@NathanDrakeSwag: Sorry, I spoke with all the other Hermits, and your application has been denied.
But in all seriousness, I can't believe one of the biggest cows getting a PC. Enjoy the 3080.

@DragonfireXZ95: everything was going well with your setup until the open psu. Kinda surprised that case doesn't have a cover for it.
It is covered; it's a plastic see-through cover, however. The one thing that I don't like about this case is the PSU shroud system they do have in it. It is a bit meh, especially to build in, because it doesn't have an open-back system to easily cable manage.
Yep, Samsung Odyssey G9
Are you happy with the upgrade and extra FOV it offers over 21:9?
I'm super happy with my 21:9 to this day. I just feel it's a shame how the support in UE4 games for example is severly lacking. But when it works, it's glorious!
Nope, actually I'm considering getting rid of it. This monitor has lots of downfalls that just don't make sense. Such as, you can't easily run 3440x1440p unless you forgo HDR and 240 Hz. You can only do 3440x1440p in 120 Hz and without HDR; it's pretty damn stupid, imo. You can easily do 2560x1080, which is also 21:9, so it just doesn't make any sense. The sad part is the monitor also has an aspect ratio mode you can use in the menu OSD, but you have to disable adaptive sync/g-sync to do it.
Playing in 5120x1440p is nauseating for first and third person shooters. I did, however, find workarounds for most of my games that still allow me to run HDR/240 Hz in 3440x1440p with borderless windowed and the Borderless Gaming application, so that's why I'm only considering returning it and haven't decided on it yet. With Ubisoft games that have crappy coding like Valhalla, I'm forced to either run windowed mode so I can do 3440x1440p or play full screen only, but their borderless windowed mode stretches through the whole screen, so it's fucked and I'm stuck with that white bar across the top while playing.
I'm pretty sure it's a firmware thing and Samsung is just lazy, but it's been fairly annoying.
@DragonfireXZ95 I looked at the G9 very hard but after a week of watching several reviews and reading owners thoughts on it I took a pass. It is a very cool monitor and I thought that was going to be my new one. Some very common complaints were called out like you mentioned and those were deal breakers for me.

I think I'll keep it, just due to the fact that I can run 3440x1440p at 120 Hz if I really want/need to, which is still an upgrade over my old monitor even if it's just a small upgrade. I do love the real estate space for work/productivity, though.
But yeah, unless you plan to only play in 5120x1440p or 2560x1440p, then I definitely don't recommend this monitor. The firmware updates did fix most of the issues in the reviews/blogs, like the VRR not working correctly or black screen issues. Barring that, I can't completely recommend this monitor.
@latech84: Then I guess that’s why I keep going back to my PS5 and let my PC collect dust.
I was just having fun. It is all a matter of preference. However you cannot deny that PC is capable of much more performance and better graphical settings than a PS5. However if other things are more important to you in a gaming platform that is all cool. If I had a PS5 I would always be going back to my PC, and many here who have a PS5 do the same as I would, so like I said just a matter of preference. I am happy you like your PS5 though.
Although generally it is cheaper to build it yourself, that is not always necessarily the case (depending of course on your priorities and if you want to run CPU stock or OC it, since pre-builts generally come with the lower-end mobo's and cpu coolers). In my case, like two years ago, got a CyberPowerPC off Amazon for effectively $1200 after tax which had a 9700k, RTX 2700 Super (recently upgraded to RTX 3070 FE for free since could sell 2070 for $600), CM 120mm AIO, 16GB DDR4 3000 RAM and 1TB Nvme SSD. Would have cost more to build it myself (plus the time) so went with that. Back then keep in mind prices were normal and availability was fine so if you want a PC now pre-builts may be the quickest way to go.
Although personally would have chosen something other than Alienware (their thermals are super iffy so if you don't know what you are doing/how to mitigate it could be an issue).
On another note, you should consider changing the speakers. Shame to play games while listening to those Bose. GIven how great HDR looks on PS5 and XSX games should also consider playing on a good HDR TV (say LG CX OLED, Samsung Q90T, Sony X900/950H, or Hisense H9G). The difference between SDR and HDR on a good TV is night a day its amazing.
Did you consider getting a smaller oled tv instead of a monitor?
Why would you?
I like the size. Even at 3 feet away. Don't they have 120hz modes too? Gets much better hdr performance due to contrast and higher peak brightness? Comes with a bunch of oled cons though but I'm starting to think I should just treat it as disposable.
I also find remotes ultra useful since I frequently change brightness, color temp, gamma and inputs.
Don't know much about the monitor scene though but I read some monitors have remotes.

That's what I was getting at with regards to OLED... Terrible for burn-in and it's the only reason I went with a QLED for my living room. Definite advantages, but for the price, and Windows being largely static, not replacing one of those.
Mine came with a Samsung M.2 SSD. Feeling good about that. Currently downloading a ton of shit and trying to OC my RAM.
Did you consider getting a smaller oled tv instead of a monitor?
No. I'm playing at a desk with the screen a few inches away. 34" is perfect.
That's fair.

That's fair. I'm almost about to give up on va types because I hate va panel gamma shifting/bad viewing angles. I'm quite sensitive to it and I'm not sure how I'll respond to Sony's and Samsung's wide angle solutions and at those prices.
I do hope the wide angle features trickle down to at least Samsung's highest end non QLED. I don't mind raised blacks as I'm kinda used to the IPS glow on some displays.
I also hear that oleds have other hosts of issues like flickering artifacts (macroblocking) on certain sets/firmware and other uniformity issues.
Let's just say I absolutely hate choosing a display since I feel it's a crapshoot across every panel type. I've been burned 3 times in a row across different brands, in a short amount of time.
Okay, I'll drop it for now.

I also passed on OLED when I was buying a new TV this year because of burn in risk. I ended up getting a Sony x900h. I play a lot of MP games and don't want a game HUD burned into a $1500-2000 screen.

Yup. Way too expensive to deal with burn-in, even with a warranty. I think Samsung has something like a 10-year warranty for burn-in on QLED, just because it's not prone to the issue. Plus, they just work really freakin' well as a monitor/TV depending on your model.
Sony's TV's are also amazing. I rocked a 1080p for roughly 8 years due to the quality.
@hardwenzen: Rent free, rent free. Go ahead and deny, as you brought me up, nobody else.
On second thoughts i own this shitty space now, i'll either sell it or let homeless people stay there, at least it will get some good use 🤣🤣🤣

Nobody lives in my head rent free and doesn't even know who SkillUP is. You're a fake.
I'm still waiting to see this pics of this * cough* "high end" setup.....
Interested in the first impressions. Though I personally disagree this is high end ..the cpu/gpu combo is great and would stomp all over that PS5.
I AM jealous of that PS5 though. Still can't find one. :)

I just hope the reason for buying alienware is the shortage of gpu's. Buying prebuilt isn't exactly something to boast about when you're talking to pc enthousiasts.

AMD CPUs are also in shite order. I back-ordered a 5900X on day 1, and i'm still waiting in mid-February. That rep who said AMD didn't have a paper launch can suck my dingaling.

So far so good. I'm getting great low temperatures on my GPU and the PC is quiet as hell and looks sleek in person. I've played Doom Eternal, CSGO and Halo MCC so far. Probably gonna try Valorant next. Not gonna lie the jump in fps is almost nauseating at times. I'm still getting used to it. The only other 120fps game I've played prior is Cold War PS5.

That and it would have been tough to build one with these specs for what I paid even if all the parts were in stock. 3rd party 3080s cost quite a bit more than the FEs.
@NathanDrakeSwag: 3080 is a beast too. I'm still using a case that's well over a decade old, and I had to physically remove a hard drive bay in order to make room for it.
@NathanDrakeSwag: Awesome to hear! Enjoy! Great to see all is good.
At full tilt my system is pretty quite too. On a demanding game like Control for example I'm at 40-50c on the GPU (3090) and CPU (10900k).

you can assure greater longetivity if you build the system yourself, if prebuilds are cheaper, then there's a good reason for it.
and the biggest culprit will be the psu/motherboard.
I don't think people should rag on him for buying an alienware.
First of all, even in normal times, buying a prebuilt is an easy way for someone to get into the hobby and then in future generations they have an existing platform to upgrade "the right way". Yes, I'd recommend building from scratch but it's fine. Everyone's rig starts somewhere.
Secondly, the market is broken right now. Straight up trash. Telling him he should build that from scratch is easy but him actually doing it, and for cheaper, is not exactly an easy chore
Enjoy the PC. Also don't overlook the great bc and indie/niche stuff and mods you cant get elsewhere. The horsepower is just one thing

So, why buy a gaming PC now after talking so much trash about PC and being a silly cow? It seems to me like you always wanted one, but acted like an idiot because you couldn't afford it. Now you can afford one and you are jumping on the bandwagon. Classic PC envy. LOL
Also, those games you mentioned are all potato games. You should play something more demanding to really see what the PC is capable of.

What makes his post even funnier is the fact that most multiplats look and run better on PS5 than XSX.
I bought a PC to cover all my bases and have another toy to play around with. Definitely didn't do it because of Xbox games lol.

You mean no one buys 3080s to play Sea of Thieves and Grounded? 🤣🤣🤣
My 5900X finally came in, so just gotta take in the rest of my components for the build tomorrow. Not doing it myself this time around, as I really can't be bothered. @NathanDrakeSwag: I went a little overboard, as I had some unexpected money come in, but damn does it still hurt. Though I didn't pay over what the components are worth as I back-ordered the day of release for the CPU/GPU/MB.
I wanted to go with a monitor like yourself, but I don't have the room, and I use it as a HTPC on my 4K.
@lundy86_4: about time, you've been waiting on that CPU for months. Take nice shiny pics once completed.
So the flip flopping OP, even with all his PC hating he's done in the last year is flip flopping again, except he's going PC, such a hypocrite.
You'll make an excellent hermit OP as you're as delusional as the other laster race guys on here 🤣🤣🤣

How does owning multiple platforms make me a flip flopper? You're on a gaming enthusiast site bud. Some of us here like to play more than Forza and Ass Creed lol. PC, PS5 and Switch all bring something to the table. You're just salty because Xbox blows.
@NathanDrakeSwag: C'mon now drakey, you've been shitting on PC for years now, and you did a thread about a month ago bashing PC that got locked, and here we are a month later and you flip flopping to PC, glad all the hermits have forgotten (whoops maybe not now) and are welcoming a wolf in hermits clothing into the fold.
So you really bought a PC to play MS games because you don't want to have to buy a Series X and flip flop back to MS because of all the shit i'll give you 🤣🤣🤣
EDIT: lets look at some of your PC/hermit bashing shall we
Remember this one? then there's the multiple PC hating comments, welcome to hermitsville, the place you hated a month ago 🤣🤣🤣
IP is spamming a lot in this thread. Has no pc nor any of the next gen systems, but still spamming. I'd be mad as well if i was stuck with an Xbone and absolutely nothing to look forward to but Forza 35 in two to three years from now. Its infuriating, so i kinda understand his point of view.
You can tell he is very jealous of your pc because this is what he has been using to write on SW.
This Drake clown flip flopping again? PS5 is such a piece of shit he didn't take long to abandon ship, I guess that gimmick controller isn't all that great after all.
What a wanker.

Lucy!! Yuz gots sum 'splainin' to do!
If as he stated, a $500 machine was as good as the kit he just spent a few grand to game on (not including the monitor and peripherals)...it does come across strange.
In reality tho...you know most on here poke fun and troll....and he trolled the XBox and PC crowd to keep SW alive LOL! Yes it is hypocritical but good on him for grabbing a nice PC to check out and have fun gaming on. Me, myself..... I am more of a gaming whore and play on everything and don't just dry hump one plastic box. So therefore I troll EVERYONE...not really. Now back to eating my popcorn while you two duke it out. 😂

I just spent 3 grand on a PC setup to avoid spending $500 on an XSX... do you realize how crazy and butthurt you sound?
Do you actually own any current gaming hardware at all? An XSX? PS5? Switch? A PC that can run something more recent than Runescape? Because it just seems strange that someone like you who literally doesn't play games other than Forza spends so much time trolling a forum dedicated to a hobby you don't even participate in. It would be like going to a car enthusiast forum if you take the bus every day.
