FPS is overrrated, over saturated and getting a tad stale.
Honestly i'd say platformers are horrendously underrated games.Especially this gen despite the 10 score of SMG2.

I know right? Let's not forget the 9.5 for SMG, 8.5 for DK and Rayman, 9.5 for meatboy and braid, 9.0 of little big planet and LBP2, 8.5 for new super mario bros and 8.0 for super mario 3D land. Horrendously underrated indeed.

Not enough boom boom 25 killstreak action, I'm afraid.
Adventure games. Hasn't been a good adventure game from a large studio in quite along time, they're mostly only made by indie developers.
Uncharted?Adventure games. Hasn't been a good adventure game from a large studio in quite along time, they're mostly only made by indie developers.

[QUOTE="toast_burner"]Uncharted? Isn't an adventure game. It's more action/adventure. He's talking about point and click stuff like Grim Fandango/Monkey Island or stuff like Indigo Prophecy and Heavy Rain.Adventure games. Most underappreciated gaming genre: 2d platformers and racing games.
Most over-rated gaming genre: RPG's. No contest.
[QUOTE="AcidSoldner"][QUOTE="themajormayor"] oh... I understand how you associate it with point and click but not with adventure. point and click games ARE adventure games they are the original adventure games

Almost everyone dismisses puzzle, rhythm, adventure/visual novel and sports games. Oh well, their loss.EponiqueVisual Novels are not adventure games, don't lump them together.
for once we agree... but then again you gotta accept that the quality that has been delivering the JRPG lately hasnt been good at all.JRPGs

SMG not only has a 90+ on metacritic but it has sold more than 10 million copies... The game's anything but underrated or underappreciated.
Platformers (Been playing Rayman Origins and my god....so underrated.)
and Puzzle games not called Portal. (Portal is great, but it is literally the ONLY puzzle game recently that has gotten good recognition.
I actually agree with TC, at least when it comes to these forums. I just hate it when people complain about the lack of innovation in the genre and say it's generic, while all they play is Call of Duty and Battlefield. With the likes of Stalker, Cryostasis, Arma and BioShock, there have been tons of first person shooters that took the genre to higher plains and into exciting new directions. It deserves some recognition for this at least.
I'll also go with sports games, which can be some of the most addictive games out there, and grand strategy, which is not so much underrated as it is not rated at all.
Id say FPS. COD is good, but people dont appreciate the quality and quantity it brings to the industry each year.Second_HokageI was going to say fps for laughs but you beat me too it....
Easily RTS games.
Halo wars was one of my favorite games this gen. let alone the beautiful RTS behemoths on PC like starcraft and Company of Heroes.
I dunno, The Warriors last gen was a fantastic beat em up. i miss that game :(Beat 'em ups. It's the best genre when done right, but it hasn't been since 1994.

The only 3D beat 'em up I ever liked was Fighting Force, but even that one has issues. I'm not a fan of 3D beat 'em ups, because I feel they lose their speed and arcade like feel. I want this, but with 4 players and just more of everything in general.

It's like all people play these days. I'd say JRPGs. So much ridiculous hatred against those by people who haven't ever played one.
