So, we can all agree X1 is already first place in games, how long before X1 takes first place in sales? :P

Anyhooie what say you?

Just to make clear, this is not Phil saying this, this is the MS CFO at an MS Earnings Presentation so really, not all spin ya know.....

"Microsoft's current-generation console is now "building momentum," according to new comments from Microsoft CFO Amy Hood.

Speaking during Microsoft's latest earnings presentation, Hood said Xbox's strong performance during the last quarter, along with positive buzz at E3, is helping the Xbox One pick up steam.

The Story.

Microsoft: Xbox One "Building Momentum" Thanks to Backwards Compatibility and Exclusives

CFO Amy Hood says strong Xbox results and positive buzz from E3 demonstrate new momentum for the console.

by Eddie Makuch on July 22, 2015

Sony's PlayStation 4 has been regularly outselling the Xbox One, but Microsoft's current-generation console is now "building momentum," according to new comments from Microsoft CFO Amy Hood.

Speaking during Microsoft's latest earnings presentation, Hood said Xbox's strong performance during the last quarter, along with positive buzz at E3, is helping the Xbox One pick up steam.

"This progress, as well as the excitement we generated at E3--with Xbox exclusive gaming content and backwards compatibility--demonstrates the building momentum that exists within the Xbox ecosystem," she said.

Although the PS4 was the top-selling overall console in the United States during June, the Xbox One outsold Sony's console during the week of E3. Xbox One sales during E3 week rose 79 percent year-on-year, which, as Hood said, could be attributed to excitement over Xbox One backwards compatibility.

As far as exclusive games, Microsoft has time and again claimed that it has the "greatest holiday games lineup in Xbox history." Some of company's big exclusive games this year include Halo 5: Guardians, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Forza Motorsport 6, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, Rare Replay, and Fable Legends.

For its part, Sony has openly admitted that its first-party PS4 lineup this year is "a little sparse."

For the quarter ended June 30, combined Xbox One and Xbox 360 sales increased compared to last year, while Microsoft made more money from Xbox Live than it did the year prior. On top of that, first-party game revenue was on the up, thanks in part to the continued success of Minecraft.

Check out this post for a full recap of Microsoft's Xbox performance.

@SecretPolice: A nice excuse to make it seem as if Xbox One has a tight exclusive lineup, no doubt.

I've been pleased with MS's support of the system, however I think they try harder being behind. In that case, I hope they're always humble.

Those aren't exclusives and SONY is current gen 8 console leader with the world's most powerful video game console, the PS4.

I can agree that if anyone has taken effort to turn things around this gen it is MS. After that horrible unveiling and launch they seem to be pulling all the stops to turn the Xbone image around and it is working.

Sony however has taken almost no effort this gen at all other than to point at MS and say "we wont pull that same shit" and everyone flocked to them for some reason.

If its sparse, MS is a barren wasteland this year, thus far then. Guess I'll sell my X1, no games to play according to TC...confirmed.

They will probably get a boost in sales this quarter because of games like halo or tomb raider, but in my opinion ms isnt winning in games per se. I didnt really find their e3 to be amazing like most seemed to even with the backwards compatibility, because its not really true BC, but more like an emulator with the approved games. Until they are able to provide more I dont think they will have a distinguished lead on games

It's hard not to "gain momentum" when you are selling a $500 console for $350. You're going from a standing start to a waddle. That's gaining momentum.

Also, let's learn what exclusive means.

I mean it shouldn't be any surprise to anyone that the X1 would start to pick up in sales after their E3. I would expect for the rest of this year they going to be selling well especially the closer they get to the August when Gears Remastered comes out cause a lot of people will be jumping on that just for the multiplayer. With all that said, they still have an uphill battle to catch up to Sony. Metal Gear and possibly Advertising of Star Wars will drive sales of the PS4 so this will be an interesting holiday.

"Momentum" = losing yet another NPD. Spin it, Amy!

It's an indictment on the Xbone's awful lineup that people are buying Xbones two years after launch to play 360 games rather than that red hot Bone library.

Man , MS has some of the greatest spin doctors in the world.

I really like how they win a week in a month compared to the PS4 , and then win the month by excluding the PS4.

The console with "no games" is beating the Xbone , think for a minute.

But i admit , they are improving.

"XBone 1st in games" = 150 fewer games than the next lowest gen8 console, and gap keeps widening.

"Building momentum" = sales gap widens in NA. Invents new "weekly win" category to coincide with new model delivery, dumps immediately afterwards. Getting crushed WW.

Brutal.

I honestly think Microsoft could care less about Sony. Why? There's a secret battle taking place between Valve and Microsoft.

It's pretty apparent Microsoft is moving closer to PC for a reason-- it doesn't necessarily mean they will kill the Xbox, the brand will become a PC gaming brand in the near future.

I sorta agree and no matter to me, wherever Halo & Forza go, I will follow.

But TBH, I much prefer the ease of use of a console so I hope the Xbox brand sticks around. :P

So they are letting Sony win the console race?

How kind of them , because , let's face it , if MS put effort in the Xbone it will crush the PS4 , right?

It's not new since it was used in the early 90s when Microsoft destroys other PC OS platforms and that's before the original "Xbox".

Microsoft destroyed multiple PC OS in 90s i.e. a "system war" that destroyed an entire industry e.g.

1. defeating Commodore's AmigaOS destroyed an industry built around AmigaOS e.g. 1st and 3rd party hardware vendors, application/game software vendors, skill sets/knowledge base. I f**king wasted my time supporting these losers. This is why I hate PowerPC since they have f**king Motorola and IBM.

2. defeating IBM OS/s destroyed an industry built around IBM OS/2. I f**king wasted my time supporting these losers, hence my hate against IBM.

3. defeating DEC VMX destroyed an industry built around DEC's VMX.

4. defeating Atari TOS (based DEC's GemOS 68K) destroyed an industry built around Atari TOS (based DEC's GemOS 68K).

..

Microsoft's kill count is too large to list.

@Ant_17: Microsoft and Sony are moving different directions. I believe Sony will move to a games streaming company similar to Netflix but for games.

If rumors are true and it becomes a reality and Microsoft buys AMD, the Xbox brand will evolve. I'd imagine Microsoft's next system will be user upgradeable like Steam Machines, and compete with Valve.

There will always be an audience for hardware, I'm sure streaming games will become popular in the near future, which isn't a bad thing, but you'll have more ways to play.

Microsoft has a bigger fish to fry i.e. Apple and Google. These two companies impacts Microsoft's core business.

Valve's Linux deveopment has the potential to affect Microsoft's home desktop PC market i.e. Microsoft must convert every home Windows 7 installs with Microsoft Store, hence free Windows 10 upgrade. Microsoft is attempting to do another IE beating Netscape with the old bundling tactics.

Microsoft's free Windows 10 upgrade tactic is against Google's Play store, Apple's iTunes and to a lesser extent Valve's Steam.

I really don't think backwards compatibility is such a big deal, don't get me wrong, I do think it's nice. But they should stop advertising it like it's gaming breakthrough of the year. The main reason people got Xbox One/PS4 is to play new games. Microsoft should focus on new IPs and exclusives which they are doing yes, but doing there 1st party exclusive [looking at you Gears of War remastered] is not what gamers want these days, new IPs. I for one didn't bitch about lack of BC for both consoles and I always keep my old consoles for future gameplays anyways.

The ppoint is being able to play your 360 games, or better yet, get 360 games for free with purchase of an xbox one or an xbox one game like FO4 and getting FO3.

I brough that theory and people laugh,i think MS recent love for PC gamers, and movement to have more and more of its xbox exclusive on PC could mean that they are getting ready to axe the brand next gen or sell it,and move their games to PC where all be profits instead of loses...

Well before people start saying anything Xbox One was up (and has continued to be up) YOY, but for the last quarter it was a decent place ahead.

This will be even more so since last year they had nothing to go on, but soon within a couple weeks Xbox one will be gaing even more momentum earlier this year as it has games coming in starting august.

Any forum you go will tag those games as multi because you don't need a freaking xbox one to play them, there is no real incentive worse on PC those are free to play online on xbox one they are on inferior form and are $60 just like the PS4 as well is $50 to play online.

What you say is so bullshit that MS has keep most of its console games out of windows, and has keep policies like mods, cross platform play mouse and keyboard support out of the xbox,it is now that they are pushing because again they are losing badly.

Yes they have a huge list but also some painful defeat, like the xbox brand has been since the off shot.

The Zune vs the Ipod, windows mobile vs Android,Bing vs google.
