The fact is, yes it can. It can be the same quality as BR, because as long as it's VC-1 or MPEG4, it's the same data. I think BR is great as well, but again, it's not the be-all/end-all like some of the cows here try to make us believe.

As far as a download service is concerned it is the best out there. Everyone is watching MS because they have made money off of their service for the studios.

I don't want to own every blu ray or hd dvd movie. and renting them is great considering most of the movies are not worth owning. I love the service, the HD looks great on my plasma and I no longer go to the video store.

Digital Distribution will be the future for movies and MS will be leading the way. The competition will come next year when sony has their very own. This will be great for us the consumers because the quality of the services will increase.

Though it's very possible MS will spearhead Digital Distribution, so far the nod goes to Apple. Either way, in my opinion, I like packaging. I like to look at my collection. It's much more fun than just having 1's and 0's on a hard drive. So I personally don't like Digital Distribution, but I know it's the way the industry is headed.

Its a lot more economical to get Netflix and rent Blu-ray or HD-DVD. I got one movie for download and that was Employee of the Month in 720p. My TV doesn't support 720p and the film seemed really dark. I noticed its letting me keep it until June for some reason. Even though I watched it all except the credits. Maybe that's some kind of loophole. I got to erase it anyway because its eating up space. By the way its not a very good movie.

such a nice selection of hd movies on xbl, you rent it for the same price as you would a blockbuster or cable papperview, in my oppinion this beats having to buy a blueray player and then buying movies, or even renting movies. its like an ondemand service but with hd content, its a miracle for people who dont have or can get cable or on demand services. You order a movie, it buffers the download for about 10 mins and then you can start watching, all in widescreen hd

Vadrick

Whats so cool about that? I dl free dvd rips of movies in the theaters for free.

Please tell me you aren't serious. Link me one HD movie torrent file and I will retract my statement that you are incompetent. The HD movies from XBL are HD, not a compressed 750 MB file or even a compressed 4.87 GB (down from DL 8.5 GB) or even a compressed 8.5 GB file, down from uncompressed HD files. So please, stop saying the things you illegally dl off the internet are better than those that are legal and real.

Noob!!!!

Casino Royale - Blu Ray - 44.05gb

Xmen 3 - Blu Ray - 23.56gb

Terminator 2 - Blu Ray - 22.78gb

I could go on but I wont

I could also link but I feel that the powers that be wouldnt be amused....on both sites :-P

The movies that you download are no where near the quality of when you buy it and if you are downloading it and it takes up a whole 44.05 gb you may get the same quality but that really eats into harddrive space.

Noobcake!!!!

Y dont you stop posting about something you clearly know nothing about

Um theres not anything there that untrue would you like to explain the fact is you cant downlaod the quality of HD/BR on your pc sorry its a fact I know your a little bitter you dont have access to a BR or HD player on your pc but if you go pirate some more movies and then watch a Br movie through an HDMI cable come tell me which is better nub.

Oh wow, you better stop now, bud. You do know what HD/DVD and Blu-Ray are right? They are simply a larger medium to carry all that uncompressed data. The only reason you would need a Blu-Ray player would be to play those discs, not the movies they carry. And HDMI is largely a copy-protection scheme, nothing more.

You are serioulsy clueless they are a larger medium to store movies in 1080p that is simply not possible on a DVD-9 you cant hold 2 hours worth of film in 1080p quality no matter how you compress it the max a DVD can hold on 9gb is about 3 hours worth of film. And no HDMI isnt just copyright protection that is some of the purose yes it also devlievers superior video and audio quality over VGA or component cables so stop acting like everything is a gimmick .

When did I mention DVD? I said I could download them on my PC just fine because it's just data. It's just more data than a DVD can handle, hence the HD-DVD/BluRay discs. HDMI does offer a very slight upgrade in video quality, but it's not even noticeable on monitors under 40-50 inches. It's real purpose is HDCP, the new copy-protection scheme. Corporate media publishers are wanting to get rid of the "analog hole". Which is fine by me, really. I like how HDMI puts audio and video in one cable, and I don't pirate, so it's all good. But the way some people think it's this huge revolution in A/V is laughable.

No but you were defending the hermit who says" I can just get teh downloaded hd movie on teh pc" Fact is you can do that and its still not going to be quite the same quality as BR or HD-DVD and its going to take up a ton of Harddrive space. No BR isnt a revolution but is a nice peace of technology and I think it will work well for games as time goes on.

I aint no hermit bud but I can get teh freebies!!!!!!!

This all started when some dude said you CANT dl HD movies via bittorrent.  Yes you can...full stop.  I cant provide links as they wouldnt work for ppl who arent members of said sites.  And besides I wouldnt want to as its against the rules of this site and the "other" sites.  Is the quality the same???  Dunno really but its so minor of a difference are we gonna argue between a few pixels or £££££.

Whether I can watch em, burn em, sit on em, eat em, drink em or screw em is irrelevant.  The post I responded to was you cant DL HD movies via bittorrent.  Yes you can and anyone that says you cant is a NOOOOOOB!!!!!!

[QUOTE="-EFG-"]Are the movies of HD-DVD or Blu-Ray quality?seabiscuit8686

Yes, that is why it is worth it. You can watch them without purchasing the HDDVD addon (for those of us waiting for a BlueRay/HDDVD multidrive)

No, the movies are not even in 1080p.

Wow people are really hostile about this. I love watching Blu-Ray but not enough to defend it against a bunch of rabid fanboys. I also utilize the XBOX Movie download it's great if I don't want to go to the videostore. The Blu_Rays do 1080p which the download movies do not so quality wise yes Blu Ray FTW for my needs at least.Khansoul

You may speak the truth in the fact that the downloaded movies from XBL wont be in 1080p but the blue ray will, but what percentage of the population has a 52inch or greater 1080p tv (all experts say that 1080p below 52 inches is a gimick considering the resolution of 720p is not tested until that size and there is no difference between 720 p and 1080p until after that size). So unless you have a 1080p tv over 52 inches that you are watching blue ray on, you will see no difference between the content in 720p and 1080p

won't this hurt sales of HDDVD, I suppose their sales aren't doing so well but won't this just make it worse. This is much more of a fan service on MS part. Maybe they believe once you pay 2-3 dollars for a HD movie you'll be more willing to pay 20-30 dollars for a hard copy of a HDDVD. I'd really like to know whats their strategy.MorisUkunRasik

If you subtract sales of the ps3, hddvd stand alone players are selling at a rate of 7:1 STILL vs blue ray stand alone. The only reason so many blue ray players are sold is because of the flood of PS3s, and most PS3 users are not using the blue ray player (look at software sales of blue rays vs players sold)

Good point. Most tv owners are non hd for one. Secondly, the  overwhelmingly majority of hd tv owners are 1080i and 720p. But for whatever reason people chiise to forget that point.

PM me...with a site that has a significant amount of seeds with a HD movie (not tv show like lost). Because you cannot do this, your entire claim, along with any kind of credibility, has been screwed over. Also, why don't you enlighten me how you download a 40 GB torrent file with probably what, 10 total seeds if that, in less than a month. You are completly incompetent and go around calling others noobs. Wow, if you had half a brain you would realize that you are talking gibberish. I am on a T3 internet connection and can dl a 5 GB movie file in 3 hours, that is 24 hours for 40 GB IF you have seeds...which im sure you dont

Exactly and the people who are up in arms and complaining "I have 1080p yay" generally have a TV less than 52 inches and by bragging about having 1080p are actually bragging about how they got scammed and actually payed for a gimmick so good job

Meh, I don't really care for the 360 movie service. First of all, I only have crappy DSL, which means an hd movie would take basically a day to download. Secondly, I already have Netflix, which gives me movies for a lower price and has a wider selection. I mean, Netflix has over 75,000 dvd's to choose from while the xbox service has... a lot less.

Casion royale was still the first disk on a new format to be in the top10 of movies sold meaning yes BR is becoming a valuable medium for the most part HD-DVD is dead.

[QUOTE="MorisUkunRasik"]won't this hurt sales of HDDVD, I suppose their sales aren't doing so well but won't this just make it worse. This is much more of a fan service on MS part. Maybe they believe once you pay 2-3 dollars for a HD movie you'll be more willing to pay 20-30 dollars for a hard copy of a HDDVD. I'd really like to know whats their strategy.Vadrick

Casion royale was still the first disk on a new format to be in the top10 of movies sold meaning yes BR is becoming a valuable medium for the most part HD-DVD is dead.

Casino Royale 2-disc DVD edition is now #3. :) Casino Royale BluRay edition is now #72. :( BluRay has a looooooooooooooong way to go.

Vadrick
Firstly, it is WIDELY known that there are HD movies and TV shows on many torrent sites. It is the reason why MPAA are cracking down on people downloading copies. People who do not even know about them obviously are not in-tune with technology. Secondly, people who says Xbox movies downloads are higher quality and only takes 10 minutes to buffer are contradicting themselves. To say that a stream is better quality than a 40GB file is simply absurd. It will take MUCH longer than 10 minutes to buffer movies that contains the same resolution as a 40GB file. Let's do some math: Assume the average connection to be 200KB/s or ~0.2MB/s. 40GB = ~40000MB. To download 40000MB, you need 200000 seconds, or 3333 minutes, or 55 hours. Either the movie download is of much lower quality, or it takes WAY longer than 10 minutes to buffer.

First and foremost, you are assuming these movies to be 40 GB. WHere are you getting that figure, from the blue ray fan up above saying CR is 40 GB? Thats a blue ray disc with extras. The file on XBL is about 8 GB, making it easier to stream. And yes, we all know that that is significantly less than the 40 GB but that is only because there are no extras and the fact that it is in 720p not 1080p, which has already been discussed

EDIT: MPAA cracking down is simply because they are money grubbers. We all know that. Just look at the kid who was 16 who came up with the "chickennoodle soup dance" song...and then sold it to a recording company for 6 million dollars...like the artists always say, they are very very underpaid. Also, remember a few years back when actors almost went on strike because 8-40 million dollars per movie wasnt enough. I do. And that defines the industry in my mind. I think one thing badass and I can agree with is that the MPAA is an absolute joke and that DL will get you caught about as often as you get struck by lightning.

[QUOTE="Oemenia"][QUOTE="badassriddick"][QUOTE="seabiscuit8686"]

badassriddick...

I am on a T3 internet connection and can dl a 5 GB movie file in 3 hours, that is 24 hours for 40 GB IF you have seeds...which im sure you dont

badassriddick

Listen mate I AINT and I repeat AINT gonna give you links. I value my membership to said sites. You cry incompentence when all I did was say u were wrong (remember it was YOU that said dl HD content was not possible yet you crave links...tut ut....me smell tah pirate wannabe). You yatter on about seeds and download times....public trackers suck dont they  BUT THIS IS NOT ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOUR CLAIM NOOB. I can but am unwilling to prove you wrong noob.

How am I talking gibberish noob??? I mereley claimed that u COULD dl HD files....which u CAN!!!!!! DUH!!!!

Then you and the noobites came in waving teh pirate banners claiming all sorts and making yourselves look like jackasses.

I DONT CARE how big your pipe is cos it has NOTHING to do with your original claim noob.

The fact is......

HD CONTENT IS AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD WHETHER YOU OR THE NOOB B I WANNA ADMIT IT OR NOT!!!!!!!!!

Hes asking for proof which you are doging and laughing about it like a madman =

I merely said he was wrong. Maybe he should provide some links proving he's right

I am not wrong. Look at two of the most popular sites for casino royale (thepir*&%#@.org and iso&*$(.com...you should know what they are and anyone who knows, but no one else so I think im fine doing that right?) Anyways, there are no HD versions of that movie. There are plenty of the last episode of lost, but that has been well known for sometime. Also, there are a few chinese versions of some 20+ GB versions of a couple movies on the second site I listed, but there are less than 10 seeds per, so based on those two sites, both being some of the most popular on the net, I can safely say I am not lying and that HD movies are NOT available on the net (in realistic fashion). Im sure you can find crap like that on IRC but thats a whole different issue

Are the movies of HD-DVD or Blu-Ray quality?-EFG-

Yep, they are HD.

http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/home-entertainment/hd-dvd-vs-xbox-live-marketplace-why-theres-no-big-difference-222337.php

The black levels aren't as deep, and there is some more noise in the picture I can imagine, but overall unless you got a full HD setup it'll be fine.

If you do have a pre-amp stereo system plus the TV to match it, I'm sure you can afford a stand alone HD-DVD and blu-ray player with full HDMI support anyway...

40GB??? WTF?? Divide that by ten, and you'd get close to the average HD movie size on Xbox Live. Hell, the average movie size on BluRay is only 10-15GB, unless you're talking about MPEG-2 movies, and even those don't exceed 25GB. Video files are only 40GB if they are uncompressed MPEG-1. I should know; I handle those files every day. (Superman HD was a 100GB uncompressed 1080p MPEG-1 raw mezzanine video file.)
