Flight sims. There aren't many of them, and those that exist are restricted to PC/Mac or some high-end hydraulically driven simulator. I understand it's a niche market and the learning curve is as steep as it gets but I wouldn't mind seeing some new blood around, both in terms of development studios and players.

Puzzle. Even the best games in the genre are often ignored.

FPS is overrrated, over saturated and getting a tad stale.

Honestly i'd say platformers are horrendously underrated games.Especially this gen despite the 10 score of SMG2.

I know right? Let's not forget the 9.5 for SMG, 8.5 for DK and Rayman, 9.5 for meatboy and braid, 9.0 of little big planet and LBP2, 8.5 for new super mario bros and 8.0 for super mario 3D land. Horrendously underrated indeed.

but a lot of people discard them because they are platfomers;)

That's true at least. The same thing happened with Sly, Ratchet and Jax. :(

On the internet? Puzzle. You get a truly fantastic game in that genre(World of Goo, Portal, Braid) and act like it's a second cIass citizen compared to a "AAA game" in the action genre. jg4xchamp
That's because they're boring as hell. I can't formulate a really detailed argument. But seeing as they are relatively simple games, it becomes increasingly difficult to come up with them. Big expansive games like Skyrim obviously have a lot of flaws because, well, there's a lot more to it. But since this forum is filled with massive science advocates, I guess I can just say it doesn't hit the dopamine quite as hard. But whenever I hear that someone likes boring puzzle games, I think of them as a pretentious hipster, especially if they try to push it... Kind of like what you were just doing.

Grand strategy and 4X games

Pretty much this. Innovative and creative games, that do a lot for the medium and generally go unnoticed by the gushing mainstream 'core' media.

If anything those games (well Portal 2 and Braid, more the former) received overexposure and a huge amount of focus. Portal 2's case is baffling, I honestly don't find it remarkable at all next to puzzle games like Space Chem.

Puzzle are integrated in a lot of today's adventure games so it's like RPG now.. where it's an element implemented in a game to give it a boost. Making a Puzzle game would be hard if you think about it.. you'll have to constantly make up different puzzles and make them not too hard and not too obvious. That's a hard thing to chew on.. so it's better to implemented in adventure games where you would solve the puzzles using gadgets and the such... (Zelda/darksiders/castlevania... etc etc... )
