[QUOTE="bobbetybob"][QUOTE="enterawesome"]I myself was a bit disturbed by the video. I know people will say "Oh, it's a video game, not real!", but wow. The way the civilians reacted to the terrorists (or you, the player, I should say) is very realistic and the graphics themselves are excellent, it's uncomfortably similar to genuine manslaughter of hundreds of innocent civilians. I don't know how that benefits story at all, I don't see why IW couldn't have put you in the shoes of a civilian instead, and watched as terrorists killed you and hundreds of others, including perhaps your family and friends. It would have been much more powerful and would have triggered a real emotional response, but doing it in MW2 for pure entertainment? That's creepy.Zero_epyon
They already did that in the first one =p

Right. Spoilers follow: The opening credits u get dragged and driven to a palace to get shot in the head by a terrorist. Then you get blown up by a nuke and all of the marines die, except Griggs.

Willing to bet that the main villain in MW2 also executes our hapless prologue character with a desert eagle as well.

I don't know who kills who but I do know it'll involve a desert eagle somehow.

anyone who is disturbed better also be disturbed about every single WW2 game and Vietnam etc. Else you're an huge massive hypocrite.fatzebra
not at all, i spent 6 years in the army, and it does disturb me, you don't play the bad guys in any ww2 or vitnam war game unless you choose too, but the enemy in those games are legitimate enemy soldiers from a legitimate army, and it's history, the bad guys in MW2 are terrorists, and our brave lads are fighting these people as we type, different ballgame, i have a lot of mates serving in afghan and iraq, i will never play the part of a terrorist, these are nasty evil men full of hate, for the same reason i don't play GTA4,good job i wasn't getting this game anyway

[QUOTE="AAllxxjjnn"][QUOTE="ogvampire"]

i must have missed the memo....

whats this controversy all about?

ogvampire

One of the missions in MW2 has you playing through the eyes of a terrorist moving through an airport shooting unarmed civilians.

ahhhh. thanks.....

hm... i kill civilians in GTA4 all the time. i dont see a problem...

You see though, you aren't doing it for a purpose... This will obviously change for MW2. You see in GTA yes you can be an utter psychopath, but it doesn't get taken seriously unless it's part of the plot; when you are given the choice to push a ganger off a roof just because somebody gave you 500 notes to do it, or maybe let him go. In MW1 you see somebody get executed from their perspective and it is slightly unsettling, how do you think being the executioner will change things? The illusion of choice and consequence is what unsettles the target audience. IW obviously understand this.

I am, it is extremely insensitive to people affected by terrorism. They did it PURELY for the attention, it's quite disgusting. One more reason not to buy this game.

It depends on perspective. I see it that there is no bad or good guys in a war, baring to mind that a terrorist and an insurgent are two very different but not mutually exclusive things; you will find that "our lads" are fighting mostly insurgents and some insurgents who are also terrorists. The guys who will be doing the slaughtering I dare say think they are right. Letting the player partake in that act of terrorism puts them in somebody elses shoes - an effective story telling method if only because it's controversial, it makes the player consider the innocent casualties/why they are actually shooting in the first place.

I'm sorry the world is not all about roses and violets. It has a dark side called reality. If you're disturbed then stay away from the game!

this is really interesting and a really nice addition , its nice to see so much detail put into the story, I still think the Campaign in COD4 was the best ever in a FPS

Oh, I thought he was referring to the part where I ranted on about playing as a terrorist, never mind.

Nope. What I don't get is all these people crying foul, why don't they go post threads in off-topic about ACTUAL issues? You know, like mass killings of groups of people that are actually happening today. You know, focus on the things that actually matter...

I'm not a fan of IW and Activision and wont be buying MW2, but I do think this is a little ridiculous. I can understand complaining about gameplay issues, but now people are just looking for anything.

Kind of...but I feel this way about every game that involves a human-esque AI that I have to kill. Which is why I usually avoid certain games. (Not a fan of GTA or COD). I don't have a problem killing humanoids though. My favorite games are shooters(Sci-fi) and Racing games.

It's an M-rated video game where you kill people. This time, you just happen to be the terrorist for a level. There are far more disturbing things the that.

Wow! The results of this poll is both disturbing and comforting in some levels. It is comforting that gamers are in general just plain insensitive to anything not just black issues(RE fiasco) and it is disturbing that gamers in general are just plain freaking insensitive.
