Not of fan of games lacking a jump button..I dont know why, I just get annoyed that I cant even freaking jump. Also, random encounters, and turn based battle systems. Not a fan. Steakdinner
and this i hate when i must go around 20 meters just because i cant jump over 20 cm obstacle (like in resident evil 4 or fable etc)

When I download a patch and it ends up making the game turn from great to frustrating *looks at Neverwinter Nights 2 and COD4* Also severe drops in framerate.

Devs trying to do too much with the graphics that the technical problems coming out of it ruins the whole experience.

FEAR2 demo in this case, I'm not getting the game.

Missables, steep learning curves. In other words, games that forces you to look at guides.Zerocrossings

i agree with this in full. i hate having only one opportunity to do something big, get certain items, etc.

Regenerating health

Removes any challenge of the game - if there's no challenge I don't see a reason to play it.

This is why modern shooters suck so hard.

I'm mainly a twitchy, online FPS player, but I enjoy a good single player game that has a good story. If it's bad, and/or has bad voice acting, that just ruins the game for me.

Framerate dips below 24 fps. Game breaking glitches can be funny and entertaining... framerate issues are a severe annoyance.

My main gripe is controls. If a game has bad controls, I hardly give it any chance. It has to draw me in long enough for me to get used to the controls at least. For some reason, MGS games can't do it. Maybe cause it takes too long to get through all the cutscenes and the talking before you actually get to do anything that I just can't play it for more than an hour. I mean for an action game, it has sooo much dialog. I can only tolerate it in an RPG. Another is something that happened to me in FF XII and only XII. Having enemies that I have the possibility to fight, yet should not be fighting at all. Seeing that Dinosaur, as soon as I am free to roam around, that I took like one HP from each attack and he took like 1000 when I barely had 150 hp. Ok but that was no big deal. But I enter another part of the game where there were these fire ball looking things in which none of my attacks or magic took no hp from them and yet they took nearly most of my characters life. Why the the heck where they in my sight so early in the game when I had no business fighting them at all. I was furious cause of course they killed me after running around for five minutes trying to get away from them. And my save point was so far back... it literally made me turn off the game and I don't think I played anymore from then on.

Yeah this ruined Dead Rising for me to. The game could've been soo much fun. But the bad saving system made playing it sort of a chore.

- poor/inferior lights and shadow system (undersandable on low-end and some mainstrean PC with low(er) options, but lack of shadow casting on higher PC is annoying like in Fallout 3 is annoying)

- either highly liniear gameworld and gameplay or high repetitive open gameworld with highly liniear missions/objectives/quests ( Peter Jackson's King Kong and Far Cry 2/PoP on the other side)

Glitches or bugs.

Gears 2 had a lot in the campaign. I had a couple of spawns on top of the level after dying. Luckily it happened n co-op only so all my buddy had to do is to get to the next checkpoint. Still very annoying when it happens.

Another example is when you're at that monster in the lake. The tentacles attack the boat, I rolled forward and couldn't move after the roll animation. So the tentacle pulled the boat down. Happened a couple of times as well.

The following aren't exactly flaws, but I hate 'em in games:

Bad vehicle levels

Escort missions where you have to protect your stupid AI partner

Time trial missions.

Two examples in particular. The fact theres no simple restart option in Burnout Paradise (though i think thats coming in a patch?) and the save system in Dead Rising. I havent bought either games due to these annoyances.

Graphical lock-ups when there's alot going on onscreen

Crappy Multiplayer

Control issues that make you wonder how much drugs the developers were doing (RE4-5)

Continued Gameplay that requires DLC and excludes the end-user that doesn't have it. (Halo 3)

Indeed,but I wouldn't go as far as saying random enemy encounters outright "ruin" every game for me (unless it's completely and utterly excessive).Usually,it just leaves a bad taste or slight disappointment in a game that is otherwise well-designed.Final Fantasy VI Advance comes to mind.

Mine? Not being able to see your own feet in an fps; Really, if someone here understands coding and performance talk and can explain why your feet seem to be almost always absent from an fps, then please say it and I'll happily shut up about this problem. Just add them, I hate feeling like an orb.

Another would be about crapping all over the single player gaming market. Dont short on a great single player for some last second hand me down(aka l4d, dont jump on that people, please heh heh)

Graphics being trading for fun and game factors. Thats all I have to say. If you can do both, be my guest but dont make the game a powerhouse if Im never going to want to play it again.

This 2 weapon system. Get the hell out of here with that trendy rubbish. Be unique, Resistance 1 went old school and it couldn't have been better. Cant say the same for R2 (ok game btw). Hell get three weapons like the first killzone, I dont care just stop biting off of mediocre ideas that only fit certain types of games.

Another would be a.i. Im tired of these half assed a.i enemies in games. Get it right or stop the game right now. Fear 1, for petes sake...still better than half the ai out today. Half life, of course, stalker, Halo, killzone2; I was literally shocked too at how good Kz2 ai is for being a ps3 powerhouse title) I know the main ones like mgs4 and uncharted were givens to have good ai when CONSIDERING their type of genre and feel/Creator's creativity but kz2 duck taped my mouth from spewing more doubt. Not that I really doubted it that much to begin with. Bad ai, and even though I love the game to death, I still have to point out motorstorm 1. When the ai near the end of the game is fully concentrated on teaming up (literally) and happily sacrificing themselves (literally), instead of winning the race, you have a problem. Red steel, wii game or not... I have to point that out too, yuck. When it comes down to it, I dont have to explain what makes good/bad ai. Its obvious and it does make or break a game.

I used to be picky about alot more things. I notice alot more than the average joe when not going all techwiz since I'll fall flat on my face there :lol:....but as time keeps moving and I keep getting older, Im starting to pay more attention to the good details, and artistic value in creativity, look, feel, and vibe that games and movies give away. Its easy to see games for what they are now and give them the respect they deserve.

Useless party members, specificly the ones you have to level up in order to progress through the later levels. They're one of the reasons I've pretty much given up on JRPGs, although I'm really enoying Chrono Trigger right now.

Random Battles (JRPG) Always annoys me, but in Pokemon it's good for catching Pokemon and you know which parts have battles so it's not so bad.

What the TC listed (getting stuck in a portion of the game where you cannot go back and level up), and another that annoys me is invisible walls. If I see an enemy and I shoot, it should hit him. Invisible wall suck. Along with that idea, poor hit detection.

Besides that first gripe though, it does not ruin the game, but jusst annoys me. The first gripe though can break the game if you didn't have alot of save points as backup. Its also one of the reasons i keep multiple saves of RPGs and other similar games at all times.

I'd have to say lack of local multiplayer, there were SOOOOOO many games on ps2 that had this, but this gen it's like they're forcing you to play online, and most of my friends have 360's and not ps3's so it really kills the value of some games for me

example: last gen i had games like SSBM, 007: Nightfire, SW: Battlefront 1/2, Soul Caliber 2/3 where i could wake up saturday morning and play them with my brother for a couple hours, and this gen i havent seen many games with local multiplayer like this on 360/ps3 (Wii has a decent amount though)

no button config. for dual stick shooters im looking at you gears 1 n 2 that sucks that i had to play right handed through both of those games because if i switched it to southpaw the cover/action button was right above the move stick couldnt do it!!! would of been nice if i could of switched with one of the shoulder buttons and used southpaw. also not been able to swap sticks (BIOSHOCK)!!! EVERY GAME SHOULD HAVE CUSTOM CONFIGURATIONS!!!!

For me it has to be when you enter an area you can't leave at the end of a game. If your underpowered your screwed. Also the icing on the cake for this is when afterwards they make you do some stupid event that if you screw up, you must start from scratch. The latest game I've played to be an offender of this design flaw, Parasite Eve. Hard boss battle, win, run from creture, DON'T TURN RIGHT, DON'T TURN FRICKEN RIGHT, you'll thank me later. Mine Since I haven't played parasite eve 1, is parasite eve 2, the ark is so ridicolously hard, it's almost near impossible

To name a few:

  • Save points
  • Unskippable cutscenes
  • Unpausable cutscenes (especially incredibly long ones)

yeah, i remember the final boss fight in MGS4 aganist liquid is unpausable, and the ending credits are unskippable, that was really annoying cuz it was so long.

Twisted Metal Black and the new psp one. The turning when driving in reverse was opposite from real life driving or any other racing game that ever existed. What were they thinking?!

Camera angles. Absolutely hate them. If a game has bad camera angles it becomes unplayable for me.
