So because a game has Mario in its name, it's immediately inferior to other games? I'd guess I have to differ, as the classic Mario platformers (a la Mario Galaxy) have a standard of being really, really good.
The fact that you'd choose to skip them because of their name is stupid.
I'd take Mario Galaxy over the two you named. Other people have different taste in gaming you know.LINKloco
so would i. im not tracking bioshock or mass effect but they dont seem to be the types of games i like. mario galaxy isn't really either but i'd much rather buy it. i think i may actually.
every company relies on its franchises. sony have the rachets and killzones and so on. there will be many more games in those franchises for as long as they sell. MS have halo and PGR (to name a couple). there will be more halos and PGRs.
sega have sonic which is almost as old as mario. i could go on. Nintendo make mario games because mario games sell. to nintendos credit, marios games (well mainly kart and the platformers) are of a consistently high quality (he has featured in some dog awful games though). as long as the games remain good, i dont see a prob though.
nintendo also make new franchises. on the N64 they had the very ambitious animal crossing. on the GC they had pikmin and geist (as well as a complete overhaul of metroid). im sure there are more if u dig around.
I used to lvoe nintendo, but now in the current day, I am starting to grow tired of them. Nintendo relies on big franchises, which isnt a bad thing, but they rely on them too much. how many mario games are there? gotta be tons, not calling mario bad, i just think nintendo should release some more interesting franchises. At least microsoft and sony are interesting and put out franchises. Heck i would take bioshock and mass effect over mario galaxy any day. I am not trying to be a fanboy ( i hate fanboys) but nintendo has gotta make some more interesting games, mario wont last forever ( well knowing nintendo, he probably will)Film-Guy
If you haven't played all the Mario games, there is no point in mentioning about how many Mario games there are.
And why would they stop making something that sells?
Also, they ARE making new interesting franchises. Pikmin last gen, Disaster for Wii, etc.
Nintendo is the only company that relies on big franchises that's for sure.
I mean I don't see any other compnay with sequals and rehashes... XD
I have no problem with sequels. A franchise is just a name to me, to familiarize the player with what to expect.
If Nintendo were to make a new IP and use that in place of Mario in Super Mario Galaxy, and the game would still play exactly the same, assuming things like mushrooms were replaced by something else (say carrots), would it really matter?
Bioshock, Mass effect Wow more shooters with fancy outfits thats what my pc is for :D Reggies reply to your problem
I agree, Mario is getting annoying.Hinata237
Annoying cause he's in games?
That's like saying I agree Ben Stiller is getting annoying he's in to many movies. ... Don't play them... No one is forcing you to play the stupid spin off games that annoy you... I don't see why you shold take offence that things exist... if you don't have to be botherd by them at all, unless you choose to.

Holy crap, you gotta love teh Sheep coming out of the woodwork for this thread.
God forbid someone not like Nintendo or their affinity with rehashing the same characters time and time again.
I grew up with Nintendo, but even I am getting tired of the same thing over and over again.
Mario Galaxy looks promising, but until I play it I'm not getting my hopes up.
For all we know it could be another Sunshine. (ugh)
people who want nintendo to retire mario are just nintendo haters. They would love for the heart, soul, and genesis of nintendo as a video game giant to be gone forever. I think there is a much better case for megaman and sonic to be retired indefinitely, but again, that's stupid. These franchises have proven formulas for success, even if not all the games are not successful. People see mario in sunshine, melee, and in heaps of side projects and so they sense weakness and pounce, as if mario isn't capable of super mario 64 anymore. (or supermario world, mario 3, etc) Nintendo should only retire mario when a great mario game isn't well received, not when they dont execute his formula correctly.GunSmith1_basic
It's not weakness, it's more like whorishness.
Mario needs to learn to say no.
Ok here we go. Out of the 200+ Games to feature Mario in any way, shape or form, only 11 (around 5%)of those are platformers (including the Land games, Galaxy, but not including remakes and rereleases). The NES is the only one to have more than one of these games on its console.
The Super Mario Kart series of Racing games has five installations, with no more than one on any given platform.
There's also the Mario sports series, which can be further broken down into Tennis(4), Golf(4), Football (soccer)(2) and other (which includes baskeball and baseball). Once again with only one per platfrom.
There's the Paper Mario series of RPGs which has 3 titles under it's belt and there's also super Mario RPG on the SNES, and two Mario & Luigi titles on Handhelds. All of which are on seperate consoles.
Mario Party series of Party games (duh!) has 9 installments, spread out over 3 consoles and 10 years.
The rest are a series of one shot games like Dr. Mario, remakes, releases and titles where he makes as an appearance as a cameo or plot point but is not a main character (Super Princess peach and SMW: 2 are examples).I'd say thats a pretty varied roster for over 25 years and 9 consoles. Especially when they all tend to be of a pretty high standard.
