lulz another fine example of m$ money hunger games. the wii is casual from the get go, the xbox because casual because of kinect, and now the pc will be casual because of kinect. the only hardcore system left if the ps3 which is the best in my eyes

PC hardware is always sold at a hefty profit markup because they cant expect to make money off game licensing fees... this is how console hardware stays so cheap.
we arent that obvlious to basic market principles are we?
That $60 razer mouse you bought probably cost $10 to manufacture.
Pc gamers will pay $60 for a mouse, and $80 for a keyboard, $140 in total, for devices that are worth maybe $20 in parts (being generous).
where is the public outcry for companies like razer and logitech that are robbing you blind?
Seriously Pc gamers, get some perspective.... for a collective of people preaching higher costs for higher quality graphics, you would think you would be less cheap.
In next future
WOW/Kinect Bundle(easy customization with kinect....thingie and controlling your Char on PVPS)
and
April's Joke(Starcraft Motion Overdrive) becoming reality....
ohh great
EPIC FACEPALM
No thanks and I was actually keen on it.illmatic87Don't be keen on it. Of all the motion based stuff I tried, the Kinect works the least well and the least often. It's cool but you should wait till there is a Kinect 2.0. And even then.
For 150$ I can buy Trackir. Sure it does less (only head tracking), but does it far better than Kinect and unlike Kinect for WInodws TrackIr is actually supported by dozens of games.
So meh. I like Kinect tech, but it won't catch up untill it's cheaper and widely supported both by games, as well as Windows 8 UI.

Imo it will start go mainstream once it drops so much in price that PC makers will integrate it in laptops or monitors to replace the existing simple webcams. Once it reaches that point then you'll see full integration on all kind of softwares. Currently, being new technology is obviously big, bulky and expensive. It will surely change in the future.

Propably. Kinect seem like much more natural way of interacting with interfaces than touch on anything besides phones and tablets. But for now they need to push ot just as an accessory for Windows (both desktops and home media centres), because that's when it will catch on first if it has software to back it. This will allow them to built a foundation for wide adoption inside webcams.[QUOTE="edidili"]

After all is comming withsoftware development tools. For now is not targetting gamers.
Something like this for example. Controlling win8 UI with your eyes.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNMFlD5-DIk&feature=related
That's not kinect I think but devs can do creative stuff for that too.
[QUOTE="BibiMaghoo"]It is just a USB connector, get the drivers for free with a google search. starjet905This. Can't believe Microsoft would do such a thing. Same device, $100 more on PC? It is the same device, right?
It's an updated version, better optimized for PCs.
[QUOTE="Moriarity_"]It probably isn't aimed at gamers. They even said the extra $100 is for extra software tools. That being said I still wouldn't pay more $25 for the thing.santoron
No, look at my post earlier in the thread. They said 360 Kinect's price is partially subsidized by Kinect Games, XBoxLive, and "other purchases". Or in other words, they don't anticipate selling any software with this thing, so they are trying to get what they can at the outset.
This
Half the people in this thread are stupid. And for the posters who are talking abot games, srsly? What does games have to do with this?
Microsoft did the same thing with the SO-called "Xbox360 Controller for Windows PC", it's the exact same controller (but costs MORE?!!), with Windows XP-driver disc. My friend knew better than me back in the day when I was buying one and just said, "if you buy a regular 360-controller and plug it in as you have Vista (now I have W7) it will automatically recognize it as the "PC-controller"... And he was right... My Windows said "Microsoft Xbox 360 Controller *for PC* - installed and ready to use"... Ridiculous!! >:(tume-x
Both the wired and wireless "for Windows" controllers have the same MSRPs as their 360 counterparts. Retailers may decide to jack up the price of the Windows-branded versions but that's not Microsoft's fault.
In this case the hardware has been updated so a price increase is somewhat understandable. This also doesn't really seem to be aimed at consumers as much as other types of uses.
lol, nothing has said the components are more expensive just that is has been optimised for PC. For all people know the components used are cheaper lol. The device is the same, thats why they are justifying the price increase with software, not new hardware. BibiMaghoo
the componenets and R&D arent paid for with game licensing fees... how dense are PC users that they cant comprehend this?
How much do you think your mouse cost to manufacture? Nomatter what you paid for your sweet gaming mouse, the parts and labor were probably less than 5 bucks.

As I said earlier, that implies that they are selling the 360 hardware at a loss. If its pricing is based on other purchases for the hardware, then it seems pretty clear that its being sold at a loss. That would also imply that the costs of making kinect are not $25 lol[QUOTE="AzatiS"]Im PC gamer... and no i prefer save this 250 for a next-gen console than buy ... a "motion-controller".. Wtf they thinking? Seriously...navyguy21Well thats the problem with your thinking. Kinect is only a "motion controller" when applied to gaming. The capabilities of it are so much more. Open your mind a bit.... lol... Enough with gimmicks ... especially when they are overpriced like this. Open my mind? Sure... i wont "open" my pocket though for this crap.

wow...so much fail in this thread. kinect is much more than a $25 webcam....it's pretty amazing actually. and it's very precise, if you're having issues controlling it, then you aren't doing it right.

Because its the same hardware? I actually generally find its the reverse of this. Console hardware is marked up beyond its PC counterpart when it comes to accessories. Take a console mouse, it will be more expensive than a PC mouse lol. Take a HDD, console more expensive. Take a keyboard, console more expensive. Generally, Consoles get the short straw when it comes to hardware prices.Well we've all learned in-depth how it actually works ... and it is just a glorified web-cam although coupled with a very precise motion detector.wow...so much fail in this thread. kinect is much more than a $25 webcam....it's pretty amazing actually. and it's very precise, if you're having issues controlling it, then you aren't doing it right.
