I'm sure I forgot some. And most of those games above actually became franchises with superior sequels...
Time for my wall of words in why ps had better games.
First of all I loved the 64, and it DID have great games, but the list just doesnt compare..here is the list of 64 games:
Goldeneye
OOT
Smash bros 1 / 2
mario 64
F zero x
mario kart 64
and thats all i can think of.. now for PS1
Tekken series
Crash Bandicoot series..not crash bash tho
FF 7 / 8 (didnt like 9 much fore me to care)
GTourismo 1 / 2
Jet Moto
Bloody Roar 1 / 2 / 3
Para Rapa the rapper
Castlevania SOTN
and I dont want to make this list any longer.. Dont get me wrong I'd love BOTH of those consoles in my game library but Id go with ps1 personally.
The N64 had many more memorable games, basically because of Nintendo and their 2nd party support. Mario 64, Zelda OoT, GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, Banjo, Smash, Starfox 64, Zelda MM, and many others.
The PS1 had the better selection, but as it is with most all Nintendo consoles, when games hit... they were GOOD!!!!
PS1 by far, it had second best lineup of games ever (after PS2). FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, RE1, RE2, RE3, Silent Hill, Tekken 1,2,3 , Vagrant Story, GT1,2, Xenogears, Grandia, Final Fantasy Tactics, Chrono Cross, Castlevania:Sotn, MGS1 Also ports of best SNES games (Chrono Trigger and FFVI). I love rpg's, and its sad theres no great rpg on n64 at all.
There was games on N64 that were good, but comparing to PS1 list of greateness, its meh.
its not fair to compare n64 and ps1 because that time of period of gaming is where we get amazing games. i vote for both
I think a better question would be: "What generation was the best?
1. N64/PS1 generation
2. PS2/Xbox/Gc generation
3. Xbox 360/PS3/Wii generation.
I have little doubt that most individuals would choose the first option over the latter ones.
I would have agreed with you if the PS1 didn't have so many over rated sports games.
So in the end, the PS was clearly better.DireToad

Fixed for the games I can remember.
Also N64 had games with better replay value in my opinion..
Sport and fighting games shouldn't be on the list. As soon as the sequel is out, no one goes back to play the original.
RPGs, Adventures, platformers, and FPSes are the only genres that should be on the list.
A lot of people like PS better. They were both amazing gaming systems, despite the PS totally destroying it in sales.
I am a more biased towards the N64 because i have only experianced around 15 PS games, not all of them were some of the best PS games.
But i do enjoy the N64 more.

Why? :? Just because a particular game has a sequel or update doesn't take away the fact that its a valid and enjoyable game in it's own right does it?
PS1 had far more "Good" games but I thought the N64 had the "Best" games.
Since the FF series is complete trash, the only redeeming games I found to be "Great" on the PS1 were Resident Evil 1 and 2 and MGS.
With the N64 I had Oot, MM, Goldeneye, PD, Mario 64, and Banzo Kazooie, the best Platformer ever IMO.

Tony Hawk, Madden, and Fifa were all terrible game series. Tekken, along with Wave Race 64 and 1080 snowboarding, were incredibly over-rated and bland games in their own right as well.
I don't know anyone who still plays the original titles. they're all playing the sequels to them.
Take Ocarina of Time and FF7 and you'll find a whole HOST of people who play them. Heck, people still play Super Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie. Sports titles have no such merits.
N64 idk how people could see the games on the ps1 that graphics were so poor.
and Goldneye and perfect dark >>>>>> Ps lineup

It was all about the RPgs back then. Japs people love RPGs and so do many Americans. Back then was really when RPG games were changing and hitting it good in 3D/2D.
PS1 duh,There was FF8,and FF7. Metal Gear Solid, and other crap i cant remeber xD! N64 had Golden eye and Smash bros. PS1 had Resident evil 1 2 3. N64 had 1 and 2 jus not 3. PS1 still cause i had that thing since forever :) still got it. its in the closet tho but its going to be there forever.Hitamaru-homiaIt only had Resident Evil 2 and there was supposed to be Resident Evil 0 but was not released.

You're kind of missing the point.TH,Madden,Fifa,Tekken etc might have been overrated to you,but other people might have really enjoyed them(maybe the reason thay bought a particular console?)when they were released, regardless of whether there was a sequel or they don't play them anymore.By your logic I completed Zelda OOT once then never went back to it so that can't be on the list even though it's one of the most critically acclaimed games ever made.
