Resident Evil 3 (made up with Code Veronica and 4 though)

KOTOR 2 (still want a KOTOR 3 but)

Doom 3 (not bad, not great)

Tony Hawk 3 (the start of the series decline)

Splinter Cell: Double Agent (still looking forward to Conviction)

Metal Gear Solid 2 (made up withMGS3)

Crazy Taxi 3 (what were they thinking???)

Civilization 3 (Civ 4 rocks, looking forward to Revolution and Civ 5)

Crash Bash (after Naughty Dog left Crash, it was never the same)

Yoshi's Island DS (still awesome, but feels like the same game as first one)

Super Mario Bros. 2 (made up with 3, but 2 was a low point)

Tekken 4 (tekken 3 was awesome. Tekken 4 wasn't)

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within (lost it's way, though made up with Two Thrones)

Devil May Cry 2 (another sequel that didn't do enough. 3 was better though)

Broken Sword 4 (changed the game and made it worse)

Call of Duty 3 (just wasn't as good as COD1 + 2. Though looking forward too COD4)

Need for Speed Underground 2 (too much aimless driving. Never got back to it's former glory since)

Rise of Legends (technically not a sequel, though it uses the core built on Rise of Nations. Just wasn't as good)

Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault (still looking forward to Airborne, but this is the PC low-point for the series)

Medal of Honor: Rising Sun (followed by the console low point for the series)

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (Just wasn't as fun and stylish as Vice City. Looking forward to 4 though)

Super Mario Sunshine (funnies ad ever, but a game that couldn't live up to Super Mario 64)

Oddworld: Munch's Odyssey (could have been better, but still very good. Stranger's Wrath was the best)

Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 (felt way too much like a expansion for RCT1)

That's about all I know of. And some of the games are still excellent.

People should realise that there are no sequels to Final Fantasy. As for me, Devil May Cry 2 and Perfect Dark Zero.

*cough* X-2 *cough*

Actually, I think the fact alone that it was a sequel helped make itthe bastard child of the series...

Perfect Dark Zero takes the cake as THE most dissapointing sequel ever. How it managed to get decent reviews is beyond my comprehension. It gave up its original style and depth ans replaced it with the simplistc and minimalistic Halo-knockoff style. All of the depth and customization found in the original was nowhere to be found in Zero. They even butchered some of the weapons in the game. the lap top gun was the BEST gun in the original, but in PDZ, it is one of the worst. I would seriously kick everyone in that dev team square in the balls for the garbage they produced.

Honorable mentions include Half Life 2 - Soley because of the insanely underwhelming AI and the slightly TOO linear paths. and to Halo 2 as well, because it turned a decent shooter into a star wars wanna be.

Looked at my profile and just started thinking about it, lol.

I didn't mention a few though, such as Spyro: Enter the Dragon and Ratchet and Clank 3. I could even put Warcraft 3 there, but only because online, WC2 is far better. But then, I don't know if you could call WoW making up for it, as it certainly sucked up some of my life.

But there are games out there which have had sequels which are far better than their predecessors.

For instance;

Resident Evil 2 (faster, better graphics, better puzzles, better scares, all round better game)

Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back (Made the game less linear, better story, more action)

Warcraft 2: Tides of War (So much better than the original, and a very good story)

The Sims 2 (The Sims weren't/aren't as braindead, and there is some objectives and reason to play now)

Need for Speed 3 (introduces cop chases and other ocol things. A lot of cool unlockable tracks)

Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus (puzzles made more sense and were more fun. Quicksave made game less frustrating)

GTA 3 (Doesn't really need to be said how this was an improvement)

GTA: Vice City (And when you thought GTA 3 was good...)

Resident Evil 4 (changed the series for the better, and was just great fun overall)

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (made the game a little more action, upped the online play, gave you more options - story was fantastic)

Tony Hawk 2 (such a huge leap over the original)

Civ 2 (made the game deeper and looked a lot better too)

Sim City 2000 (Doesn't even need to be said, really. Too bad the series has gone downhill since)

And probably a lot more Im missing.

Looking back on this list and the previous one - you can tell I'm an avid Resident Evil fan. :D

Tomb Raider 3. The first game was great for it's time. The 2nd game was like the first, but bigger and more varied. From the 3rd one on, they started to offer nothing new, and were often times unpolished and lacking that original Tomb Raider charm and looked more like an attempt to cash in on the Tomb Raider name. Zerostatic0
Thats funny, because when I read the title to this thread, TR3 was the first game to pop in my head. TR1 was a great first game. Then came TR2, and it improved on everything and added to it (I remember being just blown away at how great the graphics are). I loved the new foes added to TR2. Then, well then came TR3 and it just plain sucked. All I could think was "WTF". The graphics seemed to be a bit downgraded from 2 and the gameplay, oh man the gameplay. It was way to hard for the average gamer to start with. To this day, of all the TR games I have played, I think 2 was the best.

Same. I mean, there's cool weird, like in MGS3 (the bosses), and then there's just WEIRD weird, ala MGS2.

Good thread... but the TC put in FFXII??? Huh?  That game was universally praised...
Anyway, here are mine:
Devil May Cry 2
Prince of Persia WW
Alundra 2 (remember how good the first was?)
Tomb Raider AOD (was supposed to rejuvenate, but sucked)
Mech Assault 2
Super Mario Sunshine
Dino Crisis 3 (killed a great franchise)

Ratchet Deadlocked was a big disappointment in my eye. Smackdown vs Raw was also a big disapointment because it couldn't live up to the standard set by Smackdown:HTCP.

The art work was brilliant, all they had to do was sort the gameplay and story out, and give Dante a bit more cockiness and this could have been the megaton sequal  oh so bad memories

Doom 3 lost everything that was fun about Doom. It was a slow tech demo that was so dark and dreary and crappy I cant believe it. The guy cant hold a gun and a flashlight at the same time. Nothing more needs to be said.

Okay everyone post what you think are some of the most dissapointing sequels (spanning all generations and platforms)

Ooh oohME ME!!:D

m'kay lets see

Devil may cry 2

Halo 2

Super mario sunshine

Pokemon ruby/saphire

tekken 4:(

soul calibur 3

final fantasy XII

final fantasy X-2

and whichever sonic game was the first one that was horrible

....now you go

norfair_dweller

the game was a AAA and you say it was dissepointing? wow

You don't have to like a game just because it scored AAA.

How can a AAA game be disappointing? It only means that it doesn't appeal to your taste. AAA at GR since GS is only one review.

Doom 3 was soooooo overated.  It was shallow, boring, and repetitive, but still got good scores for some reason, but I was so geeked for that game and what a letdown.

Yeah it did, but I still thought it was an excellent game.  FFX good? No, but I expected it to suck so for me it turned out way better than I thought it would.

here are a few of mine...UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ARE THESE BAD GAMES! JUST BAD SEQUELS!!!

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - Lack of musical instrument really hurt it and the game felt like it started to drag on and lost alot of its fun factor.

Halo2 - Great game? yes. Worthy successor of Halo CE? No...dont believe me? ask Bungie.

"Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (Just wasn't as fun and stylish as Vice City. Looking forward to 4 though)"

Oblivion - Great game but compared to Morrowind, its just empty vissual eye candy.

Well, if you dive in with really low expectations, chances are, you're going to be surprisingly impressed. But I went in with the hopes that it would recover my disappointment with FFX's story (which wasn't bad, but I expected more), and instead, I was let down AND had a downright bad plot thrown in my face.

Deus Ex: Invisible War

The original was my favourite single player game ever. They took out absolutely everything that was good about the game and left nothing but a hollow shell. They ruined the game so they could release it on the XBox.

Pokemon ruby/Sapphire: Gold and silver contained two regions and a whopping 16 badges. Not to mention for it's time it had all the pokemon including the new ones *they were new then, totodile, cyndaquil etc*

Ruby and sapphire only had one region and I though some of the pokemon from the first 2 gens were extinct.

I couldn't find Pidgey or butterfree anywhere. Instead they tried to replaced them with knock-off's like swellow and beautifly.

The only thing good that came from the ruby/saphire gen was mudkips. Everyone lieks mudkips.

How can a game which followed up a 9.7 with a 9.4 be considered a dissapointment? even mentioning it in there with Soul Calibur 3 and DMC2 screams Fanboy.braydee1234

Halo 2's Single Player was nominated for the Biggest Disappointment of all of 2004 by Gamespot themselves:

The only reason Halo 2 got a 9.4 on Xbox, is because it's multiplayer was so ahead for a console shooter, but the single player campaign was an utter disappointment.

You have made a powerful enemy today

:P

I loved the setting and story of MM, but i hated the gameplay. Putting a time limit on Zelda is just stupid.

Oh yeah, and the skull kid is one awesome bad guy.

The time limit thing was just plain genious, because of it MM revolutionized side quests.

Totally agree.  Linear levels, blah story, and like 6 hours long.

I would consider those disappointing if I hadn't you know..had no faith in 3D Castlevania and generally lost faith in Capcom's ability to produce a good Mega Man game before they ever released that. After all, the only reason I own any Battle Network games is because I got them during Best Buy's yearly game clearance for $5 each.

Still though, Curse of Darkness was still well-served by the Castlevania atmosphere/mythos and some nice areas, it was the idiotic corridor design that killed it.
