NO way. LOL.
I may have said that when I was younger, but NO way.

MOST IMPORTANT IN HISTORY....not most revered N64 savior game.

Actually yes way.

Zelda is a great game but i don't think it's release was ground breaking although as much of a great game it was. IMO Golden EYE did more for FPS on consoles than OOT did for the Action Adventure genre.

Yeah..uhm okay. OoT was a revolutionary game. It basically set the standards for roaming around in 3d enviornments in games.

no way Mario 64 was before it. and so was Golden eye. OOT just perfected it.

Yeah and perfecting that isn't a big deal at all.

ET for the Atari. Without it, the gaming industry might not have fallen and caused the creation of all the games you listed. zomgrad

And we wouldn't have learned that Movie games suck, We could have rated Eragon AAA!

I say SMB. Without it, console gaming would have died, which pretty much means all gaming.

RE4 has influenced other video games-Sora
to bad it's part 4 and to soon to tell if it'll have an impact on games in the future but it didn't really Innovate. RE code veronica was alot like it minus the view.

No Doom, which put FPS on the map. No Quake that put online play on the map and was the first fully 3D game? No Pong? The game that put games on the map? No SM64, which left the blueprint for soo manny 3d games to come?

EDIT: Would Dune be one too, wasn't it that game that made RTS?

The N/A gaming market would have died, not gaming as a whole. Japan and europe were still gaming.

how would Mario 64 be created if it wasn't for SMB? Wolfenstien put FPS on the map and your entitaled to your opinion but really who has try to take elements from Pong since it's release? it's not about first it's about importance in terms of adding new elements, selling a butload and populorizing that specific genre more than it was before. Pong got old fast and Mario Dominated it. Pong helped Show what Consoles can do put it's importance wore off after Mario.

Wolf 3D laid the blueprint, but it was Doom that put it on the map, it was THE game to have at the time. PONG showed us gaming could work, we owe alot  to PONG. It seems our opinion of what makes a game important differs.

Yeah, I would replace Madden with Doom.

I also think that Grand Theft Auto 3 took violent video games to much more media coverge than Mortal Kombat.  Besides, Mortal Kombat was a game that rode off the popularity of another game in the same genre that was far more influential...Street Fighter 2.

I agree with the other three choices, and I do no believe Ocarina of Time deserves a spot.  Ocarina of Time was a popular game in a popular series, but did not effect the world around it at all

Not sure what your trying to prove here, I didn't ask for your credit. Just asking in general, my knowlage is rusty when it comes to RTS. Its a genre that i have managed to isolate myself from, allthough I have recently obtained Red Alert 2, which is a great game.

yes because everyone remembers everysingle amazing game they ever played 10-20 years ago that had a impact on gaming history.... please why are you even atacking the guy

rts id say starcraft, huge rts title, revolutionized multiplayer with battle.net

fps either doom or wolfstein

rpg, FF 1-6, 7 while 7 mantained the same level of quality as its previous game FF franshise started to go loose its touch since then

mario64 mario 64 was and still is how a 3d plataformer should be made

2d plataformer Mario/Castlevania/Megaman 3 great franshises that changed 2d gaming

Ultima for opening the mmo door

and pong for making all this possible

It probably was, but at the time I was playing it I did not read reviews or anything so it was not a flop in my book.

OOT was not important??? Maybe im misinformed, but tell me a of a good 3D action-adventure game before OOT please. I guess the only one would arguably be Tomb Raider...but imo it wasnt that good. OOT set the standard for how sword games are played in the action adventure genre. OOT also had the lock on system.

It may not have been the most influential game ever, but saying it wasnt important is totally wrong.

Setting standards is not the same as being influential.  New video games set standards all the time.  And standards can be disputed...I believe that Ocarina of Time has been surpassed, but many people do not.

Importance can't be disputed.  People can hate Final Fantasy VII all they want, but that doesn't change the fact that the medium became much more RPG based because of its success

For Street Fighter II that is beyond question. However, Dragon Quest wasn't anything near popular as Final Fantasy outside of Japan. No Dragon Quest game ever came for the SNES outside of Japan, pretty much it got it's re-surge in the PS with DQVII, and it did had nowhere as the impact of FFVII.

Now this isn't merely a matter of greatest game, this is based on history and thus I believe my choices fit well if not best.

In no paticular order:

Pac-Man
Donkey Kong
Super Mario Bros.

These games essentially got the game industry going. Sure there was Pong and Space Invaders before but these are landmark titles that got people to buy and play these games. There could be more attributed to the beginning but I think these 3 are the most important.

In no particular order:

Halo- Without it the Xbox would have made the Dreamcast look like the PS2.

Doom- One of the best FPS's ever and along with Quake and Wolfenstein helped define the FPS genre.

KOTOR- Best story ever.

FF7- Without it the PS1 may never have been successful.

Diablo- No Diablo means no WoW. 'Nuff said.

Trying to pin down the most influential and important titles in gaming history to just a few is pointless. It's like trying to pin down a few songs or bands as the most important/influential ever. There are simply way too many genres, franchises, spin-offs, styles etc to claim that just a few could possibly be responsible for the massive range that exists today.

On a side note, I'd easily put classic arcade games like Pacman or Space Invaders as more historic than games like Madden or Metal Gear Solid (much though I love the latter). And FF7, while undoubtedly more popular, is less important than the original Dragon Quest on the NES, which pretty much started the whole idea of console RPGs, like it or not.

In English-speaking countries, yes, fair enough. In Japan though, it pretty much exploded onto the scene, creating a whole new genre, and the mass market appeal you mentioned spawned series like FF. Without DW's success, there probably wouldn't have been an FF7, at least probably not in the form as we know it.

I actually agree somewhat with you. But you did regard his list as a decent one and I can't see any reasons of why MGS, MK, FF7 or Madden would stand above OOT in that category. I can actually see reasons of OOT being ahead of all of those.

good list.

imo, the top 5 most influential games would be.

1. pong - resposible for sparking alot of interest in the early game industry

2. mario bros. - set new standards in puzzles, secrets, and gameplay, set the quality standards for the next decades.

3. zelda - ditto

4. dragon quest - game after which all rpgs are modled, notably ff

5. Sonic - helped to widen the gaming marketplace by a significant amount, without this, sony may have not seen helping nintendo as intelligent business expansion, which would mean there would be no ps or xbox, nintendo would have likely held a monopoly on the industry when sega would enevitably fall.

Why are people jumping on the people who say OoT but not saying anything to the people who say Halo. In my opinion neither deserve to be in the top 5 most important games in history but OoT is much closer than Halo.
