I wish to give my two cents on GS GOTY and how I feel about it. I think GS dropped the ball really bad this year. With games like Halo 3, Mass Effect, Forza 2, PGR4, and other great games on the Xbox 360, I feel that GS has been paid by or have become fanboys of a console that can't do 1080p, has no online, has a bad community, and over-all has bad games. I fail to see how GS sides when Nintendo on this when all they do is hype and hype. I have a couple of reasons why Mario does NOT deserve GOTY.1. It's rehashed, it's the same game as Mario 64 and Sunshine. I have collected all 120!!! (I WAS THINKING OF POKEMON, MY BAD!) stars in the game, so don't say I haven't played it.
2. The graphics are last gen. I'm sorry, but with games like Gears, Forza 2, and Halo 3, I fail to see how Mario gets GOTY with it's last-gen graphics. My personal opinion.

Kaoshero, Super Mario Galaxies deserved the Game of the Year Award for all the reasons you bashed it for. You obviously did not play the game. Here are the rebuttals that I have which corresponds to the same number on your post
1. It is not reshashed, infact Mario Galaxies beats its predecessor in every aspect possible. Its two player, better graphicssounds, the whole game has a completely new layout (with the exception of collecting stars, however its still completely new). Before you say, SMG is just about collecting stars, its nothing new, then take a good look at Halo 3. What makes it completely different from its predecessors Its just a simple linear FPS for all I know, just a good multiplayer game.
2. As you said, the graphics are last-gen.. true Wii cannot play on 720p or 1080p, but the graphics are not last gen. Like I said before, Galaxies is a HUGE improvement graphics wise from Game Cube and definitely the N64.
3. The controls is not difficult to use.. you complain as if it were a burden throughout the whole game. Its all a matter of getting used to (which takes 15 mins). But also it can just be a matter of preference.
4. Mario has the same music rehashed from the 1990s Wrong! You know what makes mario so great, its because of those theme songs that we know. However, Mario Galaxies have a variety of new songs, even the main room is a new song with a beautiful full scale orchestra. This proves you havent played SMG

It's not the same game as Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine because both of those games play very differently from each other and Super Mario Galaxy plays very differently from both of those. And there aren't even 120 stars in the game, there are 242.
Compared to the hardware is running on, Super Mario Galaxy's graphics is a technical marvel.

Rehashed music? You have not played Super Mario Galaxy, because the music in that game is ALL NEW scores. Only a couple of tracks are from past games, most of the 30+ musical scores in the game are ALL NEW.

I'm a Wii basher as of lately due to the fact that the software is lacking...but Super Mario Galaxy is a great game. I got it for Christmas and Im definitely enjoying it. The level design is spectacular, the graphics are the best on the Wii, and the music is rehashed from the 90s? WHO CARES! Its Mario. I love the old Mario tunes as does everyone else that grew up with the fat plumber. I think my only complaint about this game is its wayyyyy too easy. I have 32 stars and have yet to face any sort of challenge. Personally, my GOTY is probably BioShock though. Mario Galaxy and Orange Box close 2nd and 3rd. None of the games you listed are GOTY contenders. Halo 3 is rather disappointing, Mass Effect has technical issues, Forza & PGR are racing games...those dont win GOTY. GOTY generally brings something new to the table and does it with a level of polish only a handful of games achieve each year.

The challenge is after you get 70 stars.
I'm at 80 stars and I have gotten multiple Game Over's in one level, something that has never happened in the first 70 stars.

If this is a joke thread, :lol: If this isn't a joke thread then wow. Your saying that the game shouldn't have been goty because it's on the wii and has limited functionality when it comes to designing the game? That's the biggest load of BS ever. Let me counter your points. 1) How is it a rehash? Because it has the same objective as it's predecessors? Then you could also qualify Halo 3, Forza 2 and any other good sequals that have come out as "rehashes". Your logic is extremely flawed. The game re-invented platforming with great level design, perfect difficulty for both hardcore fans and newcomers, and great visuals. 2) First of all, you can't blame Galaxy for being "last gen" graphics. It can only do what the wii is capable of and even with that it looks great. IMO it looks better then gears, because it's so artistically better. Gears is very dull, grey, and boring, not to say it isn't a good game. SMG is very bright, with a lot of cool looking enemies, bosses, etc. There's so much to see in tis game with such a huge variety you'd have to be an ignorant fanboy to say that it looks bad. 3) The controls are perfect. Pointing at the screen to collect star bits is fine, and you don't even use that wiimote's aiming function that much. Most is done by the buttons themselves and the shaking of the controller. The controls work perfectly and aren't too touchy but not too tight. There are perfect. 4) Mario's music is some of the greatest gaming music of all time. Everyone knows the Mario theme's. Not only did they get original music for some parts of the games, but they remixed some old music and even have original's of older music, such as some music from SMB 3. I'm pretty sure(?) that they had a full orchestra for this game so it sound beautiful. You talk about rehashes yet then praise Halo 3. A lot of music from Halo 3 is the exact same from Halo. I can't even recall a new song in Halo 3. 5 or 6 as you like to call it) Your asking for story in a mario game? Wow. That's the saddest thing I have ever heard. If your honestly expecting an amazing story from Mario games, please don't play them at all. The game is meant to be fun, not to be an 80-hour epic. The point of the game is to be able to just pick it up and play it, and it work beautifully. Overall, Galaxy was my favourite game of the year and I played everyone one of those nominee's for at least maybe 6 hours. The reason why it was my favourite is because it's the only game where everything is just fun. Let me counter your points. 1) How is it a rehash? Because it has the same objective as it's predecessors? Then you could also qualify Halo 3, Forza 2 and any other good sequals that have come out as "rehashes". Your logic is extremely flawed. The game re-invented platforming with great level design, perfect difficulty for both hardcore fans and newcomers, and great visuals. 2) First of all, you can't blame Galaxy for being "last gen" graphics. It can only do what the wii is capable of and even with that it looks great. IMO it looks better then gears, because it's so artistically better. Gears is very dull, grey, and boring, not to say it isn't a good game. SMG is very bright, with a lot of cool looking enemies, bosses, etc. There's so much to see in tis game with such a huge variety you'd have to be an ignorant fanboy to say that it looks bad. 3) The controls are perfect. Pointing at the screen to collect star bits is fine, and you don't even use that wiimote's aiming function that much. Most is done by the buttons themselves and the shaking of the controller. The controls work perfectly and aren't too touchy but not too tight. There are perfect. 4) Mario's music is some of the greatest gaming music of all time. Everyone knows the Mario theme's. Not only did they get original music for some parts of the games, but they remixed some old music and even have original's of older music, such as some music from SMB 3. I'm pretty sure(?) that they had a full orchestra for this game so it sound beautiful. You talk about rehashes yet then praise Halo 3. A lot of music from Halo 3 is the exact same from Halo. I can't even recall a new song in Halo 3. 5 or 6 as you like to call it) Your asking for story in a mario game? Wow. That's the saddest thing I have ever heard. If your honestly expecting an amazing story from Mario games, please don't play them at all. The game is meant to be fun, not to be an 80-hour epic. The point of the game is to be able to just pick it up and play it, and it work beautifully. Overall, Galaxy was my favourite game of the year and I played everyone one of those nominee's for at least maybe 6 hours. The reason why it was my favourite is because it's the only game where everything is just fun. At some points in the other games, I got frustrated at parts and wondered why the game developer would do something like that. I wish to give my two cents on GS GOTY and how I feel about it. I think GS dropped the ball really bad this year. With games like Halo 3, Mass Effect, Forza 2, PGR4, and other great games on the Xbox 360, I feel that GS has been paid by or have become fanboys of a console that can't do 1080p, has no online, has a bad community, and over-all has bad games. I fail to see how GS sides when Nintendo on this when all they do is hype and hype. I have a couple of reasons why Mario does NOT deserve GOTY.1. It's rehashed, it's the same game as Mario 64 and Sunshine. I have collected all 120!!! (I WAS THINKING OF POKEMON, MY BAD!) stars in the game, so don't say I haven't played it.
2. The graphics are last gen. I'm sorry, but with games like Gears, Forza 2, and Halo 3, I fail to see how Mario gets GOTY with it's last-gen graphics. My personal opinion.
3. The controls aren't that great. Now, with the 360 controller, it responds really well and you don't have to worry about a gimmic. Sorry, I am just not a fan of the remote.
4. Mario's music is the same rehashed tune from 1990s, I feel that just because a game rehashes sounds/music, it shouldn't be praised for it. Games like Halo 3 use a Hollywood A list music studio. I own all the Halo Soundtracks and I can say that Halo has the best music in gaming history.
6. The story is done poorly in Mario. There is close to no story in the game.
As you can see from the statements above, you can now see why there is something fishy in GS. How can Mario win GOTY when games come out that do much more. In terms of sales, Mario hasn't done that well. I think maybe this is Nintendo's way to boost up sales.

1. Halo 3 and Forza 2 aren't rehashes. 6 million copies sold on one day. Forza 2 is the GT game that should've been. How the hell is that rehashed?
2. This is the generation of Gears, Halo 3, and Mass Effect quality graphics. Then again, I guess you get what you pay for when you buy a Wii.
3. No dude, the Wii Remote sucks a lot. Half the time it doesn't even work for me.
4. Ah dude, all the Halo 3 songs are different and newly done. It's the same Mario music from the 70s.
5. I'm dropping 7000円 for a game, I want a story. Halo 3 has it and it's cheaper than SMG. Halo 3 also sold 6 million copies in one day.
