Name a game series that was top notch but now has gone "downhill" sinc

here are my picks:

Need for speed- NFS Undergound 1 and 2 was great, most wanted was good but the last 2 just totally stink. Carbon and pro street are a disgrace to the need for speed name.

Metal Gear Solid- Metal Gear solid 1 was nothing less then a true masterpiece. MGS 2 was good but kinda strange. Metal Gear solid 3 I believe just stunk. Later substance came out and got higher reviews but playing as big boss with the camo was boring.

Halo. Halo 1 great, Halo 2 had an iffy SP but excellent MP. Halo 3 was meh'ish personally.

Final Fantasy. I think it reached a plateau of awesomeness at IX and has been going down ever since.

But other notables for me, Bubsy, Final Fight, Ghosts and Goblins, HMm... hmm.... surely there are more recent examples? Oh the NBA 2K series. I kind of think that Zelda may be on the way down. I know that's really debatable since the TP was solid but the gameplay mechanics haven't changed much since OoT. I mean they can't just put Link into space like they did with Mario so the next iteration better be something mindblowing or it will feel like the same game with a different coat. :P

sonic has to be one of the most obvious

another is pro evo .. it used to be head and shoulders above FIFA IMO, but there's been little progression

either FIFA games are getting better, or pro evo games are getting worse/staying the same, or both

also, i know there've only been two games in the series, but you could say perfect dark as well .. the drop in quality between the two is shocking

This is the definition of "milkage." Just like WW2 games. If people keep buying them then they'll keep making them and over time the game sucks.

Madden is another huge one.

Prince of Persia went to trash in a hurry after Sands of Time.

Final Fantasy

FF used to be my favorite series. I would always defend it when haters dissed it. But the games after FFX changed that. FFCC, FFXI, FFXII and FF X-2.

11 was good but not excellent in it's on right, and I will not waste my time talking of the faults of the others exept for 12.

12 was basically an offline MMO with a flat story. Still a great game, but if your gameplay is like a offline MMO, do it right. Anyone who hasn't played WoW or GW may not know what I'm talking about. But for someone who has played a true MMO then got ahold of FFXII's average gameplay.. yeah.

Devil May Cry

DMC1 was amazing. Never got to play 2. 3 was great. 4.. Well it's good but it feels stale and generic now. They tried to take notes from GoW and SoTC with huge boss fights but really, only the Fire demon one is done right. Shame on Capcom for ripping off GOW2's colossial statue boss and NOT doing it right!!

Hmm I don't see whats with ppl and dissing MGS.

Yeah the controls and Snakes animations SUCK. But everything else was excellent.

If MGS4 controls and movement animations finally step into the 21st century I cannot percieve any valid criticisms if they do everything else fine.
