My take on the system war of today. The Slim changes everything.

I posted this on the 360 forum in another thread where a poster asked which system to purchase.

The slim PS3. It's game library is slowly becoming great and it continues to introduce some amazing titles. The price is now the same as a Elite and you get better hardware, free online service, free wifi and a free blu-ray player (HD-DVD) is a dead platform). 360 may have a few more excellent exclusives and a slightly better online service, but it all boils down the better deal: The Ps3 slim.

That being said, I am not a Sony fan-boy. I only have a 360 and am a loyal Xbox gamer. I do plan on buying a Ps3 in the future but times are tough. A man in your position (starting out fresh with no next-gen hardware or software) should really look at the best deal.

PS3 Slim -

Pros: Great Hardware, Free online service, Blu-ray, A game library slowing reaching it's true potential, Only $299.

Cons: Constant online updates, PSN is not quite on par with LIVE.

Xbox 360 -

Pros: Excellent game library and still growing, LIVE is great, Killer exclusives.

Cons: Terrible hardware (50% fail rate), Live does have a few issues, Wifi isn't free.

You said HDMI is a dead platform. Should be HD-DVD, I'm guessing.

You should put IMO and I already stated the lack of 360 Wifi is moot if you don't need it.....

it should still come with it even if not needed. Heck even the ds comes with wifi.

I don't have a slim PS3...I think the media coverage pushes for slim images, and I don't believe in we should just jump on a slim bandwagon.

I got a fat PS3, which has more cushion for the tech's to be pushin', yo!

back awhiel ago when people said the ps3 has no games, they werent joking. but now ps3 does have games lol

Yes it would be nice if the 360 had wifi and bluray included. But on the other hand it's hilarious how ps3 fanboys magically forget how much more their system cost for years until just a month ago. If you're looking to get a 360 just hold off for a bit since microsoft is waiting for the right time to pull the trigger on another pricedrop, them playing around with 50$ off rebates shows they're testing the water.

I would never trade my fat PS3 for a slim... it matches my PC so perfectly!

the bluray is free? um...if thats the case why wasn't the ps3 cheaper before now?

if so much stuff in teh ps3 is free it should have started at like 250 bux. but it didn't.
The slim changes nothing the price changes every thing.

The price drop is what is helping the PS3 gain ground, not the intro of the Slim. If they would have put the old 80GB phat at $299 it would have sold better also. It's hard to argue that the PS3 is not the better value now that it is priced even with the Elite. Of course you can still get the Arcade version $100 cheaper.

Microsoft will probably drop the Elite price some more soon. I think they are just waiting to see what happens with the $299 price point before lowering it again. I honestly expected the 120 Gb Elite to end up at $249 and the 60GB Pro to drop to $199 and the Arcade to go away. I think it would have made more sense than eliminating the 60GB Pro.

as a 60gig owner all i can think when i see a slim or a non-bc fat is that every sku that came after the one i have is gimped

all four of my usb ports are in use, i use my mem card slots for pics and video all the time and just the other day i replayed okami and was thinking about picking up a copy of the harvey birdman game on ps2 that i saw getting clearanced out at a store i was at

all things the slim can't do

sure there is a workaround for those problems but not something convienient like having all that just built into the system

there is a reason new in box 60gigs go for $900 on amazon and that reason is that the newer models just can't compare

Get glasses. He states PS3 has Bluray and (HD-DVD) is dead.

PS3 for $299 for all it does for the price is obviously a better deal than a Wii or 360.
