas like London and Anywhere City from GTA 2 could also be easily made and put into a game.

Regardless Rockstar makes gold about 98% of the time, so I trust their judgement and love the hints. I also heard that Packie went to Vice City at the end of TBoGT, but he could have also gone to Ireland (I'm just going by hearsay since I have yet to play it to completion).

I believe the Jet that's taking off at the end of BoGT says "UK" on it. Most likely Ireland.

Since they had an ingame ad that said "see you in Vice City" in GTA 3 it was clear that Rockstar loves to put in hints of the next games location in their games.

I'm tending to believe these rumors about GTA VC2.

They probably will also bring back the planes and return to the over the top crazyness of the older installments. They usually listen to the fans' complaints.

vice city was so good because of the 80s miami scarface era it captured so well. i dont see what appeal a modern vice city would offer.

id personally like to see a whole new twist on the gta theme, whether that means a new setting/culture such as asia or europe or a new premise such as playing as a different type of protagonist like a crooked cop or something. i think theyve exhausted the "go to this location, kill this guy/make a delivery/intercept a package etc" type formula and need some new ideas that hopefully a new setting/protagonist type would bring

As much as I would love for a new GTA installment taking place in Vice City, I hope to god they keep the 80's feel to it. Making it take place in modern times like GTA4 did would absolutely ruin the Vice City feel imo.

the criteria for the next GTA city are simple.

1. must be english speaking

2. must be in the modern age (1965+) no Weimar Berlin, sorry

3.must be in city at the center of a cultural shift. Vice City was about the growing miami drug culture (theme lifted from scarface but i dont care). San Andreas? The early nineties race clash as in Rodney King, the LA riots, and the rise of new school rap and gang culture. GTA4 is post 911 new york.

so,San Fran in the 60s is a good choice, or maybe post-Katrina New Orleans
