1080p is fine. Only thing I'm asking for is a steady 60 FPS. I can still forgive 30 FPS though, depending on the game.

I know I own Just Cause 3 with over 300hrs on it, but I can still have fun even when the game drops frames, did it bother me to begin with, sure but it's not the end of the world.
I also have a shit ton of hours of Forza Horizon 3, the game is soooooo much fun and only 30fps.
PC guys make way too much of a deal over this sort of stuff, I just enjoy my games. I can't even tell you what resolution or how many fps 99% of the games I play are running at, the only time I see that stuff is when muppets put DF videos on SW.
Funny cause I returned Just Cause 3 because it ran like dog shit.
You guys are nuts.... :P
Demand better video games, not just performance. 60fps isn't better when the genre is tired and lacking fresh ideas.
Yup. Pretty much this right here. Who cares about framerate and resolution if you keep getting the same stencil traced carbon copies of games. I'm more about the actual games than all of that other crap. How do you think old school games and indies do really well sometimes. It ain't cuz of fps, that's for sure. It's the game lol

Well I use it as my stress ball of sorts. After working for 10hrs+ a day with some stupid people I use it to blow shit up and it relaxes me, and tethering 6 cars together and blowing them up never gets old. If it ran like crap for you and you returned it then that's all good. All i'm saying is that people can enjoy games that aren't 60fps or 1080p etc.
I have NEVER put a game in my console and wondered what it was running at, I more concerned on the fun factor above all else.
More power to everyone who wants the highest resolution/frames, but to me there is no standard that we should adhere to other than our enjoyment of it :)
LMAO but this is exactly what some of us said about 900p upscaled to 1080p. Rememeber when every cow here could tell the difference within 30 seconds? Amazing how resolution doesn't matter anymore.

That's alright. I am a big proponent of "vote with your wallet" myself. I am of the opinion that what I purchase has an impact on the industry and it does, every purchase counts. As a result I refuse to support games that run terribly as it sets a dangerous precedent The one that a subpar product is acceptable. I don't doubt Just Cause 3 is fun but I'm not gonna support a game with such shoddy performance. In the same way that I don't support games like COD or Assassin's Creed any more. If you don't mind bad performance and can enjoy the games despite that, then great for you but just keep in mind you're basically telling developers anything is acceptable even if it runs terribly as long as you have fun.
With all the hype over 4K, the other graphical assets are often overlooked. It should be about resolution AND settings. 1080p looks amazing when paired with high textures, details, water effects, foliage, particles, and so forth. That's not to say resolution doesn't matter at all, too low and all the fidelity in the assets gets lost. I'm pretty sure most would agree 1080 is the min threshold for good picture clarity. Of course if you can run a game well in 1440 or 4K, more power to you.
I'd rather game in optimal 1080 with better performance than 4K with sub-optimal settings of Med or lower and questionable performance.
And on that note I very much agree that frame rate is the far more valuable quantifier over graphics, so long as you don't have to sacrifice too much visual fidelity to get the performance.
This^^^
I have a 4k capable rig but every taxing game I've experimented with looks and plays better at 2k, ultra settings and 60FPS.
60+ fps should have always been the target but marketing people don't care about gaming, just how to create a buzz around something they've been told is important. Remember Sony also make TV's that they want to sell and what better way than to make their games console use the 4k setting.
It has nothing to do with what gamers want and everything to with what the exec's and share holders want. MS is merely jumping on the bandwagon with the 4k nonsense, if they really cared they'd have asked at least a few gamers what's important.
Besides 4k is easier to show off and market.
This is what I have been preaching since forever. 60fps needs to become the minimum standard. Shit frame rates do not help games at all. 30fps ruins immersion, adds input lag, judder, blur, and just doesn't feel good. A game can have scaled back graphics to maintain a constant 60fps while still having great design and art direction.
The push for impressive graphics isn't even the biggest problem. These newer consoles are capable of some pretty impressive graphics, but the shit CPUs in them bottleneck the system and prevent 60fps in many situations. They really need to start designing balanced hardware for these consoles.
Yes, but here's why they won't:
As an example. if they scaled the graphics on the XBone and PS4 back to be able to reach a stable 60fps, the quality of the visuals would be so far behind, so poor, that it would be jarring and embarrassing when compared to PC gaming at the time, so they would rather cripple everything to 30 than admit that is what it would need to look like to get a stable 60.
The effect of sacrificing to get to 60 would be even more people moving to PC, out of their corporate closed system, where they are harvesting uninformed children. The 3 average forced exclusives they put out each year are only system sale bait and last a week at most.
Ads are becoming smarter. Yeah X1 will run many games at 4k natively at medium setting. We have already heard it one gazillion times ?
Come up with something we don't know.
