beat me to it
Fights with a lightsaber and pulls off wrestling moves, I mean cmon.
Win.
New IPs only, otherwise solid snake would dominate the competition.
HoldThePhone
Grand Theft Auto and Final Fantasy aren't new IPs.
Baldur, from Too Human.
Honestly, if this is done right, he's going to be effin' magnificent.
You guys seriously don't know the potential of gods and their personal conflicts. And I'm not talking God of War. That was child's play.
That guy from mass Effect could be mebbe, since Bioware games usually give you a load of character development paths.
What about Altair from Assassin's Creed aswell?
EDIT: I also agree with the people who have mentioned the guy from The Witcher, and the Turok guy.

Dear Lord....
Why?
I bet he's going to be as cookie cutter as they come. Jack Carver was, and no amount of plot twists in Far Cry could hide it.
Very few Master Chiefs come around, game, movie, or book. Even then, he's given a backstory and anyone who had any sense of creativity could realize why he is what he is now (in the games).
this femme fatale is supposed to destroy mankind in the mythos of XIII
doesnt get more badass than that
Filonus
Apart from the countless other busty heroines who've saved the world?
I admit though, Final Fantasy characters are pretty well rounded (development-wise).
Honestly, look to Ripley of the Alien quadrilogy to see a true badass heroine. Or Trinity of the Matrix trilogy.

whatabout all the Stupendously muscular guys who've saved the world. it's boring seeing guys do it all the time. I think the dude in crysis needs to stop the steroid abuse man lol
have you SEEN this trailer? Badass personified

Well, I guess we won't know until Crysis is out, but I wouldn't really be calling the Master Chief's presentation in the games as deep or even not generic.
Might come across that way in books and other media, but a novel can make even Spongebob seem insightful.

Yeah muscular guys with no personality are pretty much boring, unless they have damn good character development.
But there are just as many perfectly proportioned heriones who flaunt the boxart of games and do the whole "I'm gonna kick your as$!" thing in their own generic way which makes you wanna marry them.
Lara Croft became one of them. Honestly, she's kick ass, but she was more kick ass before she became just t its on a stick. She had one sassy personality, and it's emphasized more in Tomb Raider: Legend (although she's become more ofa wise crack in it).
3 characters are from ps3 titles :P
however I think lightning is the most badass because ofhow she fights with the same facial expression. That's evidence on that she has fought alot of times and getting accustomed to fighting,

Do I really have to bring up the Grand List of Sci Fi cliches, because I'm sick of hearing the whole "Halo is so generic" crap from people who know nothing about it.
I'm so sorry Halo doesn't spoon feed you Master Chief's personality in the game. Personally, I think it's for the best. I'm not so sure I'd buy it if he said in his deep, manly voice "I'm scared" every time he goes toe-to-toe with an Elite. Or if he thought aloud when he first encountered the Flood, rather than stepping back in fear like he did in that cutscene. Jeez if people did more than play games at their leisure, maybe they could find out that Master Chief hasn't been the same since losing all his Spartans for the second time. Including someone that's very important to him.
The Halo bible was written up before Halo was made. They chose a certain story arc for the games to take place in, which unfortunately for many, is the only bit they'll see of Halo. And quite frankly, after all the sh*t Spartan IIs have been through (even moreso than the Spartan IIIs), I don't blame the Chief for being that way. It's bang on what many would be like. Maybe in the films they'll exaggerate the Chief and make him all emo and depressed likein Spiderman 3just for those who don't like to think what the context of the situation is.

I'd rather you didn't, but if it helps you feel your point is better, do so. I'm not saying Halo is generic, in my opinion the story isn't. I'm not even saying characters in Halo are generic, in fact I think the Arbiter is a great character. I just think the Master Chief is a cliche and is frankly, beyond a few one liners, represented very 1 dimensionally in the series.

I'm sorry too, it detracts from the game. And since when did I ask for him to be emasculated? You don't need to hover between completely generic killing machine and wuss. Displaying emotion or character doesn't meaning that he should be afraid or sensitive, it's asking for some depth to the character.
And the fact that he's last of the Spartans doesn't even come across in the games, let alone his reaction to it. Yes, it might be better in other mediums, and it might even make him into a well rounded character, but it certainly doesn't make him anymore endearing in the games. As I've said, a novel make make any character seem insightful. This thread isn't about who can seem like the best character in a novel (in that case, a Blizzard character like Ilidan or something would take it anyway), it's about best in a game. The Master Chief does not represent well in Halo CE or Halo 2 as a deep and well rounded character.
And even if it was broatched more fully in the games, the theme of being the last of one's kind is an extremely generic element to sci-fi anyway; Superman, Red Dwarf, Doctor Who, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy all deal with elements of being alone of your species or group in the universe. Doesn't mean because the Master Chief goes into it in the books he's suddenly unique and a tour de force of the genre.

Well,we can stop talking there mate because Master Chief is not the last Spartan in the universe. Far from it. Far, far from it. And when you talk about being generic, you have to look beyond the franchises which are relatively mainstream, and that did it right, into the amateur stories posted around the internet which are barely interesting. Because generic killing machines are hardly touched in the sci fi universe.
And The Arbiter? Man, that character needs more polish than Halo's storytelling itself. He's got potential, but he's not there.
In any case I'm done talking. Halo is a franchise beyond just being a video game franchise. It's like trying to talk about Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars games.

Great, you agree with me. He might be deep in other mediums, but he sucks in the games.

Guess I probably did.
Yeah I've written a whole damn hardcover exercise book on Halo, and the Master Chief takes up a few good pages. Just notes in case the Halo movie stays up in the clouds forever.
I'm guessing from cutting my whole interpretation of a movie in my head, it'd be hard in the game. Half of his character development can't be emulated in it. You're right.
Teh Crysis dude
But, I'd also vote for Niko Belic. I still don't get it why did those idiots named Niko "Bellic", with two "L"s. If they researched more for slavenic names, they'd know that
a) Niko Bellic aint a Russian name
b) You don't spell Bellic with two fukin Ls
[QUOTE="AdrianWerner"]Geralt from Witcher easily.
He is the most badass character ever in fantasy literature and from what I've seen he retains it all in his first videogame.
dreman999
DAMN!!!! He got my vote. He looks so bad ass in that pic!!!
I really can't wait for this game. :) The more I read, the more excited I become.

You shouldnt have to read books to get the full just fo characters, thats a silly arguement, the Warcraft universe pulled it off well enough ingame.
I voted Other.
I have to say Altair from Assassin's Creed is the best badass on the up and comers.
I mean, he's an Assassin. Can't get any more badass than that.
Sagacious_Tien
Agreed:D
[QUOTE="nw030"][QUOTE="Jockss2"]uhh the assassin from assassin's creed kills everybody on that list...the ps3 version of him at leastJuggernaut140
why only ps3 version?
looks like someone's still pissed off about losing an exclusive.
no the ps3 assassin is more badass because the graphics will be better and if they make the 360 guy look anywhere close to the ps3 one the 360 will break...like usual..
Baldur from Too Humandeathtrap90
I would have said him, but come on, he's the god of Joy and Beer.
Not exactly Badass material, but I'll see what Silicon Knights comes up with
