I am primarily talking about the Shooters/RPG genres (where both system excels).

Some of the games that have same date releases:

Bioshock - 9.0 on 360, and PC

Fallout 3: 9.0 on 360 and PC

Orange Box: 9.5 on 360 and PC

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare: 9.0 on 360 and PC

Oblivion: 9.3 on PC, 9.6 on 360

Games with different release dates:

GeoW: 9.6 on X360, 9.0 on PC (released 1 year later)

Mass Effect: 8.5 on 360, 9.0 on PC (near 6 months later)

Grand Theft Auto 3: 9.6 on PS2, 9.3 on PC (near 7 months later)

If GS rates Console games on a lower standard than PC, then the score gap of similar games would be more visible (ex. an AAA game on consoles would not be AAA on PC).

The old system retained the standards, the new one eliminates them.

Because the PC versions are improved enough (graphically) to be the same score..?

The PC has higher standards in the eyes of gamers. Many PC gamers have been very disappointed to see their games "consolized". This means that the games skip on intuitive features and more polished gameplay in favor of more user friendly gameplay and interaction.

I think it does apply to some genre's. RTS for example, standards on PC are insanely high compared to console.

These days with FPS/RPG i'd say no, standards are the same. Saying that like someone said, players do have higher standards.

Also, don't just look at scores to determine the better versions. Read the reviews. GS claimed PC Oblivion was the best version, time has proved this with mods yet they scored it lower. Same goes for Fallout 3. Gears is another wxample, it scored lower yet they state its the best version on PC.

Standards can fall as much as they rise. The RPG and FPS genres have practically evened out over the last couple of years.

PC games has standards with other PC games, consoles with its particular console, and so on, so on.

You do have to realise though that games are generally reviewed relevent to the platform. For example, Farcry 2 recieved the same score on 360 and PC. However PC version looks much much better. IF however the PC version at max looked the same as the 360 version im sure it would have scored lower on the PC. Even though they were identical you would just expect more from a PC game. Same goes for controls etc.

Depends on the genre, the reviewer and the target audience.

On the PC, a console FPS ported over would probably not appeal at all to the playerbase and they'd consider it bad. Attempt the same thing with a PC FPS to console and console players would probably find it hard to get into or something.

It's pretty much true. Far Cry 2 would have been so much better if it was built just for the pc only.

STALKER would probably have gotten low marks on console, while (insert arcade racer here) may get lower marks on PC. Generally though, in this age of multiplatform releases, it's even, except where crappy ports are concerned (*cough* SupremeCommander 360 port*cough*). But that's nothing to do with the system's standards, just someone doing a half-arsed job porting it.
