NOTE: DUE TO GAMESPOT BEING A ****, I WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE THE LIST OF GAMES IN THE THREAD. I WANTED TO PUT THEM IN SPOILER TAGS BUT WAS UNABLE TO DO SO. IF YOU WISH TO KNOW WHAT GAMES I USED: ASK AND I SHALL PROVIDE!
Good morning, afternoon, and evening my fellow Gamespot travellers -- or SystemWars Warriors. It is I -- Stevo_the_gamer -- who is going to bring something to light that I believe everyone needs to see. Now, I will not lie to you, your mind might explode while reading/looking at what I am about to show you. These images are not for the feeble minded, they are not for the individuals who's head is still in the sand. No, sirs and madams, tis' not for them at all.
We have came to a crossroad, yes we have. It appears there is a mentality on SystemWars that a certain specific console and its library of games. The mentality rests that the majority of its games are found on PC. I'm going to discuss about that stereotype, and outline what the real look of it truly is. Is it true? Is is false? I guess we'll find out, now won't we?
This thread relies on a few basic things. First off, this thread will utilize Gamespot and Gamespot only as its source. Meaning, all the games shown in here are shown because they are in Gamespot's database. If a game has not been reviewed, or hasn't released yet. You will not see it on the list. It's only fair that way, and just makes things much easier on myself. Call me lazy, I won't mind. Hehe.
We see this myth a lot. And it's used primarily to bash the Xbox 360. In fact, tis' one of the most influential -- so to speak -- reasons why some people are avoiding the Xbox 360. Preferences come into play, that is a valid complaint. Saying you wish console X over console Y because of its exclusives is another preference concern, and is definitely valid. Saying you don't want console X because the majority of its games are on another system is not a valid complaint. I'm here to explain why.
Time to get into the nitty-gritty numbers.
Gamespot has currently, as of Friday, February 05, 2010 at 1:52 P.M. Pacific Standard Time, reviewed 467 Xbox 360 games. I have decided to break these numbers down into four categories: Xbox 360 Exclusives, PC/Xbox 360 Only Games, Games that are not exclusive, but do not appear on PC, and finally, the rest of PC shared games that appear on the Xbox 360 and another platform.
Here's how the numbers look:
As you can see, those touting the majority of Xbox 360 games are on PC -- well, they'are actually RIGHT. As the above shows, the majority of Xbox 360 games can be found on PC. A whopping 54% of the available games on the Xbox 360 are found on the PC. That means...
Let that sink in.

Done? NO!
There is more. I'm not done here, no sir, I am not done at all. You see, we're in a generation which is dominated by multiplatform games. We are. There is no denying that, if you own a Xbox 360 or a PS3, the majority of the games are definitely multiplatform. The Wii and PC are special in that regard, so I won't dissect them. But the PS3? Yes, let's now dissect the PS3!
Let's try the same experiment that I did with the Xbox 360. We'll go through Gamespot's database and add every single PS3 game that has been reviewed. The latest review added into the diagram was MAG, so it should be up to date when I post this. Now, I forgot to mention last time that XBLA and PSN games do NOT -- I repeat -- DO NOT get included into the follow data.
Let's seperate the PS3's library into four categories: Exclusives, PS3/PC Games, Multiplatform Games not found on PC, and Games that are found on PC with a few other platforms. Gamespot has currently reviewed 321 PS3 games.
What's that? The majority of games on PS3 games are NOT -- I repeat -- NOT shared by PC? Now, here's why I posted this. If you notice anything about the two above graphs is that how large the amount of multiplatform games there are. I mean, in reality, the PS3 fans who "tout" their lineup and bash the Xbox 360's lineup are missing one very important thing. There's a higher percentage of PC shared games than exclusives, and non-shared PC games. Of course, if you add the exclusives and non-shared PC multiplatform games, it beats the PC shared by a whopping four percent. Think of how close that is when you look at the nitty-grittyness of these numbers.
Lesson to be learned: Quit placing so much emphasis on "System x sucks because it shares so many games with system y." The PS3 and Xbox 360's exclusive lineup are a very, very small minority compared to the other sections -- a la multiplatform games.
RAWR. DISCUSS!
