Mortal Kombat 9 looks awesome!

It's exaclty how I would have imagined the game should be made in 3D when everyone started trying to remake all the great games from the 2D era on these new 3D capable systems (from the PS/N64 onwards).

For years I've wondered why developers are forcing all these truly great and fully realised 2D games, in terms of well balanced and fun gameplay and control, into more complicated 3D when the 2D gameplay is actually superior for certain types of games, because you don't have to worry about navigating a 3D world with a 3D camera and all the added control complexity that usually comes with that, so it's great to see developers finally understanding that you don't to have to force a game into full 3D gameplay just to bring it into the modern era of gaming.

It's the same thing with the revival of all these great 2D platform games that I'm actually excited about again, like Donkey Kong Country Returns for example, which looks awesome, and beat em ups like Street Fighter IV.

Some games make sense in full 3D, like racing games and FPS games for example, but other genres like platformers, beat em ups and horizontal/vertical scrolling shoot em ups have always just felt more intuitive and been more fun on a 2D plane with more refined 2D controls imo.

I mean, imagine an entire 2.5D Mario platformer with visuals up to the standard of the 2.5D levels in SMG2 or Donkey Kong Country Returns, rather than the clearly half assed New Super Mario Bros Wii (and it's obvious it was half assed when you see the full 2.5D glory of the 2.5D levels in SMG2 or a game like Donkey Kong Country returns)...

That's how I have always wanted a new Mario platform game to look and play ever since we were first introduced to 3D graphics all those years ago, and that goes for many other great 2D genres too, and it's nice to see we are slowly getting back to that point of truly solid and refined 2D control and gameplay but with current-gen 3D graphics, finally.

I hope more developers are working on "2.5" games for the future.

Man this game looks to totally ressurect the series for me.

While I have played all the MK games at least a tiny bit (only played DC once...) the series really dropped off for me after 3.

This game looks to however be the best in the series which is totally surprising for me.

Yep, it's looking great so far, almost a day one buy for me, and should be better than past 3D games too, plus I agree that MK4 should had been like that, to me I didn't like that game a whole lot either.

One of the games I am looking forward to the most no doubt! And it has a lot to compete with, so that is saying a lot. I will definitely be picking it up, depending when it is released, on day one.

It's nice to see all the love for MK9.

I guess when developers actually get it right they do in fact also get the love they deserve.

If any developers out there are maybe wondering why a game based on a franchise they re-made/updated recently didn't get that much love then I'd suggest they look at whether the game actually delivered on what the fans really wanted or instead went off on a slight tangent that wasn't quite what the fans wanted e.g. it didn't really capture the ture spirit and design of the previous/original versions and upgrade them only where necessary.

I can think of so many examples where the developer just didn't get it. The new Goldeneye for example, which despite looking like an ok FPS for Wii in it's own right, clearly imo doesn't quite do what the fans wanted from it, as a "re-imagining" of the original Goldeneye game, and I get a feeling even at this early stage that it's not going to live up to the hype. I can see in my head exactly how a new Goldeneye game should be done but unfortunately the developers of the game can't see inside my head.

Ah well, at least MK9 is one re-imagining/updated/sequel that appears to have got it pretty much spot on from what I can see.

I'm not really a fan of fighting games and I've never bought a Mortal Kombat game but this one looks freaking awesome!

It does look great, but does it do anything new? The MK franchise lost it's luster after awhile for me.

I don't really see how NSMBWii would have been improved with this level of detail.

Looks like the best Mortal Kombat since 3 / Trilogy / Ultimate. :)
