Grand Theft Auto IVKC_HokieThis. 98 meta for something so visibly flawed as this? I smell conspiracy.

LA Noire, really. I can't let this one off, it's so streamlined and linear for a sandbox game. Also, the repetitiveness begins to grind on you oh so badly by vice division.
Any popular game. Everyone knows the best games are unknown with a low budget. Ever heard of Youtin? Exactly.
GTA4, MGS4, and ES4 take the cake for me for overrated. Also Duke Nukem and FF7.
Well I guess I'll toss in my 2 cents. The most overrated games for me would be...
Half-Life 2
Gears Of War 1
Shadows Of The Collosus
Call Of Duty Moder... well... actually every COD is overrated
Red Dead Redemption
And pretty much every Elder Scrolls, Mass Effect and games of that nature in general.

This gen? It's a contest between Mass Effect 2 and Uncharted 2, and both of them are gunning for it hard.
Well, those two and MW2. :P
EDIT:
Oh, and CoD4. You know, that game that pretty much ruined everything?
DarkLink77
What is your beef with Uncharted!? :P
While I really enjoyed ME2, I can understand your choice of that, as it has many inarguable problems, but Uncharted 2 does not. As much as people accuse Uncharted 2 of being just a cinematic experience, I feel it has some of the best gameplay this gen, and almost brings me back to the days of Goldeneye 64 for some reason.
I hate games that are linear to the point that that may as well be on-rails. That's basically what Uncharted is. Linear platforming, linear encounters that play pretty much the same every time, etc. I played Jak and Daxter and Uncharted back to back, and the difference in the amount of control the games decide to give the player was staggering.*darklink77 is now playing Call of Duty: Black Ops*
Just saiyan ;)
GTA IV (meh)
Uncharted 2 (very good, but not what it's made out to be)
Halo 2 (MP is good, SP is crap)
MGS4 (again a good game, but does not deserve 10 imo, is inferior to snake eater)
^^ ME2 and UC2 must be the only 2 worthwhile games this gen... *facepalm*This gen? It's a contest between Mass Effect 2 and Uncharted 2, and both of them are gunning for it hard.

Great graphics but bad gameplay and story. I loved the cinematic feel of it but that got stale and it never felt like you were doing anything awesome.I'd agree with Uncharted 2.

[QUOTE="the-obiwan"]MGS4 takes the lead!clone01I concur. I bought a PS3 for this game got about halfway through cause I was forcing myself to play it. My problem might be I never played the other MGS games but I did read the stories. Although an amazing game should still hold my interest even if I dont know the story well.
Oblivion 4 and MGS4. MGS4 wasn't bad but not even as good as MGS3. Had to force myself to finish the game even though I love the series. Don't know what to say about Oblivion except it was a borefest. Spent about 15 hours before never touching the game again.

It's the free weekend on Steam. I'm trying it too even though I hate CoD. :PMGS4 for sure.
Its fanboys make it out to be one of the greatest games of all time, but while it did have better gameplay than other MGS games, its design was watered down, the stealth elements lacked tension or cohesion with the overall design, the bosses were so much worse than other entires, the pacing was the most uneven of the series, the environments were far less compelling than other MGS games and were far less memorable and more plain, the story was so much worse than all the other entries; the story didn't even have a semblance of focus or narrative cohesion (felt like Kojima was winging it), and it didn't have as many interesting scenarios.
Also, to be one of the greatest games of all time, a game IMO has to really outshine the competition in atleast a few areas and MGS4 IMO isn't the king of any category.
Its visuals look rather flat in comparison to a game like Uncharted (both of them) or Gears. It's gunplay is noticeably weaker than many other shooters (especially other TPS like Gears and Uncharted). There are games with more compelling stories and with better storytelling, games with better pacing, tons of games with more elegant control schemes, games with better voice acting, games with better writing, games with better stealth elements, games with better AI (the AI in MGS4 is a little dopey), games with more vivid environments/atmosphere, etc.
The game has alot going for it (like having a fair amount of variety, a unique indentity, lots of great moments, etc), but I think the game is simply outclassed by other games in almost all key areas.
Oblivion 4 lol[QUOTE="jubino"][QUOTE="ExoticAnimal"]

Tis cool, bro . I'd be doing pretty good if that was my biggest mistake today. Is it that surprising? What's worse: a game that you don't like and everyone else hates as well, or a game you don't like, yet everyone insists on telling you how good it is?Any game thats good and gets popular according to gamespot. Really? these threads are rediculous...

This gen? Where to begin.....
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is a mockery of everything Metroid as a whole stands for. But for some reason people think it's an awesome shooter..... it's not. It's a terrible shooter with overly simplified level design, poor puzzles, poor combat (which ironically became the focus), a shoe-horned story, terrible characters and a genuine lack of atmosphere. So yeah, Corruption sucks and don't ever let any Wii fanboys tell you otherwise.
Mass Effect 2 tried to become a shooter while ME1 was a neat hybrid. The end-result is a game with barely present RPG elements (which are completely unnecessary to playing the game BTW), very dull, unpolished combat (glitched on me multiple times), CoD level design, scripted enemies, no exploration, no plot, cookie-cutter characters and a laughable suicide mission. I mean, in any other game that suicide mission would be the freaking tutorial. For BioWare, it's the best they've got.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is criminally over-rated. From the moment I played it I knew I was in for a sorry ride. Call of Duty 4 was over-rated as it was, but that game was nowhere near as bad as MW2. A campaign that involved killing you off like six times, endingin a cliffhanger, bringing back dead characters from the original, taking four and a half hours to complete.... and hey, there was this multiplayer that apparently was so buggy and glitch-ridden that I immediately returned to playing Halo 3.
Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty 4 are over-rated as well, but not as much as MW2.
Gears of War 2 is way over-rated by critics. It's nowhere near as good as the original and yet it has been just as critically successful. The level design abandons the entrenched and more guerilla feel of the first and goes for a more "push forward" mentality that just doesn't lend itself well to Gears. The campaign was overbloated, childish at best and took itself far too seriously. There are Gears of War fans that say they cried when Dom had to kill Maria. Honestly, I cry when I realize people like that actually live in the same freaking world as me. Shoot them or teach them to get a grip on reality. Multiplayer was a mess as well, but Horde was decent.
BioShock earned praise because of its setting and story. However it was never criticized for its stupid corridor shooter gameplay, incessant fetch-quests, poor enemy AI, floaty gunplay and piss-poor finale that destroyed all of the atmosphere the game had going for it.
Fallout 3 is just a bad game. How anyone can tell me this is a good RPG is beyond me. The world is huge.... but it's empty. And while I understand that it's a post-apocalyptic world, there's still NOTHING to do in that world. The combat blows on top of it all. VATS is the only way to play, too bad it just leads to a ton of cutscenes of your ugly-ass character shooting bullets at raiders and mutants.
Shadow Complex is a ridiculous rip-off of Super Metroid and Symphony of the Night. I don't give a crap what people say, this is not the direction XBLA should be heading. It's bad. Uninspired and basic design that never elevates itself from its inspirations, but rather tries to mimic to the point of plagiarism.
Braid is terrible. I still can't believe I willingly dropped $15 on this game. I mean, there's literally nothing to do other than to solve some stupid puzzles to learn your a stalker...... oh right, spoiler alert.... or something.
Super Meat Boy sucks! I can't believe this crap got a 9.5. It literally feels like a flash game. I paid $15 for what is a flash game. F*** this!
And probably more, but I'm getting sleepy. :P

No plot? Wow... Mass Effect had a different plot which I enjoyed very much each character had their own interesting story that added a another layer of depth to the overall plot of the suicide mission. There is no COD level design in this at all. There was some ecporaltion but that isnt key for being overrated. Oh and tell me a tutorial where the main character can die. Maybe it was easy for you since you looked up all the decisions to make up online...

MP was disappointing. I did enjoy the campaign though.

Way underrated game imo. Corrider shooter gameplay isnt stupid just because its not your **** However, some missions were annoying.

Based on the games I have played this gen UC2, GTA 4, Crysis and RDR. I mean honestly, anything that got a 9.5+ here this gen was probably a bit overrated to one extent or another. DA:O is a game I greatly enjoyed and the PC version got a 9.5, but the damn game was both buggy and ugly which in my mind doesn't deserve that score and the general accolade that it gets in general.
Any CoD after MW1 (especially MW2)
Elder Scrolls Series
Gears of War series
I agree with you on Zelda 64
I would probably add MGS4 (if I ever played it...I'll get around to it)
