No he's got it right, except for the Oblivion being mediocre part. Morrowind however had way better looking towns/cities.

The only thing Oblivion did better was combat, aside from that Morrowind > All.

Oblivion did combat and color palette better than Morrowind but really that was it. Morrowind at first is very hard to get into if you're not used to older RPGs. The running speed is painful enough that I actually had to go with the +20 athletics birth-sign after playing more recent games.

Morrowind is a much more varied, deeper, game with more RPG elements, more factions, more quests, more weapons, more armors... just more of everything.

And the main quest is more entertaining. More intresting and better written. I even prefer the stat based combat in Morrowind to the button pressing in Oblivion.

The leveling system in Morrowing actually works... you get stonger by exploring and questing, no horrible enemy auto leveling to make your character progression pointless.

Its just a better game in almost every aspect but graphics... but if your PC can handle it, the Morrowind Graphics Extender fixs that.

The horrible dice-based combat prevents me from going back to Morrowind, although by now there may be some mod for that. Oblivion was mediocre overall but Fallout 3 improved on it so I'll be interested to see whether Skyrim takes it even further.

I think morrowind was more interesting because of the setting and actually having different areas,

Oblivion had better gameplay, no more epic battles with f'ing mice

both suffered horribly from balance issues and a terrible leveling system...

Morrowind is one of the best games I've ever played, i don't know how many hours i spent on it but it is probably 200+. Oblivion was a good game but the stupid things like level scaling, invincible allies/important characters made it less engaging than Morrowind. I got about 80 hours on it but after that I haven't touched it where I have gone back to Morrowind on several occasions.

oblivion has some playability refinements (the combat isnt all a roll of the dice, for example), but i prefer morrowind a little. morrowind's quests tend to have more room to find unique solutions. in oblivion, theres more often a "right way" to solve the quest that bethesda leads you towards. a huge variety of dynamic quests isnt the strong point of either game, but i still lean more towards morrowind.

I liked Morrowind because it was freaking massive...not to mention the different cultures you run into, and the huge change of scenery at different areas of the map (Oblivion more or less looked the same, no matter where you went...aside from the Shivering Isles). The only thing I didn't like about Morrowind was that you're pretty much left in the dark when it comes down to where to go...I haven't played the game in eons, but if I recall, I remember having a dozen quests that were left unfinished because I had no clue where the hell to go :P. Oblivion eased a lot of problems Morrowind had (including the combat...which was pretty damn clunky, and having a more streamlined approach). IMO, Morrowind just felt more free. I mean, you could do away with quests and still have literally a dozen things to do in that game (my personal favorite was shoplifting, dumping the goods somewhere in the forest, doing the time, then getting out and collecting them .).

Morrowind seemed larger because it was heavily restrictive and you moved at a snails pace whereas in Oblivion you move at stupidly high speeds with even mediocre athletic ability. Shivering isle uses the same map design ideals as Morrowind and it seems tiny because of the movement speed. Once you get boots of blinding speed and either mod or glitch them to not blind you Morrowind is pretty obviously tiny as well.

Really? It certainly felt larger anyways. Maybe because of the lack of horses and universal fast travel. Plus the landscape seemed much more populated with small villages and the like. Not just the big cities.

Morrowind is a better rpg. Oblivion is an action/adventure game with some rpg elements (still a good game though).

Also, mods can easily improve graphics, animation, and combat in Morrowind to improve the experience.

This, oblivion was good but as a person who spent countless hours on oblivion and morrownd the oblivion world seemed too plain. A lot of the terrain was recycled and so were the caves/dungeons in oblivion, while morrowind on the other hand was way more unique in how the world was structured and not so recycled. I just hated how slow i ran in the beginning of morrowind

I didn't really like either. I think most improvements in Oblivion were a given considering it's a much newer game, but ageless stuff like the gameworld were better in Morrowind, just a lot more interesting with a lot more variety.

All the Elder Scrolls games are awesome, I not really a fan of dice roll combat in real time tho so Oblivion is the best one for me.

Morrowind had much more to do, much more depth, a much better setting, and overall I'd just say that it was a much better game than Oblivion. Oblivion looked nicer, though. If they hadn't tried to dumb things down so heavily, it might have been almost as good as Morrowind.

Only when Oblivion has been modded.

Also, for anyone who claims Morrowind is better because of its RPG elements and depth needs to play Daggerfall. Morrowind is a linear action game compared to Daggerfall.

Can't wait to play Daggerfall wen the DaggerXL port is completed. It's still a long wile before its going to be completed, but damn the wait is worth it. Hope they reach beta soon.

I hate Oblivion. I wish I could trade in my copy but i've got the pc version, so yea. Morrowind was vastly superior. I loved exploring the wastelands, i loved the atmosphere and although the combat was a little hard to get into at the begginning, it grew on me. I prefer it over Oblivions combat. I'm being a little unfair on Oblivion because im talking about Vanilla Oblivion. With mods like OOO and Franscecos (sp?) it made the game enjoyable. But it still lacked all the other aspects which made Morrowind awesome.

O_O

I already have a free bootable version of the game but this is considerably more interesting (if by "modern" they mean making the controls less clunky). I'm actually kind of glad Bethesda released the game for free... now everyone can actually experience how far the series fell with Morrowind. But then again, it has been changed completely with Oblivion and subsequently Skyrim. I personally enjoy it more as an action-adventure, and Daggerfall as the RPG.

Yeah, though that is true, and I agree, I also feel that part of the reason it felt large was the ridiculously slow walking and running speed..

I have to agree TC...I have tried playing Morrowind a few times and never got past 10 minutes of play...I get tired of being chased by a woman with a spoon that kills me..EVEN when Im hitting her with a sword. Just plain ignorant game play.

Oblivion is the 1st game of that type Ive ever played, beat and put in 400ish hours...YES its repetitive, and sometimes you get lost on what you are supposed to do..BUT miles better in every way then Morrowind.

 There can never be "good old days of Oblivion". Skyrim is going to take everything Oblivion did well and do it 10x better. There will still be the Morrowind elitists down the road, but most people will either stick it out with the first three, or embrace the change. I will probably do both... >_> I've been meaning to get into Morrowind, and this Oblivion-engine mod/port will probably help. I just need a new computer now... :(

You can check more here (plus a long video starting from the dungeon to the outside world, showing a lot of stuff). I think its ben months since i heard about it, and i've ben keeping a open eye out for it waiting for them to finish it. There's so much potential with it, i hope to God they don't drop it, because i really have ben in the mood to play Daggerfall for a wile now, but i hate Dosbox.

You cannot.. be serious. Elder Scrolls = PC, the mods are as important to the game as the game itself. (look at modded Morrowind, ageless beauty because of the mods)

The core game is whats being talked about. Why bring up mods and added on mess? IF a game is good..its good regardless of platform. Morrowind stinks...Oblivion is better..thats called opinion.

I enjoy the game. I'm sure there's tons of great mods for those who like em, I'm grand with playing it on my Xbox tho.
