[QUOTE="WilliamRLBaker"] Then i guess i killed that logic, since i own all 3 systems, have played all the games i bash...and am still biased against sony. I played mgs 4, I sat through thespeedgamers run and really there is onlya bout 2-3 hours of actual gameplay in mgs 4 the rest is movie. Gameplay is in the eye of the beholder, you could sit and fight every fight, do complicated tactics to get past enemeis but in the end with mgs 4 all you have to do is fight a few required boss battles, fight some smaller enemies to get an item to open a door but you can literally RUN PAST not sneak RUN PAST every other enemy in the game and get to other areas without a single problem.Malta_1980
so you're telling me that speedrunning games gives you the same experience as playing for example MGS4 as it should be, taking your time to improve your sneaking skills, upgrade weapons for a more balls-out experience, watching the cinematic cut-scenes etc etc..
I dont think so, and this applies to all games, when you speedrun games you just do it to break records and compare to others but you dont do that on your 1st play... Dont tell me you just buy games such as MGS4 to speedrun them...
No MGS4's design is fundamentally flawed due to difficulty levels and added emphasis on shooter mechanics. On harder difficulties stealth is rewarding and combat is punishing, the gameplay compelling, its great, despite the new emphasis on shooter mechanics and weapons - which are almost a design contradictions.
However on easier difficulties, you are not punished for entering combat. Damage is easily brushed off, and due to the new combat mechanics you can easily kill enemies.
Problem is MGS4 makes a bad shooter in this regard, even with the added shooter mechanics; there is little challenge compared to playing on the harder difficulties, and enemies do not make good direct combat combatants. Playing the game this way is not challenging, and unfulfilling - simply, poor.
As good as MGS4 is, it has huge flaws in its game design - saying that as a Metal Gear Solid fan.
