Mario by far. At least with each new FF game (with exceptions to VII compliation, XI, and Revenant wings and remakes) we get a new world, new characters, completly different story, and changes to the battle system each time.

And you dont see Super Cloud Golf, or Ramsa Party, or Super Squall Bros., or even Super Tidus Strikers Charged.

When Mario has his is sports games and a DDR game, you know its being milked.

Mario for sure but sports games get milked every year so it is close to a tie.

I mean you get at most maybe 5 Mario games a year, whereas sports games are worse, what with EA and 2k Games both making sports titles, so 2x football, 2x hockey, 2x baseball not to mention Pro Evo soccer and Fifa every year and that is generally just on one platform, multiply it all by each platform with each game and then try and tell me the whole sports thing does not get milked every year.

Depends on how you look at it, in reality, only one or two TRUE Mario games are released every gen, while there's a boatload of spinoffs and such. But if you look at Final Fantasy, not only are there going to be 13 in all, but 1-6 have all been remade on handhelds, FF1 has been remade twice, once on the GBA, once on the PSP, making a total of 20 games, and then there's also Tactics, which there will soon be a total of four in all once the DS and PSP versions are released, FF7 snowboarding (yes, this is true), Chocobo Tales, and the party game spin-offs as well.

So if you look at total number of games including spinoffs and remakes, there are more Mario games, but as for main and true games of the franchises, FF isclearly the more milked of the two.

glitchgeeman

You do realize that Mario games also has been on multiple platforms and has been remade before.

You would be suprised how many Mario games are out there.

Well, let's put it this way.

Mario's been in over 200 games. There are under 50 final fantasy games.

Mario is the most used franchise in videogames, by far. BY FAR.

Mario tennis, mario golf, mario soccer, mario strikers, mario kart, mario 64, paper mario, mario rpg, super smash brothers, dr. mario, mario teaches typing, mario party....

How can you even compare FF to this ridiculous mario overload? this franchise spreads like a disease, it's everywhere, and otherwise mediocre games get huge boosts off the mario name!

osirisomeomi

I actaully tried to count the number of FF games one time. It was about a year ago, but I think I got 42...or something like that.

Mario is the most milked character, not the most milked franchise. FF is easily one of the most milked franchises.foxhound_fox

FF15++++ games Mario 150++++ games???????????????????????????

That's my logic. And a lot more goes into a FF game.

Mario is not a franchise, he is a character. His "main" franchise is the platformers... for the most part there have been one a generation. Mario is the most milked character but his franchise is not nearly as milked as the "Final Fantasy" franchise.

And there are about 50 FF games.

No... it is not. Mario's likeness might be used but he was originally a platformer. His "franchise" is platformers. Mario is not the most milked "franchise."

I say FF, cuz at least Nintendo has the balls to make a Mario game and you know the game will actually be Mario, instead of turning out crap and just slapping a popular name on it to get sales, and they are pretty much amazing everytime..... Square Enix however are cowards and just slap the Final Fantasy on the packaging now to increase sales.

Square Enix: "Well we're making another generic RPG, what should we name it? Guys? anyone got any ideas???"

Square Enix Employee: "Hey I know, lets call it....Generic emasculated Troubled youth with an attitude learns he is special for some unknown reason and later becomes the worlds savior"

Square Enix Boss: "No no..... thats our story line"

Square Enix Employee: "Sorry boss, forgot"

Square Enix Boss: "Okay.... so everyone okay with Final Fantasy?"

*Entire room nods in agreement*

I voted for Mario, but I changed my mind. I think FF is milked more because there have been a billion remakes, and the devs aren't even trying to improve the series. How much longer will it take for Square Enix to realize that RANDOM BATTLES SUCK?

You kinda have to remember that Nintendo isn't the only company to make games that features Mario, but Square-Enix is the only company that makes FF games and features their characters.

Both games followed similar patterns... In the beginning for each series the stories and gameplay were almost identical for every one in it's series. Mario had Peach being kidnapped by Bowser, FF had the four warriors of light carrying crystals to rid the world of darkness. Eventually, they began getting different stories and gameplay (though it took FF a lot longer than Mario for gameplay...). Nearly every game since I would say Super Mario World for Snes has been really different, especially the RPG series. They aren't the same over and over again like people make them out to be.

i would have to say mario because theyve run out of directions to go with it and have resorted to placing him in sports games that have nothing to do with the original formula.

next up: mario sewing and mario crochet.

final fantasy by far, every game has the exact same boring randombattled gameplay and they've remade the 2d ones literally like thrice each.

mario's gameplay may not change much, but it doesn't get old, and the only remakes i've seen were for game boy.

Messer_Partei

Yeah last time I checked and played FFXII doesnt have random battle and the new fighting system is awesome.

There is no contest here, MARIO easy.

At least with FF they always have diff characters, and they don't recycle the same ones over and over and over ..... you get the point.

Now if square enix could just decide on what gender to make there characters, would be nice to play a FF game and not have to guess if its a guy or a girl.

I had to go mario, the question isnt which games do you like better or which ones have changed more, its which one have been milked the most. I remember playing mario onthe NES and hes appeared on every console and handheld since then doing everything from golfing to painting.

What in christs's name are you talking about?

They do the exact same thing, redo the same formula over and over again, while remaking old versions.

How are they different in terms of milkage?

Neither. Pokemon is by far the most milked franchise, there is no diffrence at all between the pokemon games and they force you to buy two to really "get the full experience".dlp21

FF: attack: fight, enemy: fight, attack: fight, enemy: fight, attack: cure, enemy: fight, attack: fight, enemy: dies, gain x exp, lv up, repeat, for 12 consecutive fricking games.

mario is a mascot nintendo uses for recognition. He gives a face to nintendo. He is SUPOSED to be milked. The FF name is used by square to get people to recongise its RPGs. The name is meant to be milked the characters are not.

is this a joke topic?

if not mario by FAAAAAAAAAAR

every now and again someone stupidly calls FF a milked franchise...That doesnt make sense!

if they were all in a neat chronological order and all had interconnected stories then of course it would stagnate.

But "Final fantasy" imo is like a genre in itself. This fantasy genre hasits own themes, narrative styles, iconic usage of cgi, colourful character (moogle, chocobos).

you get Fps afterfps after fps where you mission is essentially the same, but different developers have made the different games.

if all those Fps were given a similar name, "Final liberation" or something, it wouldnt make sense to call it a milked franchise still because in each iteration there are noticeable alterations tothe gameplay mechanics, storylines, themes, and characters.

you can call FF an uninspired Franchise but not a milked one that fails on many levels to make sense.however you could call FF7 a milked franchise considering all the games that have been borne from that one

once again maaaarrriiiooooo

Depends on your definition.

If you mean by which is trying to get the most out of the same product, that would be Final Fantasy.

If you mean by which is trying to get the most products, that would be Mario.
