Most mismanaged franchise of the past generation.

My first thought was Sonic.

Anyway, if I had to list a "mismanaged franchise", I'd look at ones like

1. Splinter Cell - a titan at one time, now dormant
2. Metal of Honor - *the* military FPS at one time
3. Star Fox - once a pillar of Nintendo first party
4. Metal Gear - will this even continue without Kojima?
5. Fallout - Fallout '76 really damaged the brand, and Fallout 5 is only in the conceptual stage
6. Fable - the last "real" Fable game was released 12 years ago. This used to be a pillar of Xbox first Party

if the goalposts are this gen, it's got to be elder scrolls and fallout.

bethesda game studios offered an absolute pittance last gen. a bunch of mmos that got only a modest to mediocre reception from the gaming press and got far more mainstream notoriety (fallout 76) than mainstream traction, and a hugely underwhelming fallout 4 that's can barely qualify as fallout 3.5 never mind bonafide sequel to fallout 3 / nv.

everyone is rightly excited for starfield but with bethesda's track record last gen it's a long way from being a dead cert and it wouldn't surprise me if it turns out to be this gen's cyberpunk 2077. hopefully microsoft's involvement and influence prevents that

I think you're kinda overreacting there... I mean, the franchise is popular and all but you're talking like Mass Effect is a franchise among the likes of TES or Final Fantasy or somethin. I dont think is as big of a franchise as you make it seem so

Think back 10 years... Can you think of a more poorly handled franchise than Mass Effect over the past generstion+?

Yes, Halo. Infinite looks like a return to form but 343 hasnt been done a great job with it for the last couple of years

GTA, no question. Re-release of the exact, same game GTA 5 instead of a real sequel for two generations. Then they released a botched remaster of the GTA trilogy from the ps2 era. I don't think any other game can compete with that, except maybe Elder Scrolls.

Everything from Ubisoft from Gen 7 and onwards.

Splinter Cell. NHL. Fable. SOCOOM.. Rainbow 6. Syphon Filter, I think that is how to spell it? The series got lost after the PS1.

I agree with Mass Effect. In general Bioware has become awful. They went from my favorite devs to just horrible.
