Well that puts part of the Lolygon rumor to rest.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
I wasn't aware of this rumor.
Polygon started the rumor a few days ago in one of their articles. They rumored MS was looking into buying EA, Valve or the PUBG devs.
News sites will propagate any unverified rumor to get clicks or sales.
Didn't buy any of these rumor panning out.
Valve wouldn't sell unless it was way more than they are worth.
EA would be expensive as he'll, Microsoft could do it but why? More money than it would be worth.
Bluehole is the most plausible, but for one hit game? Could be a waste of money in the end.
You should have asked ea
And btw if ea is bought by Microsoft that's big because they own the licence to NFL and nhl and fifa as well as need for speed and battlefield and medal of Honor
As I said in the other thread, I think EA would make way more sense for MS anyway. That being said, I think any of this is wishful MS fan thinking. The idea of their all-mighty corporation ruling gaming through brute force is arousing on some level. But I dont think MS needs any of these companies, and I don't think the Xbox division would be granted license to dump the coffers out to buy one of them. Buy individual, smartly chosen studios? Sure.

You know FIFA and the NFL would sue to terminate their contracts if their titles would only go to one unpopular platform, right? NFL 2K would start production faster than you could sneeze nevermind a sports league with global appeal like FIFA willing to chew its own arm off to get out of bed with the XBox.

They would lose these licenses.
No way NFL, FIFA, NHL, or Disney would allow their franchises to be exclusive to the Xbox platform (the least popular platform).
I'm not saying MS is really looking into buying Valve but trust me, it wouldn't be announced via a twitter post. His post is pretty innocuous and confirms nothing sooo, just sayin. :P
While I personally doubt that Microsoft would buy Valve a “Not that I’m aware of.” doesn’t really come across as definitive denial to me especially in the video game industry.
There's no reason for this sale to go through, Valve has no reason to do this right now.
I guess the email is just a respond to some random blogger? stupid.
I once sent a mail to gaben, to ask him about Day of Defeat.
I never got one back :(
Day of Defeat was my first true online shooter, before then I had only played a match or two of CS and disliked it greatly (back in 2000-01)
had a massive clan, would play 7+ hours a night, got into Cal-I.. those were the days.
Anyways after Source the game died, which made me sad, people still play it but not as much.
Have you heard of the game Battalion 1944? It came out in May and is very similar to DoD, same with Day of Infamy.
Do you play any of these?
Any hope of half life 3 coming out is gone.
@navyguy21: Nothing to gain? How does a gigantic bag of money sound? If Microsoft really wanted valve they would have it.

Seems like we play some pretty similar online shooters :)
Day of Defeat was my first true online experience too. I also have fond memories of MOHAA and Return to Castle Wolfenstein.
Besides that, as you know, I like playing Battlefield 1. Perhaps my favourite online shooter of the moment.
I'm also really into Rising Storm 2, as part of the Red Orchestra series.
Something like Battalion didn't hold my interest for very long, because from what I played I feel the game is still a long way from being finished.
Gabe needs to grow a big set of balls and honor his legacy by finishing of the Half Life storyline. It's what made him so successfull and got him where he is today. But no, he is scared Half Life 3 can't deliver the hype. He is afraid of the hate mail he'll receive. Grow up Gabe, don't forget your roots man :'/

Yeah, I hope MS doesn't buy them outright.
I'm not sure what Idiot thought MS could buy Valve, when Valve makes a ton of money thru Steam Etc.
Only and Idiot would think Valve is willing to lose money on a deal like that.
Also what idiot thinks EA is going to sell to MS, when EA makes a tons of cash from both PS and Xbox players.
Oh I forgot , Lemmingss thought all of this was possible . No wonder they are the laughing stock of this console gen.
Fanboys want to believe these rumors, it gives them hope for XBOX One and XBox One 2's future. They were probably started on purpose for this reason because even if it isnt true it gets people talking about MS consoles having games.
That's probably exactly why Polygon wrote it since they're Xbros in press form. Anything they can do to help The Big Green Machine get attention in the down months.

You should really be writing for Infowars with shitty conspiracy theories like that! The shit you fanboys make up is great!

So Polygon wasn't funded on MS money? Former reviews editor Arthur Gies wasn't a huge Xbox fan who didn't exactly hide his disdain for Sony? Ben Kuchera doesn't write Xboxrah-raheditorial pieces? I mean, if I were Phil Spencer, and I needed a talk piece for my product for free advertisement, that's definitely the site to call on.
Microsoft buying EA makes a lot more sense, really. Valve doesn't even make games and Microsoft already has a Windows store to sell their product.

So that is why they went to Digital Foundry to release the Xbox One X hardware news? So now if anyone has anything good to say about Microsoft they are either on the payroll or just Microsoft fanboys? WTF is wrong with you fanboys anymore. I give up, go put your tin foil hat on.
Wheeeeewww. I don't give a shit if they bought anyone else, just stay anyway from Valve and Steam.
@Xabiss: They sent it there because that is what DF does. If they sent it anywhere else there would just be a bunch of people saying "I'll wait for the digital foundry review".

Hahaha funny how you think you know that for a fact. MS has deals already in place with the NFL not to mention this has already happened in the past. You cows need to stop pretending like you know who would do what and how the deals are even structured.

DF aren't fanboys, but they went to DF to do their promotional work for them. They know a lot of fanboys watch the channel, so they wanted to make sure that the console was introduced there first to get the Xbox fans that have felt downtrodden the past four years to pay MS another $500 to make their tears go away. I'm not sure how they even got brought up in the conversation since they're not the ones spreading rumors about Microsoft acquisitions.

Then why did they go to Digital Foundry then. I mean you would think they would go to Polygon for that free mouth service like this fanboy thought. No you fanboys make shit up and this is just made up shit again. Like Alex Jones level made up shit.

Damnit man, you said:

So why did Microsoft select Digital Foundry instead of Polygon to talk about the Xbox One X the first time? You said that if Microsoft wanted someone to talk about a product for free advertisement that is the site they would call on. I just proved you wrong and they didn't and used Digital Foundry to release Xbox One X hardware stats.
So please STFU, I am done with you. Don't you have a tin foil hat to make or something?

Why the hell would they go to Polygon to talk about the specs of the Xbox One X? They're not a tech site or even a site that compares game performance. Man, you're a weirdo. I talk about Polygon's notorious Microsoft connection, and you bring up DF and the Xbox One X. Two things that didn't even really have shit to do with each other.
Actually I would be sort of shocked if this turned out to be true. At the end of the day however it doesn't really matter.
While it is nice to have a collection of six hundred games on Steam, I am not going to keep buying steam games if anyone buys Valve and makes unwelcome changes to Steam. That would be silly. After about six months I would be surprised if I launched Steam twice a year.
The relationship a PC gamer has with Steam is a lot like the relationship a lot of gamers have with their PS2. I freaking love my PS2, it is still the best console to date. That doesn't mean I am going to ever buy a PS2 game again. Once it stopped being the best source for awesome games it turned into a shrine I worship at on special occasions.
