I am glad that MS has come out with this device and is helping people with disabilities. However, I agree that the commercial itself is a marketing ploy to generate good will towards MS and bolster their image. So, while helping the kids is coming from a good place.... spending so much money to run an ad like that during a super bowl is MS trying too hard and they are not coming with the purest of intentions with that ad.

So tell me what were the intentions of this ad?

Re-read the bold.

Wait you mean to tell me a company spend a shit ton of money on an ad to promote the company, holy shit that's unheard of WOW mind totally blown.

/sarcasm.

Yeah, it's a pretty cool innovation. One of the few things MS did well this gen.

Let's be real, they are exploiting the children for their own gain with that ad. Like I said, helping the children is good, but running a super bowl ad to announce it to the world with an ulterior motive is not cool.

Fucking hell when did you turn into a SJW?

They also spend millions of dollars to make a controller so disabled people could play, are they not allowed to promote that fact AND promote their company at the same time?

Does Bill Gates run super bowl ads for all his philanthropy efforts? No, because he is humble about it. Those who truly want to help are not doing it for recognition.

That ad is using the children and targeting the themes of emapthy and inspiration in a way to resonate with people to improve consumer sentiment towards MS. I know how this stuff works and I see through the bullshit.

Once again....

Helping kids and disabled people = good

Running ads about it at the super bowl = bad

@lundy86_4: My sister has CP and would cry because she couldn't hold a Sega controller when I was a kid. I love seeing those with disabilities get to play and enjoy what we do.

And there wasn't a dry eye in my apartment when that commercial ended LOL

Maybe Its time people get off their high horses about coming from purest of places. I shit sure am not pure. MS R&D this controller and have no expectation of making a profit on it, and said publicly any of the tech they developed for it is available for Sony or Nintendo to use if they wish. Yeah, they made a commercial to show something good they did. Like we all stay humbly silent about our selfless lives? Spare me.

@cainetao11: Nobody is perfect. However, we are discussing the commercial which was aired during the super bowl. I am not even picking on MS. I would call out any company that ran an ad like that during the super bowl.

Sony's "for the gamers" comes to mind. It isn't the same style of marketing, but it serves the same purpose.

Only in this cesspool known as SW and some of it's most rabid angry 24/7 residence could turn something so good MS is doing into their usual unhinged foaming at the mouth hate. Get a life, seriously.

OT, tip of the hat, good stuff. :)

There is a need for accessible controls, showing a lot of parents that they exist during the super bowl was a great move and I'm sure made a ton of kids happy.

Reminds me when my friends fiance came over and she tried the Wii for the first time. She has only had 1 arm her whole life and what I didnt realize was this was the 1st video game she was able to play. She was moved to tears... it was quite a moment.

Many people actually are. Pay attention: those who reach for the loudspeaker whenever they are "doing for a cause" are probably virtue signaling.

We had threads about this a few months back. Its good stuff. I think MS even free-sourced some of the tech so other gaming conpanies could use it if I remember correctly.

You are correct about this. They are open for other companies to use this tech however they see fit.

Holy shit, @blackballs and @boxrekt got suspended on the same night? Amazing!

I find it strange boxrekt got hit first and all of a sudden, blackballs got hit not long after boxrekt got suspended. Coincident.

Nope it wasn't, and it has been firmly addressed!

To be fair, every company does this type to gain favors and I know this because I work in a Hospital with Teens to Adults. Most Hospitals will also pull this type of goodwill like to gain the public favor, even Publishers like MS will do whatever it takes to get the public on their side and yes, it's shady but at the same time, it's just business so I'm not gonna fault MS because everyone does this.

Yeah, BrolyLegs is fairly amazing. I watched him play a match of SFV against LowTierGod and he whooped his ass. LTG was so salty afterwards he kept calling him Krang during the match.

How else do you tell people with disabilities that there is a controller specially built for them??

Bet you MS will never make back the RD money spent on such a niche product yet here you are trying to judge MS for it.

MS said they would let Sony or Nintendo use the Adaptive Controller and Tech for Free! Why have we not heard a peep from them yet? Mostly because they don't want anyone using something that says Xbox on it on their device.

MS has said they doubt they will ever make any profit from this. This is awesome and as a gamer, if this does not make you happy to see others that normally could not play get the playing field evened out for them and bring some joy to their lives and making them feel a little more normal. You are not a real gamer and are dead inside.
