I knew they wouldn’t buy them out but hopefully these rumors give Microsoft the idea to partner with valve to get steam on Xbox. It makes too much sense to me since steam is already built for windows and xbone now uses windows 10. Talk about exclusives to brag about. Xbox would be kinds. Hell, I would probably even buy one and I have a gaming pc in my living room for couch play.

So Polygon wasn't funded on MS money? Former reviews editor Arthur Gies wasn't a huge Xbox fan who didn't exactly hide his disdain for Sony? Ben Kuchera doesn't write Xboxrah-raheditorial pieces? I mean, if I were Phil Spencer, and I needed a talk piece for my product for free advertisement, that's definitely the site to call on.

So that is why they went to Digital Foundry to release the Xbox One X hardware news? So now if anyone has anything good to say about Microsoft they are either on the payroll or just Microsoft fanboys? WTF is wrong with you fanboys anymore. I give up, go put your tin foil hat on.

DF aren't fanboys, but they went to DF to do their promotional work for them. They know a lot of fanboys watch the channel, so they wanted to make sure that the console was introduced there first to get the Xbox fans that have felt downtrodden the past four years to pay MS another $500 to make their tears go away. I'm not sure how they even got brought up in the conversation since they're not the ones spreading rumors about Microsoft acquisitions.

Damnit man, you said:

I mean, if I were Phil Spencer, and I needed a talk piece for my product for free advertisement, that's definitely the site to call on.

So why did Microsoft select Digital Foundry instead of Polygon to talk about the Xbox One X the first time? You said that if Microsoft wanted someone to talk about a product for free advertisement that is the site they would call on. I just proved you wrong and they didn't and used Digital Foundry to release Xbox One X hardware stats.

So please STFU, I am done with you. Don't you have a tin foil hat to make or something?

Why the hell would they go to Polygon to talk about the specs of the Xbox One X? They're not a tech site or even a site that compares game performance. Man, you're a weirdo. I talk about Polygon's notorious Microsoft connection, and you bring up DF and the Xbox One X. Two things that didn't even really have shit to do with each other.

Hey again you said, not me:

I mean, if I were Phil Spencer, and I needed a talk piece for my product for free advertisement, that's definitely the site to call on.

Microsoft didn't, I was just discrediting your bullshit. You said if you were Phil you would use Polygon, well there last big announcement they didn't which means maybe they are not tied to Polygon as you claim. Again Alex Jones level bullshit.

Bring Steam to Xbox, bring Xbox store games to steam.

Seems simple, I hope they are in talks.

So you use a complete non-sequitur to try to discount what I said to try to disprove something that I had actually backed up? DF showing off Xbox One X capability and Polygon saying they heard a rumor from "some dude who's like TOTALLY close to Microsoft" aren't in the same ballpark. But, since the heat's cooled off from X1X, what else to put the spotlight on Microsoft again but to announce "acquisition talks" in a random line from an editorial about MS needing exclusives from an unquantifiable source.

No other site has heard, or can confirm such talks. It's only Polygon, a confirmed pro-MS outlet that was bankrolled by the company itself that's even putting this info out there. And it's spreading like wildfire, giving hope to a distraught Xbox community who's watched every attempt by MS to regain ground in the console market burn up before their eyes. Putting out rumors that MS will buy a major publisher will sell consoles even better than putting out a stronger version of the same system. Because people will pick up a box if they start believing exclusives will disappear from PS4 only to appear on Xbox. Doesn't matter if it pans out to be true or not.

...and why would people be happy? Have you used Windows Store or UWP recently on PC, it's completely shit.

I don't give a shit about Half Life 3. I like Steam just fine the way it is.

Last thing we need is for MS to buy it and completely ruin it like they did with GFWL and Windows Store.

When it was taken off the Sega system right after the Genesis. You don't remember Sega couldn't have any football games with NFL players, teams or anything related. Madden was on the PS1 though. Bottom line, no one here knows anything about what's in the contract or what could or couldn't happen if MS were to buy out EA.

anyone else I'd agree, but if you are familiar with Gabe's responses in the past, you would realize a "not that I am aware of" is the equivalent of a "hell no".

Also, Gabe Newell is a billionaire. He is one of the 100 wealthiest people in the US. Valve and Steam make a crapload of money, as does MS. You wouldn't hear this rumor from Kotaku or Polygon or Gamespot, you'd hear it from Forbes, Wall Street Journal, and so forth.

@lifelessablaze: @quadknight: pretty sure wacking to a cutsom character is far less harmful to gaming than lootboxes are guys. Lets be objective.

In fact, many games are made with that purpose. Nothing wrong with it. It isn't my thing though.

What the **** am I trying to back out of you weasel? The point I'm trying to make is that MS isn't beyond using Polygon as a propaganda rag. No major "neutral" website has written as many "what Xbox can do to combat Sony" pieces as Polygon has. I doubt MS would help a gaming website get off the ground with nearly a million dollars and not expect get their dicks sucked in return.

Yes, Digital Foundry has accepted Microsoft's money for doing a spotlight on Xbox One X (a video they've since delisted BTW), but they're still a neutral platform that will tell their viewers when the console doesn't measure up. Polygon on the other hand is just plain cronyism. The circumstances are different, and you hastily came up with a dumb ass comparison that didn't even fit the convo. DF is not founded on MS money, nor is it populated by shameless Xbox fanboy editors, it's tech analysis.

BTW you thinking this has any truth is laughable buddy. You are just a pathetic fanboy. No one would buy a Xbox because of a rumor that Microsoft is buying EA. Give me a damn break man! My god the false narratives you fanboys create in your damn heads is just laughable!

If enough people get fooled into thinking the only place they can play an NFL football game, FIFA, Battlefront and Battlefield in the future is on Xbox, of course they'll jump on it. Oh, I forget, you're an Xbox gamer. Of course you ignore the fact that exclusives sell consoles.

Oh here you go again creating false narratives, like you fanboys love to do on this forum. Yes, I play games on Xbox One X, PS4 Pro, and a Switch, why is playing games on the Xbox a bad thing btw? How does that make me ignore the fact that exclusives sell consoles. Check my history idiot, I have said multiple times that Microsoft needs to work on exclusives that will help the platform. I have said multiple times that Sony has been doing it right this gen by creating good exclusives. See this is what you get when you constantly make shit up on the Internet folks.

Oh here are a couple of examples of me saying this. Spencer has done a good job with the platform, but the crappy Xbox One reveal and exclusives is why Sony is the current gen leader.

Put your stupid resume away. And stop calling other people fanboys like you're exempting yourself from it. You started this, white-knighting for Polygon like you work there. What I said didn't come out of nowhere, it's a fact that this site is constantly hungry for some kind of Xbox win. As if they were in danger of folding and not a company with a 3/4 trillion dollar market cap. As long as they keep doing Xbox hype pieces (and nearly zero for Sony) and knowing they were funded by MS, they'll always be called into question. That's why these rumors seem like a stunt right up their alley.

Dude, you're crazier than an asylum on fire. And you're the one that says people are wearing tinfoil hats. You have yet to prove me wrong in anything. If you want to prove me wrong, you can start by showing to me you're not a butthurt nerd that gets triggered over Polygon of all places. Oops! There's no debunking that one I guess.

I provided proof that your statement about me was false and you made it up. Which means I did prove you wrong. Damn you are dumb! Keep going on about shit about Polygon being a Microsoft fanboy. Your ass is crazy, seems they give pretty damn good reviews to Sony games.

I am done with you. It is to hard to argue with someone that creates false narratives and bullshit to prove their points. It is rather disgusting to be honest. Ill let you have the last word fanboy you are not worth anymore time.

I don't remember it being on the n64. The license being on the PS1 had nothing to do with a struggling console since they didn't have the licensing rights from the start and lets not forget which console made games like Madden popular. They had another football game with generic teams and no licenses. So again you have no clue what would happen if MS did buy EA.

Well, okay. If I knew Polygon was a sensitive enough subject to make your butt clench hard enough to press nickels... well, I would have brought it up a long time ago because this has been hilarious.

So the point doesn't stand? You know for a fact what the NFL, NBA and NHL will do? The fact the NFL license was removed from the console that made Madden popular should tell you something. You know absolutely shit and that's the point.

You cows crack me up with that predictions making statements as if you know for a fact how the contracts are even structured. I hope MS does buy EA just see you cows cry.

Okay, so the license wasn't taken off a system. The Sega Saturn had Madden. The Sega Dreamcast also had NFL 2k5, which also had the NFL license. EA signed an exclusivity contract with the NFL. I don't recall why Sega and EA had issues with one another on the DreamCast didn't get Madden.

Now, as to what Microsoft would do with EA Sports and the Madden franchise? Just look at how they have handled the equally as large and lucrative franchise, Minecraft. Microsoft has published games on other platforms in the past and this would probably not change with a purchase of EA. What would most likely happen, is a merger of GamesPass and EA Access, which would benefit Microsoft tremendously.

Where does this 'prediction' come from? From a logical look at what would benefit Microsoft the most in the long run. Releasing the games(Madden, FIFA, NBA Live) on multiple platforms would give Microsoft plenty of sales dollars that would be profit; Along with launching the titles first on GamesPass with exclusive content. Doing this would help push gamers into purchasing the Xbox One over the PlayStation 4, imo. It just honestly makes sense from a business standpoint to do it this way if they decided it would be a wise decision business wise to buy EA. Then again, however, I am not a Microsoft employee so I don't know what they will do. My Xbox One has been in my closet for the past 2 months or so as I have no desire to play it. My Switch keeps me happy right now.

If M$ released Madden the same way they released Minecraft, Madden would become a timed exclusive that released on Playstation many months later.

@dotWithShoes: it has been a fever dream among XBox loyalists since the original xbox that MS would swoop in and start buying the megapublishers up in order to essentially dominate the console market. I know, because I used to be one of those.

Youre absolutely right, though. The most likely scenario is that the games would wind up on most/all platforms. It would be tantamount to cancelling the license agreement for the games to do otherwise. The loss in sales/revenue on other platforms would be litigious from the perspective of the licensees.

I remember Nintendo denying the Switch was going to be a hybrid up until them actually revealing it. Not saying I believe MS would pull off an acquisition, but it would certainly make the UWP much stronger for them to integrate PC/Xbox rights sharing. But I feel what MS needs right now is ability to develop exclusives, so don't think Valve will give them much beyond ability to make next Half Life which won't be worth the entire acquisition of Valve to achieve.

In order to make games? maybe? or they already soldout

because they are no longer game developers. they are digital distributor.

Hahaha, and people actually believe that fake news from Polygon?
