Well since i dont remember Caseys thread having this i figured i would have a thread about it. That is the whole complaing about "less collors"=bad.
1st of, Artstlye is not there to be colorful and make u happy, it sets the tone of the game if anything or atleast the tone of the environment you are in.
For example Halo had multiple colors. The ship, the library, the mission you had to put the index in the thing(you all know what im talking about) wasnt very coloful, it was very mechanical. Then there is the 2nd level of Halo, when you first land on Halo. It was meant to show a beautiful environment that nobody knows about and doesnt expect something dangerous out of. Halo doesnt have color for the sake of color, it has it to match the tone and environment. Halo 3 is colorful but i bet it will get metalic and a bit more darker toned as the game goes on.
Gears of War is my next example. Why is this game dark and grey. Because the World in Gears is a ruined mess. All there is, is war and fear of the locust. The skies are covered with nemsyst. The buildings and surroundings are destroyed. The last remaining soldiers are covered in metalic gear. I mean the soldiers would look pretty "flaming" if there gear was all a mix of blue, green, yellow, and pink or something. The few times Gear shows beauty is in the garden area and the sculptures. But the theme of Gears is basically the end of the world. So why be bright for a game like that. U need a darker tone to set the mood.
This applies to MGS 4 as well. Snake is dieing. The world is at war. THey are in the middle east(i mean there is going to be alot of sand) why be colorful for that.
now Ratchet and Mario Galaxy are colorful because the idea behind those games is a more cartoonish feel. Same with a game like Kameo.
rpgs like FF, Blue Dragon,Lost Odyssey, Eternal SOnota, etc are colorful to have fantasy worlds and all that stuff.
So stop complaining about dark toned games, because no form of artst.yle is wrong. THe artst.yle is only there to set the tone and theme of the game.
