[QUOTE="Shift05"]I dont know why everybody is saying Wii sports, its not like its the only game to use motion controlls for a sports game.Shift05

It introduced an entirely new market to gaming.

What new market?

There has been a market for sports games before Wii sports came out.

Non-gamers.

I think he meant that it brought alot of the younger generation and alot of the older people to get back into gaming.

It sure did with my family, my dad and stuff began to play it.

The Wii has outsold the 360's headstart in only one year. There's a lot more people buying the console because of that game than people who bought the Gamecube. On top of that, the game is simple and something anybody can enjoy, young and old alike.

the Non-gamers market was always around. Many non-gamers play games like solitare, etc... Nintendo is just pushing the non-gamer market more than the other companies, but they didn't create it.

Thats is flawed because there been a marker for many games, doesn't make adding a different scheme or a different way to play them any less innovative.

Would those people have ever purchased a console solely for videos games?

I didn't say its not selling, but selling alot doesnt mean that it is a new market. Look at halo for example, its selling alot yet people don't say its creating a new market.

Well I believe that every console introduces Non-gamers into video gaming, if non of them did, then the number of sales for consoles would never grow each gen. How did people begin to play video games without Wii sports if it is the only game which brought in Non-gamers?

120 million people bought the PS2 without Wii sports so I believe there are many games which can do this.

I cant view your second link, but all you showed me was that an existing market (casual gamers) is buying Wii sports, I still dont see what new market you are talking about.

Have they been so groundbreaking?n A great deal wants to play Wii for just simple ol' Wii Sports. Its a game that I felt like I haven't played before or any others previous didn't really register. The innovation is how well it been played outin this simple game, how well wanted, and how well enjoyed. It may not be in the eyes of other people, but it feels quite the innovation to me, and think it does to a grand deal of people.

From the first link.

"The Wii has done a rare thing - it's encouraged people who normally wouldn't even consider playing a computer game to pick up a Wiimote (the motion-sensitive remote control) and give it a go."

From the second link.

""I've never been into video games," said 72-year-old Flora Dierbach last week as her husband took a twirl with the Nintendo Wii's bowling game. "But this is addictive.""

Super Paper Mario was revolutionary, not because of the Wii though. But how many games can you go from 3D to 2D at anytime?

Metroid Prime 3. Rather than behind the visor you're inside the suit. Super Paper Mario. Mixing 2d and 3d platforming.

And are any of those games simple enough for anyone to enjoy? The thing that makes Wii Sports so unique is that it's one controller that you use for all the games. The Wii is a combination of simplicity and motion controls.

I think that they are simple enough for anyone, If you understand how to play the sport to which the games corresponds with then you should know hot to play it. As well since these games are for one sport only, there controllers are better suited for each sport and therefore can be better executed.

Same as every game on any other console. They all use buttons and nearly the same control scheme.

Simplicity as in not having to hook up 5 peripherals to your television in order to play each game.

Regardless, Wii Sports is revolutionary because it offers a level of simplicity that has attracted people who wouldn't even consider playing a game before. There is no way around it.

Well... Super Paper Mario was the first game (or at least first platformer) to let the player switch between 2D and 3D... I think....

is that what you mean? >_>

I wouldn't say Paper Mario for Wii is revolutionary just because of the 2D to 3D gameplay.

Hell even PSP's Crush does a better job of implementing it.

And are any of those games simple enough for anyone to enjoy? The thing that makes Wii Sports so unique is that it's one controller that you use for all the games. The Wii is a combination of simplicity and motion controls.

iunderstand

I think that they are simple enough for anyone, If you understand how to play the sport to which the games corresponds with then you should know hot to play it. As well since these games are for one sport only, there controllers are better suited for each sport and therefore can be better executed.

Simplicity as in not having to hook up 5 peripherals to your television in order to play each game.

Regardless, Wii Sports is revolutionary because it offers a level of simplicity that has attracted people who wouldn't even consider playing a game before. There is no way around it.

We have gone from revolutionary because it sales, to now its revolutionary because its simple. Just because its simple doesn't mean its the best in its genre.

None of them have. Because the system's been out for less than one year. :|

After the laughable launch, did you expect the console to live up to the hype? Honestly, the hype was dropped down by entire levels after the launch, and the huge letdown of about four games that were supposed to be the starting cornerstones of the big genre reinventions and about four other games that didn't do as well or were just hastily made spin offs to cash in were said to mostly suck.

Give it some time.

NOTE: I'm talking about here. Not sales.

There isn't one IMO. The only thing revolutionary about the Wii is its controllers, which aren't revolutionary either, there almost this. Some of the Mario games look very nice, though.

No, not really. MP for the gamecube is though.

Depends how you look at it; MP3 had the best console FPS controls.

We have gone from revolutionary because it sales, to now its revolutionary because its simple. Just because its simple doesn't mean its the best in its genre.

Revolutionary has nothing to do with being the best of it's genre. A revolution is something inciting a great change. Wii Sports simplified the control scheme thus luring many people who wouldn't normally play a game and thus creating a great change.

A game that creates a whole new market is revolutionary. A game that follows the same beaten path of every other game and improves in small ways is not.
