So I finally just couldn't take it anymore. I was playing call of duty WAW beating absolute A, and it the game crashed and then my computer sat there for what seemed an hour and then just shut off. Things like this happen all of the time in my PC gaming fun. I was the guy that bought all the new games as soon as they game out. I had a decent (though no longer amazing pc) Geforce 8800GT 512MB, AMD 6000+, 4GB RAM, Vista Ultimate, yadda yadda.

I just got so tired of constantly having to find updates and patches, and upgrading my hardware, that I decided to dust off my Xbox 360 and two games I bought for it years ago and give it another go. I gave up first because I hated the controller, mouse and keyboard just seem natural. Heres my conclusions I've come to.

The BAD

1. The graphics annoy me... at times, very badly. Going from 8X anti-aliasing at 60FPS with all maxed in COD WAW to the xbox demo of it I played was a treachery. But I got used to it, and it doesn't bother me quite as badly. I bought a bunch of new games for the 360 and some of them look pretty darn good, like need for speed shift for example. Games like prototype, still bother me graphic wise a bit, but I just have to unspoil myself.

2. I still don't like the controller. For everything other than FPS and RTS, its the bomb. Otherwise, it's simply defying what god intended. I can't pull half the tricks I could on the PC in COD. I feel like I'm being.....casual.

3. The games cost about 10 bucks more, but I don't find it to be so bad. At least I know they will work perfectly when I get home.

4. You have to pay for all the map packs and such. I find that dumb, but I guess I can get used to it too.

....thats about it.

The GOOD

1. It does everything for me. It updates all the games automatically, and everything loads quite snappily with no problamo.

2. The games don't crash on me all the time. Some may have a lot of bugs, but so the PC versions...and they crash.

3. The selection of games is awesome compared to the every now and then games PC seems to be coming out with lately. True, all the games I've bought so far are also on pc, but theres so many more I can get.

4. DEMOS. I really like getting to play the game before I buy it, and PC almost never gets demos anymore.

5. XBLA is great. I do like playing casual games, and theres a poo load to choose from.

6. Everything else.

I've done what I said I would never do as a hardcore PC gamer, and I think it feels great. The games look great on my TV, and everything works perfectly all the time. Not to mention, even though I dont like the controller, its a lot more comfortable to lay back a bit.

I am now a console gamer. I'm already thinking about buying a PS3 slim too.

any1 else made a similar move recently. I'm just feelin pretty good so I had to throw down all my little verdicts I've come to.

My games rarely crash. That's the price for early adopting new things. Enjoy the milkage :)

Well for me, I would never stop gaming on PC... there's just too much games and better multiplats.

But I do have a PS3 for other exclusives that seems interesting and sports.

But, I don't seem to have any PC problemes... or on rare occasions.

Steam updates everything for me.

Plenty of demos with Steam.

If you talking about casual games... I could swear PC has a mega load of them...

I hate the fact that games are 20$ more on consoles, online gaming on X360 is not free, the controlers are also not fun for FPS.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks his story is complet BS.

The second he mentioned having to manually look for patches and updates I called BS. I have absolutely no idea when the last time I had to manually look for, DL, and install a patch for a game. Are there games out there that don't update automatically?

Another BS statement (although not as BS as the patches argument) is when he started acting like his PC was freezing/crashing all the time. Sorry, that never happens to me and if it's happening to you, then that's a YOU problem not a PC gaming problem. I don't even remember the last time I had computer troubles. I built it with quality parts and it works.

Other BS statements include the claims that PC doesn't have a good game selection recently as well as touting how XBLA has a bunch of casual games that weren't available to him on PC. Are you kidding me? Casual games aren't available on PC? For every 1 XBLA game there's 100 casual PC games and almost all are FREE.

WAY too much BS here to believe any of it.

Oh man, been PC gaming for about 13 years, in the past 5, the only time I've had a game crash was when I go to alt-tab or something during an action sequence.. in games like Fallout 3 or something, if I forget to go to the menu before alt-tabbing.. I get PC Demos all the time, you're just too lazy to look, PC has more exclusives anyways. Going from PC to console gaming is a downgrade, I own and play every console, as well as my PC, but making a switch from PC to 360 just seems so wrong.

Yes, steam provides demos, updates, casual games, pretty much everything XBL provides, and for free, and with a much larger game library, as well as amazing weekly deals.

have you considered his pc isnt powerful enough to play those games, so instead of upgrading his pc(which I see as a waste of money)

when he could just play them on 360 anyways

also he mentioned that he has to upgrade frequently. WHile, seriously, a PC doesnt require** someone to do so on a regular basis. : another BS point.

I've been a console gamer most of my life. I got stuck on PC when I got hooked on World of Warcraft. I started in 04 and when 360 released, I really had no interest in picking it up because WoW was taking up most of my gaming time, so I started buying games on my PC because I'd just gotten used to it, I guess. I bought a 360 in January of this year and quit PC gaming for good. My impressions:

It's great to be using a controller again. It feels like an extention of the game...it just feels RIGHT, natural. Using a keyboard felt so...clunky.

Some games used to crash constantly, Oblivion for example.

Being a PC exclusive gamer meant I missed out on basically entire genres like racing, platformers, fighters, sports, music games, and so on, as well great shooters like Halo 3 and Gears of War 2. In the few years I was a PC gamer, there seemed to be an extreme lack of big name exclusives like those two. I had a PC good enough to play Crysis on high and besides the graphics, I wasn't impressed. RTS, the genre practically exclusive to PC, has never interested me.

Having to upgrade my PC was a pain in the ass, and although it wasn't necessary all that frequently, it's still nice never having to deal with worrying about if I can play a certain game or not. I look back on the thousands of $$$ I wasted on graphics cards, CPUs, RAM, new heatsinks, ect, and it's just ridiculous.

PC gamers are always going on about how amazing mods are but I want to play the game the developers intended me to play, anything else is a complete waste of time.

So basically, it feels great to be a console gamer again. Goodbye PC gaming, I don't miss you.

I'm playing South Park Tower Defense right now, is that on Steam? What about Shadow Complex? It's a pretty popular xbla game. Nope. What about Zombie Apocalypse? No again, and even if it was there probably wouldn't be local co-op. Can I buy movies and tv shows with the same acccount? No? Not a good replacement then.

But anyways to the original poster as you can see the pc-only gamers here won't believe your story. To them pc gaming is a path of enlightenment that you never leave. I played the pc almost exclusively last gen but now play 90% on the 360. How can this be? I don't like waiting for buggy ports and I like playing on the couch.

Unlike last gen the pc is now treated like crap by developers. I'm not going to sit and twiddle my thumbs for 6 months while waiting to play something that I can go to best buy and pick up for $10 more.

It's also nice getting the version that is designed exactly for the the hardware you own. PC gamers don't talk about the fact that since there are so many possible hardware combinations a game can come out that works well for most people but gives others serious problems. Case example: GTA IV.

Lack of big exclusive... you like FPS and you didn't play the battlefield series... comon!

Mods are waste of time... wow, I think thatsays it all, that you were never really into PC gaming at all.

Don't even get me started with GTA4... which runs better on my PC then any console.

Were are theses buggys ports?

I agree with you. I have a fairly high end pc and it plays games very well, but somehow i just prefer gaming on my 360. I dont find the graphics THAT much better on my pc. Oh sure, i get higher resolution and better AA, but thats about it. I just get a easier, more uniform experience with the 360 and that includes online play. For example, i can get COD:MW2 for either my pc or the 360. I will most likely choose the 360 because of LIVE and my friends list. I could get some better graphics with the pc version and just play random people on pc with no voice communication, but thats just not that fun.

I don't blame you, the 360 gets alot of PC games anyway, and gets them at an earlier date. Have fun with your 360, get a PS3 also and don't look back. Other than a few PC exclusives, I'd much rather game on consoles myself.

Well if that works for you, I could think of getting a console to play games that aren't on PC, but I would never get one to play the same games, need my high res gfx, kb/m and servers. Then again my PC is still runs like a swiss clock with no crashes or such, lets hope your xbox does the same... :P

Good choice. My brother use to game all the time on PC and i would try some PC games but could never get into them. Battlefield 2 is the only game I liked to play on PC. But i found Battlefield Bad Comapny just as good and was alot funner because i had friends to play it with. Also I hate how Hermits always act like games on PC and Xbox 360 are soooo much better on PC. When there not. There always exactly the same except for slightly better graphics on PC.

No, they act like they're better for other reasons as well

Dedicated servers

Mod support

Higher resolutions, as well as graphical features the 360 can't handle at a steady framerate.

Keyboard/Mouse

Free online service

Also I hate how Hermits always act like games on PC and Xbox 360 are soooo much better on PC. When there not. There always exactly the same except for slightly better graphics on PC.

treedoor

No, they act like they're better for other reasons as well

Dedicated servers

Mod support

Higher resolutions, as well as graphical features the 360 can't handle at a steady framerate.

Keyboard/Mouse

Free online service

Alot of that is opinion. Who cares for dedicated servers, Online is just fine on 360. Most of the time I play games with my friends anyways. I know I and alot of other people could care less for Mod Support. Keyboard mouse is an opinion. And than you got Higher REsoultions up there which is just another `Looks better on PC`Who really cares i`m going to have just as much fun playing L4D2 on my 360 that your going to have playing on your PC. If not more because all of my friends have a 360.

The only thing you got is free online service, Which i really don`t care because i can afford the $4 a month.

Hermits state that they have better graphics. Which they do.

They also have mods a lot of the time, which adds an unbelievable amount of replayability.

It's not as if they're lying :?

Yah, and what's with people saying they don't care about mods?

CS 1.6 was a mod, and I spent hundreds of hours on that. Same with TFC and DoD.

And most recently I've been playing L4D with friends, and rather than play the same 5 campaigns we get this big choice of campaigns to choose from that other people have built. Many of which are great, and some are really difficult without great coordination between friends. My L4D purchase went further than a 360 owners' L4D purchase.

You don't have to say something in as many words, you know? You said that they are wrong when they state that, which implies they are lying.

Well if you bring mods into the equation, what you see as enjoyable on consoles, is not as enjoyable to myself. Considering I have potentially unlimited replayability.

Who cares for dedicated servers? There's a lot of people who may not have as many gaming friends like you do so dedicated servers become very important. (not to mention they add custom maps, modding, admins that can kick/ban annoying people)

I can assure you that as far as FPS go, Kb/mouse are far superior to a controller and most gamers would agree to this (console gamers included)

Seriously I shouldn't have expected much of an argument from someone who says the Leaf's are Canada's team. lol

Mods are fantastic. I've been getting back into L4D, and it's mods that have done it for me. Especially some of the campaigns out there.

Sure. Kids in Africa playing soccer in the mud will have as much fun as kids in America playing soccer on a nice field with goals.

One is still going to have a better experience.

have you considered his pc isnt powerful enough to play those games, so instead of upgrading his pc(which I see as a waste of money)

when he could just play them on 360 anyways

Eggimannd

Wow. Just freaking wow. Do you EVEN read people's opening posts before posting in a thread? He said he had:Geforce 8800GT 512MB, AMD 6000+, 4GB RAM.

Seriously wow.

I'm just feelin pretty good so I had to throw down all my little verdicts I've come to.

lordlunch2

awesone its really cool hat you like it. now we just need to show lemmings and cows that its loads more fun to play the games they bash, and that its not cheating to have more than one console I think that SW will benift because we'll have more open minded people. btw my xbl account is jonny N0B0DY those aren't O's they're zeros in N0B0DY but right now I'm away from my xbox (it died :'( oh well it was a xenon chipset bound to go soon.... time to get the jasper) and its my noob account don't under estimate the 1000 gamescore my other one Vansien 117 is registered in europe (really laggy durring matches) I gotta re do all my games (or move to EU) (advice on the xbox btw the jasper chipset has an output wattage of 150W (or any xbox made after sept 2008, or any arcade and the new elites) just incase you wanted to check)

so I'm gonna be on loads after Jan 22.

Again I'm real glad to see you enjoy consoles and I hope to see you on PSN as well ( my user name is embaressing it was made when I was a lemming thank god I'm not no more ) PSN: xbox_4_life_lol

Good point, though I tried it and it failed for me, playing zombie mode on 360 with a 32' HDTV was an abysmal in comparison.... splitscreen is absolutely terrible even on larger screens.

2. I still don't like the controller. For everything other than FPS and RTS, its the bomb. Otherwise, it's simply defying what god intended. I can't pull half the tricks I could on the PC in COD. I feel like I'm being.....casual.

Likewise, I think this one is fair, PCs do shooters and RTS so much better, but controllers do fighters and racers much better, theyre about equal, too bad fighters bore me, and racers are tolerable these days on the PC.

3. The games cost about 10 bucks more, but I don't find it to be so bad. At least I know they will work perfectly when I get home.

All my pc games work perfectly =/ and I got a similar rig to you. in the UK they are nearly half the price of console games aswell.

4. You have to pay for all the map packs and such. I find that dumb, but I guess I can get used to it too.

... SIGH lame.

....thats about it.

The GOOD

1. It does everything for me. It updates all the games automatically, and everything loads quite snappily with no problamo.

Load rates are slower, oh and... Xfire automatically updates all your games (or at least auto downloads/finds the patchs for you to click and install).

2. The games don't crash on me all the time. Some may have a lot of bugs, but so the PC versions...and they crash.

DISAGREE, my 360 scratchs my discs, flickers with RROD now and then (old one I guess but still) and has the disc read error quite often.

3. The selection of games is awesome compared to the every now and then games PC seems to be coming out with lately. True, all the games I've bought so far are also on pc, but theres so many more I can get.

Jesus... one "badish" year and people turn around so quickly. "so much more" not on the 360 you cant :S....

4. DEMOS. I really like getting to play the game before I buy it, and PC almost never gets demos anymore.

PC Demos for pretty much all games... gamershell/fileplanet ect and steam always provide them.

5. XBLA is great. I do like playing casual games, and theres a poo load to choose from.

Theres a 100x more on the PC.... cheaper and well often free.

6. Everything else.

I've done what I said I would never do as a hardcore PC gamer, and I think it feels great. The games look great on my TV, and everything works perfectly all the time. Not to mention, even though I dont like the controller, its a lot more comfortable to lay back a bit.

Mods are important, but then again you get back to what the TC was saying about having to look for updates, which a new mod isn't automatically dl'd to you. Then what if that mod has issues, well now your pc could lock up during normal gameplay not even just during play time in that mod. Heck I put a crysis mod in my crysis game and now all of my vehicles don't have back wheels. And better yet that mod installed and does not show up in my uninstall programs list, so I would have to uninstall my entire game and reinstall it to get it working properly again.

Also I downloaded the Arma2 demo and all of my textures were missing from the game. I had to go in and manually disable some of my ram (which I bought just for Arma2) so I was only using 3gb's then the textures and game worked great. Now let me tell you that fix nearly took me 3 FULL days to find and figure out by surfing the heck out of the web and Arma2 forums. All of this just to enjoy the demo.

I like pc gaming but it does take work for you to always keep up with the pc gaming world. And as the TC I've refound my love in gaming through a console (ps3). Relaxed, enjoyable, and community feel of psn just keeps me feeling like I'm connected to the ps3 gaming world. Just a touch of my remote I'm at my ps'3 desktop and I'm ready chilling on the couch :)

If some great pc game comes out I'll play it and possibly Doom 4 and HL3. But until then I'm all over the ps3 and its games for sure.

Also TC, get a ps3 you want regret it. You'll have its exclusives, free online playand the big games that are pc/360 multiplate you can play on the pc for the full feel.
