All of sony's biggest multiplayer franchises have now been released on ps3 and none have become what sony hoped. Here's a list: Resistance, Killzone, MAG, Socom, Haze, even Uncharted couldn't stand against microsoft's best multiplayer games. Killzone, Sony's biggest ace in the hole has kicked the bucket with only 250 players on at one time.

after all these games have released, what else is there for sony? will they still release bucket loads of shooters in the hope that one of them will become a successful franchise or will they finally accept that their studios are better suited for single player games. unfortunately for them, single player games don't cut it anymore which is evident in their sales. Anything on sony's console is only worth a rent.

If I'm able to get on playstation network and find a match for a game within a reasonable amount of time, I don't care.

Why does it need to be first party? And why exactly does it need multiplayer?

I heard Heavy Rain's selling well despite being a SP only game and no you don't need Halo/Gears/GT/WoW numbers to "cut it"

Your last sentence is a huge generalization.

I can see where you are coming at, but IMO Modnation Racers has a shot at it, LBP did a number as well.

A online game doesn't need WoW or Halo numbers to be succesfull. Sony didn't release any real "system seller" i.e. Sonic for Sega or Halo for MS yet, but it already has a solid library (IMO). GT5 and GOW3 will change that.

I think an important reason also is that MS tries to get as much Gold members as possible, therefore they wanted a strong multiplayer focus in games right from the start. PSN doesn't not have a profit incentive. Sony doesn't aim for the most people online, but simply the most game sales.

even the worst multiplayer games "did well for a few months" so that's not really impressive and mag won't last till the end of the month. even some ps3 fanboys will admit that they were disappointed with resistance 2 and killzone 2 doesn't even have enough people playing it to fill 1 game of MAG lol.

well no they don't suck but I don't think that they are worth $60 in comparison to other games like halo 3 which has unlimited replayability.

Yeah LBP, R2, Killzone 2, Uncharted 2 are all bad multiplayer games, but I guess I shouldn't expect anything less from a person with a Natal avatar.

What are you smoking, 250 players only?!?!?

Do you even own a PS3? Have you even played Killzone or any of the game you mentioned.

Resistance wasn't even about the online.

Killzone is stil living it up.

MAG is doing alot better then every one thinks it is.

Can you really have a say in any of this?

All Sonys exclusives have decent communities online, i have never got online on any of those games and not found a game to join within a few minutes. You dont have to have millions of people on daily to be successful.

It has not evolved much since 1996 or so. The graphics are better and they added online. That's about it.

And Halo? ha, first one to the rockets wins :)

I'd like you to play Killzone and say that again

yup....well rite now there is "Confrontation Online Players: 8653". confrontation was the only game i played when i had a ps3.

socom 1,2,3 had around 50,000 ppl online on any givin day. if socom 4 done rite, it will regain its popularity. confrontation isnt a true socom game because it wasnt made by the original devs

Lol this guy says 250 people on killzone 2.

I was on Socom before my ps3 died. Their lobbies contain 256 people for each gaming lobby. On a thursday night 20 of those rooms were filled up. Socom does

have a big fanbase.

No, i doubt any EXCLUSIVE fps will sell more than halo this year.halo attracts all 360 players. 10 players off of my ps3 list bought uncharted 2.3 of them borrowed it. Yeah and i have close to 100 friends..

Or conversely one could use the argument that the single player campaigns are so short and boring in those games that people are forced to play online to get any form of real entertainment. It's easy to have better and dynamic AI when it's player controlled instead of being a bot.

I mean the TC said himself, "The Sony studios are best at single player games." Using deductive reasoning I can infer that the only reason to buy 360 games is to continually play the multiplayer and nothing else.

MP is fun, but it's not the only thing.

I'm with you Parasomniac.

I think thanks to MP developers have gotten lazy on the single players.

This is what I'm saying. If you're happy with mostly MP, good for you. That's less the work the devs have to do programming AI. Just make controls and several maps and send people off to be trigger happy.

I hate people that buy a game and go straight to the multiplayer without touching the SP. I was playing on Uncharted 2 with a guy that was a Level 50 about 2 weeks after the game came out. I just ask, "Dude, did you even PLAY the through the single player story?" He just goes, "No. I actually played the demo and bought it for the MP." That's just sad to me. A great MP should be a welcome addition to a single player campaign without making it an afterthought.

I still haven't played BC2 online (aside from the beta and demo) since I was playing through the campaign. I told my former roommate that it was really good and he should try it. An hour or two later I get the message "Campaign is boring."

I just hope people like this aren't responsible for the amount of effort put into games in the future.

Rather than debate the importance of single player and multiplayer, I would rather have the option to play both. On 360, you can play some of the best multiplayer games of the generation like Halo 3 and excellent single player games like Alan Wake and Splinter Cell. PS3 offers excellent single player games but it's most touted fps has 0 players online. maybe fanboys should go play killzone instead of comparing it to every 360 exclusive.

[QUOTE="Parasomniac"]Sony have their priorities right. They create epic single player games and let Microsoft babysit all the 12 years olds with twitch multiplayer games.devilsoultaker2

Only noobs play single player games all the time, hardcore gamers play both SP and MP

Traditionally, the only 'hardcore' games that have ever existed have all been single-player games...

You know how we could settle this? As an avid PS3 user you can take a picture of Killzone's lobby with today's date. But then again you probably didn't buy Killzone 2 ROFL.

LOL !!

1. Killzone has wwwwwway more than 250 players on at one time there are 1222 logged in players according to KZ.COM

2. Haze isn't a Sony Franchise, it was a miserbable peice o shyt

3. Modern Warfare 2 is the best multiplayer game on 360 and PS3 so there is no point in saying otherwise.

Lol this guy says 250 people on killzone 2.

I was on Socom before my ps3 died. Their lobbies contain 256 people for each gaming lobby. On a thursday night 20 of those rooms were filled up. Socom does

have a big fanbase.

No, i doubt any EXCLUSIVE fps will sell more than halo this year. But just because halo attracts all 360 players. 10 players off of my ps3 list bought uncharted 2.

3 of them borrowed it. Yeah and i have close to 100 friends..

Go to killzone.com and look at the four boxes in the middle of the home page. Right now there are 0 players and 0 games total. Killzone 2 is dead.

I will bet you right now when i pop KZ2 in there are at least 1000 people playing.

Wow, GameSpot must not have been paying attention then. Apparently they gave Best Multiplayer Game and Best Shooter to a game nobody plays!

What is the point of this post? why don't you go to the website and check for yourself rather than mock my comment?

Umm, I checked the site before I posted that, sir. Your numbers were not correct. They keep changing. Either the site's gliched or people are hopping on and jumping off a lot.

1. yes it does say 1222 logged in players but it also says 0 total players and 0 active games.

2. Haze is a ps3 exclusive that was hyped by cows.

3. modern warfare 2 might be the best multiplayer game on ps3 but not 360.
