My biggest mistake this gen was buying a Wii.

The Wii is fully capable of playing DVDs as of right now.In terms of the system itself,it's just a matter of "unlocking" it via a firmware update.It shouldn't cost much extra,if anything,although considering my very limited knowledge of the business world,I'm sure there are some other fees and costs Nintendo has to pay before they can do so.

I'd have to agree. Out of ALL the console's i've owned, the Wii si the only one which has almostnothing I'm interested in.

Apart from the odd Zelda game it offers nothing to me.

I can't even play DVD's on it :( It DOES charge my PS3 controllers well though :)

About to get out of HS, hype hearing how awesome the Wii is and going to be by Nintendo, all the promises, the console that never sleeps, content over night, the epicness, I couldnt wait. Got my first job and blew 250+ tax on the Wii. Played it, was a blast with the family and friends. Fast forward 3 months later, I bought two games for it, Blackhand edition Godfather and Madden. Fun, but I wanted more, so I bought the heavy hitter Zelda. Bored after a week. Took a break from wii while I waited for SSBB. Pre-Order, hearing how awesome its going to be. Played for 2 months, got bored with it.

The fun factor is there, it's just that most of it is in niche genres and indie games. The Wii is a secondary console and hands down, the best console for local multiplayer.hiphops_savior

That's debatable. I'd take local Halo multiplayer over anything the Wii has. All those wii sports and wii play games are extremely generic and boring.

I wouldn't call Halo badass but it is pretty fun. Not really hyper generic either.

The Wii covers both end of the gaming spectrum very well but leaves a huge gap in the middle. It has tons of casual, family-friendly games where anyone can have fun (i.e. Mario Kart Wii, Wii Sports, Boom Blox Bash Revolution, Carnival Games, New Super Mario Bros. etc.) and it also satisfies the uber-hardcore with innovative or niche games (i.e. de Blob, Zack & Wiki, Madworld, No More Heroes, Fire Emblem, Muramasa, A Boy and his Blob, Deadly Creatures, etc.) and it even has the Virtual Console for retro gamers who also tend to be hardcore HOWEVER it doesn't have the big eye-candy filled multiplayer shooters, action games, epic RPG's that the typical gaming demographic (males ages 12-30) crave (i.e. Call of Duty, GTA IV, Uncharted 2, Halo, Assassin's Creed).

Me personally, my favorite games are those big core games such as Uncharted 2, Assassin's Creed 2, etc. but I also do enjoy a quirky cool indie-feeling game like Madworld or Muramasa, or No More Heroes and I also enjoy playing Retro games (original Ninja Gaiden, Super Metroid, Phantasy Star IV, Streets of Rage 2, Sonic Games, Mario Games) so I am happy with my Wii. Not to mention that I am big on social gaming and playing together with friends and family.

To tell you the truth, even though I play my PS3 more and the Wii is my secondary system, if I could only have 1 it would be the Wii because it satisfies the hardcore gamer, the retro gamer, and the social gamer while my PS3 for the most part is the system only fills one of those needs.

Regarding the earlier point about "outdated 1999 technology" making the Wii seem last generation,it's not the matter of it being old technology,but rather,it's such a basic feature in consoles now,to not have seems utterly archaic,since it's a standard,expected feature.It's a similar argument with the issue of backwards compatibility with the PS3.

And tell me,why shouldn't the Wii have a DVD player?If the Wii had a DVD player,would it be detrimental to your gaming experience?

Nobody gives a **** Wii doesn't have a DVD drive, it's outdated and everybody has one, computers have them, DVD players of course have them, and everybody with a Wii, I garuntee, has one of those. Do you unplug you Wii to hook up your computer to watch DVDs? Probably not. It would have been more expensive, and it's a GAME system, not a multimedia entertainment center, like the PS3. If nobody cared for it,we wouldn't be debating about it.;) Heck,aren't DVDs still used a lot today?Sure,there's Blu-Ray and digital downloads,but they're still pretty popular.

Oh,and since it's so outdated,would it really have been more expensive?Arguably,the system is already overpriced as it is; surely,they could have kept the system the same price,right?I'm making a few assumptions here,but the point stands.
