THere was awful lot of them.
Jericho
Lair
Blue Dragon
Hellgate
But two that hurt me the most we
COmbat Mission: Shockforce.
Previous CMs were absolute masterpieces (both CM1 and 2 got 9.1 here, imagine that...a low budget indie wargame). And SHockforce had a lot of potential. But they delivered complete mess. Bugs everywhere, AI doesn't work, physics are bollocks, interface is a nightmare etc etc etc. Sure, there is a marvelous game somewhere there. But I doubt we'll see more of it without another year of heavy patchig :(
Bioshock
I was expecting next-gen SystemShock2. What I got was silly linear Doom3 clone. Even the story was just pathetic (bassicaly a rewrite of SS2)

I was expecting bioshock to be a very simplfies and FPSied form of ss2 and even then i was dissapointed
It was in no way a bad game, but I thought God of War 2 wasn't up to the level of the first one.Sir-Marwin105I felt that way, too. Everybody else thought it was great, but for some reason, I just didn't like God of War 2 nearly as much as the first one.
Lair - Overhyped; controls were a mess; gameplay was boring.
Halo 3 - Story was too obvious; friendly A.I. was worse than Halo 2's.
I can't say Halo 3 was overrated but I was disappointed in the story since I was expecting a lot from it.
Half-Life 2: Episode 2 in my own personal experience. I'm not kidding. It looked better in the videos: more dynamic and emergent gameplay was what came off to me. Instead I get a linear path with a final battle not as epic as I'd been led to believe. I still love it, but it seems it was limited with consoles in mind, and didn't deliver on all fronts.Mordred19
I love HL2: EP2 but I sort of agree with you there except for the ending (unless you were talking about the helicopter part).
i actually rented Lair just for the hell of it recently, started playing and figured while playing the first level "if i win i win... if i lose, then i'm not touching this game again"... got to the 5th or 6th level, and died on a crappy level, my conclusion was that Lair was a neat concept executed incredibly poorly... i mean, a lot of great games are low concept, so to say "oh, flying around blowing stuff up, that won't make a good game" is false, but usually something like that has to be executed so well that it's worth it to just fly around blowing stuff up... i mean, when your game is easily pwned by Jericho it's pretty sad, no? Lair is game that felt like one of those bargain bin games that are made for $5 ala Armored Core (except Armored Core seems like first class gaming compared to Lair)... the graphics suck, the gameplay is so incredibly mediocre... i mean seriously, anybody saying Uncharted is the next Lair needs to actually play Lair, it's the greatest level of fail in recent gaming history
i mean, sega rally revo beats the hell out of Lair, and i think that sega rally revo is the **** driving game on the market, pure **** sega has gone to making trash games, and even then, Lair sucks even worse
For all of you saying Lair, how long was it hyped? Was it even a big deal a year before its release?
Hellgate: London is the true dissapointment. With a legion of Diablo 2 fans waiting over 2 YEARS for it to come out (I among them) each new screenshot and amazing CGI trailer hyped this game into oblivion.
And then it came out. And sucked. Hard.
So Lair may be a bigger flop by SW standards, but in terms of pure letdown, HGL is on top.

I remember everyone seeing Lair at e3 2006 and going, "holy crap rogue squadron + dragons, you cant get that wrong", myself included. so much for that.
Definatly Lair. Hyped AAA and it got a 4.5 that's a huge flop.
Those of you saying Super Paper Mario and Metroid those arn't even close. SPM got a 8.8 it almost didn't flop. Metroid got 8.5 but still has AAA on gamerankings.
I'm also going with Manhunt 2. Could've been great.TacoJelly
To Rockstar's creditManhunt was a flop primarily because they had to cut it to shreads to get a M rating.

We're not talking about GameSpot flops, we're talking about games that we were dissappointed in.
Oh, and by the way, Lair was hyped AA.
Personally, Tarr Chronicles. It had such a potential with pretty graphics and great gameplay. But they decided that the story in their "story-driven" space shooter should be told via text in your journal, wtf! And that you couldn't save your game or skip "cutscenes" forcing you to rewatch them everytime you die.
Officially, Lair.
I haven't really played a bad 2007 game, but I was dissapointed when I found my rig somehow chugs with Orange Box and can barely run Bioshock :(Optusnet
Sounds like me a few year back. I need to upgrade, damnit!
Personally because I can only speak of games that I played. HS was more disappointing then Lair. I didn't find Lair nearly as bad as ppl make it out to be. Lair wasn't great by any stretch of the imagination but more like a 7.5 then a 4.5 bc i had fun with it. HS was good but way too short and I wanted more story. I think my biggest dissapointment had to be the delay of Orange Box on ps3. I should be playing it by now but I have to wait another month.
If you want to know what game will win most disappointing game on gs's annual awards, it will probably be Lair.
Tough. I would say Lair. I was genuinely hoping for a great PS3 game to come out and Lair had potential. Other than that, I'm going to have to say Hour of Victory. Sure, nobody hyped it, but then again, I thought the days of getting scores below 3.0 were over!
To be fair, I think pretty much any third party Wii game is disappointing. The most being Dewy's Adventure...
