Final Fantasy (the series) doesn't.

I think the original MGS still has the best soundtrack of the franchise overall, atleast in terms of getting your heart pumping. The main theme that played during boss fights was just epic. The others were still excellent though.
Twin Snakes replacing the original soundtrack is just one big WTF.

Funny, i actually thought that sigle piece is the best in the entire FF series.
I'd say Bioshock and RDR. Bioshock wasn't anything special and I didn't notice most of the music in RDR.

Best FF soundtrack for sure, and possibly best FF game. The atmosphere, characters, story, and humor in that game along with the music, all awesome.

FFVI as well. My 2nd fav FF soundtrack (X is #1) and by Uematsus own admission, his best work.
Who says that RDR has a good soundtrack? O.o The ambient sounds are awesome and really fit into the game well, they're not really 'soundtrack' material though.I'd say Bioshock and RDR. Bioshock wasn't anything special and I didn't notice most of the music in RDR.

[QUOTE="JangoWuzHere"][QUOTE="Mozelleple112"] No they did not.Mozelleple112
Yes they did, nothing in the MGS4 soundtrack is memorable.
Guns of the Patriots White Blood Metal Gear Saga Love theme Sorrow Old Snake Father & Son to name a few that would go on a "top 100 video game soundtracks of all time" listIt's funny how you hear all of those songs only during the game's cutscenes...
No they did not.[QUOTE="Mozelleple112"][QUOTE="JangoWuzHere"]

I think MGS3 has much better tracks in that regard, particularly the alert theme, 'Battle in the Base', 'Takin' on the Shagohod', and the motorbike chase theme.
People are getting confused now about what the question is. Its not the most over rated game's soundtrack. Its just the most over rated soundtrack on its own
id go with morrowind. theres battle music and theres the cue that plays everywhere else. i liked it, but it doesnt work in the game. theres this big melody that just gets played over and over despite the situation. it could get really distracting in crypts that are supposed to be scary or intimate areas shrouded by fog. its disappointing coming from jeremy soule who has made great music for other games. LoG-Sacrament
I thought the music itself was very very good. Really different, but the problem was there were no specific ones for different locations, they were just 'battle' and 'explore'
That's the problem I believe. I remember going in a crypt with happy explroing music going on. Ruined it for me

They're all remasters of old tunes. They fit into the context of the game, but it's not something really worth listening to outside of the game.
Final Fantasy XIII has an excellent soundtrack.
Final Fantasy (the series) doesn't.

Ah come on, this isn't so bad:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9ee_Ez6tFk
And that's only on FF10 and X-2--both of which I wasn't that crazy about.
And Dragon Quest as well?

I agree with the reference to FF13. But I find it hard that you didn't enjoy any other soundtrack in a FF title, or even Dragon Quest for that matter. But it's all opinions though, so maybe it is possible, somehow:o ...:P

As much as I like the Zelda games, the music is quite horrible.

Um yeah it is. Well some of it. it's just liked alot mostly due to nostalgia

I truely didn't notice music in either of those games. Guess they weren't worth listening too :P
I am truely suprised no one mentioned Mass Effect, considering the praise the soundtrack gets. And I don't think it's overrated, in fact it's my favourite soundtracks for any game.

Lol I thought about calling it out, but didn't, since really, why should it matter? I too enjoyed the soundtrack of the games.
But if I had to call ME soundtrack overrated, or at least its reception this gen from gamers, it would be the sequel. I found the soundtrack in the sequel very lackluster when in comparison to the first--It just didn't have as strong an identity to me.
I pick Final Fantasy but not as a whole. I love Final Fantasy's Music, BUT I hate One Winged Angel.
I liked it at first, but it's not the best song in the Final Fantasy Series.

i think its tunes are really catchy. I thought the Hyrule Field theme was impressive on its own. It could be due to nostalgia, but no other game has had me glued to the music like Zelda. :DI haven't actually heard much of FF music but since so many people like it it hasto be overrated. The other 2 I hear so much praise for but it's really bad. Both have some decent songs here and there but it's 90% crap imo, what do you think?
SquirrelTamer
Wow.... Thats just... Wow...
Seriously thats sig worthy... This right here is the biggest problem ive seen on system wars. Anything thats popular is instantly labeled crap and overated. Did you know the composer for the FF music is highely regarded and has created some of the best soundtracks ever on a game??
Even if by personal taste (like a song could be really good country but it really doesnt matter because I hate country) you dislike it, you still cant say its crap, especially not becasue its popular....
And to answer the thread, no none are overated they all have something to offer that gives it reason to be popular..
[QUOTE="i5750at4Ghz"]Final Fantasy, or any game that uses a bunch of orchestral music.kusseseAs opposed to what? Licensed soundtracks and simplistic 3-piece songs? Something with some actual bass. Like the new BF theme, or all of afro samurai.
Edit - And Crysis 2, almost forgot that.

yeah, and theres also the problem that its an ambient score based on a big catchy melody. looping back to that melody in nearly every situation lessens the impact. subtlety and restraint go a long way in an ambient score even if its for a big game.Megaman and Megaman X series pwns all soundtracks in this thread! And my vote goes to Halo, FF overrated? Not a freakin chance.
