Seriously, as a person who pays for a college education in political sciences, your analysis is profound, in depth and quite frankly, ground breaking.

Sarcasm or not, I appreciate the complement.:) I'm taking 15 credits this semester and out of of the five classes I'm taking, I enjoy my political science class the most. It's the only class I havn't fallen asleep in!

Sure, agreed.

The caveat:

Socialism is just great until other peoples money runs out. :P

Extra credit offered - to whom is credited for that statement ?

I'd say the Wii is a more liberal console. All players are equal and it is very inclusive, gamers, non-gamers, old, young, everyone is included in the Wii's "polity" and grants everyone equal participation without discrimination. Nintendo also has a Rousseauian tendency to find a "general will" of its players, by finding what is common in all gamers' interests and then uses that as a basis for game making. As a more left-leaning ideology the Wii is much more revolutionary and looks to change the status quo

The PS3 and Xbox on the other hand would be more conservative. They seek to preserve the status quo withtheir traditional games. Seeing themselves as being in direct competition, they use better andmore powerfultechnology in order to secure survival. They are Platonic in the sense that they support the idea of exclusivity rather than inclusivity; certain types of gamers (the hardcore gamer) simplyare the more wise of gamers and those are the ones that should be at the forefront. Tolerate casual gamers but do not allow them to run the show.

Im sorry, but I do not include the Wii in my analogies, mainly due to the fact that I don't take it seriously. Besides, I'm comparing the two main economic systems of capitalism and socialism. The battle of xbox and ps3 is much easier to coincide with that political battle.;)

Well after seeing how much of a mess Obama is doing to America I am so very glad I did not choose the socialism one. God that man is killing my country.SilentlyMad
You must relate that to videogames or you are trolling, friend. If we are to bring politics on system war, it must be for analogical purposes only. :P

Here's something to ponder, how is the Xbox 360 capitalist if Microsoft highly regulates online content and pricing? Capitalist systems are free markets :o

"Buying a ps3 is like socialism, you pay for the system and get everyhing for free. Buying a xbox is like capitalism, you pay for the systemBUT have to pay for everything else separately". This is an unbiased statement by the way. chaz53132

anarchy

PC is wild west capitalism, there are no "taxes" (re: licenses, royalties, online service fees, etc.) rendered by any single entity, even hardware has its own ecosystem of groups competing for your money (pirates = splicers)

socialist america

360 is modern american socialism, you pay yearly taxes for services to a central entity, this entity subsidizes groups competing for your money and subsidizes any failures you may have with the system (but otherwise is still firmly capitalism)

stalin

Wii is communism, it's a low-cost "everybody" platform built not for the niche competitors but for the good of many, the central entity is the dominant player and tells all to exercise and be happy and believe in the mysticism of their great leader (Miyamoto)

nazis

PS3 is totalitarianism, it allows smaller groups to compete in its area but dominates and controls all the major channels through which its users see the world, all the major yearly products are produced by the central entity, propaganda is sent out constantly regarding all other platforms, and even media is preferred to be distributed on their own system (E3 2006 = their Stalingrad)

Obama isn't a socialist. If anything, he's slightly right of centre. Don't push the center line so far right that anything left of it is socialist. Oh, I've gone off topic. Umm... I disagree: The PS3 is capitalist, you don't have to pay for the online service in terms of taxes. Xbox 360 is socialist, because you have a mandatory cost for slightly more content.

So the ps3 doesn't actually provide good services and many of them don't actually exist and the 360 has times of failures, sure, but overall is bestowed with a prosperous setting?

[QUOTE="surrealnumber5"] just left of obama is just right of slavery, i dont see how anyone could think of him as any where close to center

*Blinks* This is actually incredible. To say that Americans are on the verge of slavery is an incredible and totally ridiculous statement by ANY standards. [QUOTE="SilentlyMad"] You need to study more about the styles of goverment. He is pretty much a Marxist actually.

And there is where you lose credibility. He's not even close to being a Marxist. Communism means that EVERYONE in the country is payed the same regardless of their work output, EVERYONE works for the government. Here's the definition of capitalism: "an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state." There isn't even a public option yet! Given, there are a few institutions which are government run, like school, police, transport, etc. etc. etc. But that applied even during the Bush administration! You've still got private enterprise in most sectors. And in order to stay on topic: The Wii is a dictator. Because, it takes all the money and gives nothing back.

no obama does not want slavery, he wants share cropping. you will work and pay more in rent (taxes) then you earn. that then forces you to continue to work in order to pay off your debt for working. i think its worse then slavery, at least slave are not lead to believe they have choices

Some of you really need to lighten up and stop being so damn uptight about everything in life like internet forums.First of all, my original statemnet was an analogy, nothing more. You can create TONS of different analogies using different factors but I choose my certain one. I'm not putting down socialism or capitalism mainly because each has its own strengths and weaknesses. I'm not into putting down other people's ideas before understanding them. This was a tongue-in-cheek topicand my "analogy" was something I thought of during class that I thought was kindaclever and comicalbut obviously some people don't have a sense of humor. Thanks for the cookiesStumpt25, I was getting hungry. :P

heres a hint, stop watching Fox news and spewing their talking points.. Lets see, job market stable again, consumer credit is up first time in a year, manufacturing growing again, retail sales on the rise and the economy growing at a 6% clip last quarter, oh yea he sure is destroying our country.. Give me a break. Republicans want to destory this country, they are the ones killing pentagon officials and destroying IRS buildings all thank to the neocon tea party movement. I consider conservatives domestic terrorists.. they care nothing for the constitution with torture and spying on us, they care nothing our health insurance will go up and another 45,000 people will die because of lack of insurance, they care nothing whatsoever about wanting to help the middle class, all they care about is corporate welfare and giving big companies tax breaks. Obama is doing a great job as president so far. Sure there are some things i dont agree with him on and wish he would be more firm.. Oh and lets see, so far we have captured 6 Taliban leaders ever since Obama's war strategy.. How many Did President Cheney capture? (yes i say President Cheney because lets face it, he was the real one running or shall i say RUINING the country) thats right, NONE. We are on the verge of capturing Bin laden and have not had any major terrorist attack whatsoever under Obama so far. The war in Iraq is coming to a end like he promised and he is closing gitmo. And before you go blaming democrats just remember that Republicans controlled congress and the white house for 6 of the last 8 years. Bottom line is dont spew your Fox news talking points without thinking. Oh and i also find it ironic how conservatives claim to be the party of Fiscal discipline when the only time we have had balanced budgets is under a Democratic President.. Hmmm lets see' Kennedy, Carter, Johnson and Clinton all had balanced budgets while Regan, Bush Sr and Bush JR had soaring deficits. Care to explain this one to me?

I stopped reading after I read the line "watching Fox". Why are you criticizing someone for having there own set of beliefs? I used to be all anti-'liberal because I thought they were all like you when in reality, they are not. I learned about the classic liberals who were great people and respected other people rights and opinions. Great men like Thomas Jefferson, John Locke, and John Dewey were real liberals unlike the irrational ones we have today. I'm neither conservative or liberal, I share ideas from both sides and make my own mix. BUT I respect other peoples beliefs and ideas.

Im just simply stating that all the neocon lies about Obama are completly false and deserve to be called out for the lying fear mongers they are.. Ok first they say Obama is anti gun.. ok if he is so anti gun rights why did he sign a bill into law which now allows guns in national parks? then they say he is weak on war and terror. Ok then how come he is sending 30k more troops to afghanistan and so far since Obama's plan we have captured 6 taliban leaders? They say he wants to run up the debt.. Ok then how come when he called on congress to establish a BI PARTISAN debt panel and enforce "paygo" (which BTW lead us to balanced budgets in the 90s) REPUBLICANS opposed it so as a result he was forced to do it by executive order?

and my favorite i hear from everyone is "Obama is going to raise my taxes" I mean seriously, he is ONLY RAISING taxes on those making more than 250k a year, so why are people that only make 50k a year or less complaining that Obama is going to "raise their taxes" when he clearly is not..

It just upsets me is all that Fox news can claim to be fair and balanced but yet endorse all these false ideas i just mentioned and not get called out on it.

[QUOTE="chaz53132"][QUOTE="Kennysolidsnake"] heres a hint, stop watching Fox news and spewing their talking points.. Care to explain this one to me?Kennysolidsnake

I admit I can not read more then a few words of your posts either. First it was the blah blah Fox News then it was blah blah Neocon. Just do me a favor first read up on a neocon first and you will find out you are using it wrong.

Since you obviously cannot comprehend the most advanced questions then let me ask you a simple one.. Do you make more than 250k a year? i ask because you are complaining that "Obama is going to raise your taxes" well he is only raising taxes on those making over 250k a year, so that leads me to believe that you make over 250k a year.. so my next question is.. What is your career where you make that much and where can i apply?

We absolutely need higher taxes. No, I don't want them, neither does any other U.S. citizen but the fact of the matter is we are in serious finacial trouble as a country and the only possible way we are going to get rid of that is higher taxes.. People think terrorism, war, health reform, or illegal immigration are the biggest concerns when really it's our debt. It's going to be the end of us as a country if we don't fix it. Analysists are saying our debt is going to be close to 50 trillion in the next 20 years. I'm scared, real scared.

I do not consider myself a republican or a democrat honestly but the fact your saying the stuff you are I know it is not even worth debating at all. Some people have drank so much of their chosen parties Kool-aid there is no point in debating. This is also not that correct place anyways.

just left of obama is just right of slavery, i dont see how anyone could think of him as any where close to center surrealnumber5
what Obama might think in private may be left but in terms of what his administration has done it's been right of center in many areas. most noticeably in war he's had pretty much the same policies as Bush. and in taxes he's been right of Reagan. about the only thing that is sorta left was healthcare but without the public option it's not what the left wants anyway.

bringing this back to consoles.

PC - Full Capitalism, your experience is completely up to what you can afford.

360 - US Capitalism, mostly the same experience but with additional fee for better features.

ps3 - Socialism, same experience but costs more upfront.

wii - communism, all the same experience with cheap upfront cost.

"Buying a ps3 is like socialism, you pay for the system and get everyhing for free. Buying a xbox is like capitalism, you pay for the systemBUT have to pay for everything else separately". This is an unbiased statement by the way. I'm in a college, political science class and this is how I better understand the difference between the two. :D It'a always good to add a litle humor to everthing in life.

chaz53132
Well, I thought about it differently. PC gaming is like Capitalism (individualism) meaning you do everything yourself and choose it all yourself. Console gaming is more along the lines of socialism, meaning the console is controlled by the console creator (Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony) so everyone who has it has the same system, virtually.

Introducing politics to an already crazy videogame forum isn't a good idea because it'll just make things worse!
