You guys must live in some super small places. I'm no billionaire but my living room is more than large enough for that. Even when I had an apartment, the living room was big enough for this.

I guess Natal is a no no for black people living in studio apartments then.

I didn't know SW consisted of 'black people living in studio apartments'

I'm sorry? Did I make any reference to the other posts in this thread or to system wars? No, I didn't. I was referring to the problems Natal has with recognizing black people.

wait, aren't studio apartments the ones with the large open spaces?

Nah, If I'm not mistaken, which I usually am. Studio apartments are known for being quite small.

So you plan to just move all your **** every time you want to game? Sorry some of us actually can afford furniture and things called lamps/tables lol. I can see myself explaining to my wife, sorry hun.....we have to take out all this stuff so I can game with Natal. Not only that most people probably game in their bedrooms. Are you telling people to basically just move all thier **** out and sleep on the floor? What's funny is I just read from another poster.......first Sony tried to tell people to get another job when they couldn't afford the PS3 at launch........now here is MS telling you to buy a whole ****** new house lol. This better be a mistake because I'm sure as hell not moving everything everytime I want to play a game. That is just ridiculous. Something has to be lost in translation.

This isn't so bad for me. My couches are already 10 feet away, so moving them back a few more feet isn't in issue.

But, I don't have a 360, so the only time I'd use natal is if a mate brings it over anyway.

I believe four meters is the maximum (eg, it has trouble seeing you if you're more than 4 meters away). The minimum amount of space needed to play Natal depends on the placement of the sensor and the height of the user.

Seems like something is off with that statement, even their add had the family not to far away (only a meter or two away) not to count several of the given demonstrations. Plus to that this would be a clear over sight on the part of the engineers and programmers behind natal as obviously not everyone has that kind of space to give. .. As such I would say wait off judging doomsday until we hear more on this. At least another MS exec or demonstration about the space needed.

Are they serious?:| I don't have that amount of space in front of my TV, so if I had a 360 I would definitely not get Natal now. This could turn ugly for many.

If I have to move furniture around to accommodate playing a video game, then I'd rather just not play the game.

Well, it sounds more like this is the range of the sensor, so would be the ideal setting, so it needs a little clarification, BUT if you do need 13 feet of cleared space then I would have to move my TV outside in which case it would probably be too bright for Natal to even recognize anything, so it would be useless. The more I hear about their ideas for all this motion stuff, the less excited I get about it.

Natal is becoming more of a hassle than it is worth. Sony was right to stick with controllers for their motion stuff.

i doubt this is true, if the eyetoy can work at whatever distance and the milo demo had the woman standing pretty close i can't see this needing 4 metres. this will be to cover themselves when people stupidly kick their tv or table, the wii probably has something similar keeping a certain amount of distance around you, but you can sit a foot or so from the tv if you want. if this is true then it will be huge fail, but i doubt it.

THis is true man. The Milo demo yes the woman was standing close, the rest of the room though was EMPTY. Microsoft has always demoed Natal in huge rooms with lots of space. You can stand as close as you like, everything else must be clear. Eyetoy's technology is almost completely different to Natal so the comparison is irrelevant. The Wii has no distance requirments although the infra red cursor doesn't work withing 30cms (1 foot) or further back than about, oh, 10 metres. (28 fee)

FAIL

I've got a big glass/wood coffee table in front of my TV, I'm not moving that every time. I had the same problem with Wii Fit, now a dust collector.

Then there's also the fact that that Milo "demo" was faked (as were other aspects of the intro showing of Natal). A camera's field of view can be visualized as a cone eminating from the lense. So anything you want Natal to track must be in this cone and the distance required depends highly upon what needs to be tracked. At the fullest, for full body tracking, your height plus arm length up and to the side (plus more if you want to move around) must fall within the camera's view (and doubled side-wase if a second player is involved). Forward and back space must also be accounted for if you will be moving in that direction as well.

The part of keeping the area clear is not just for safety, but to not obstruct the camera's view, as well.

If this is true, how many of the potential natal buyers would actually know this information? Im pretty sure more than half of the people who bough the wii didnt know that it was mostly just "waggle" and were expecting a full 1:1 motion control...so as far as this affecting the natal sales I dont think it will at all, but it is extreme fail however

Wow, all these Sony fanboys can't do math. THAT IS 4 meters. Natal will reinvent the wheel for gaming and the weeaboos are just upset it's not $ony or Nintendo. Natal will outsell the Wii by the end of this year.

WTF? I actually play my 360 more than my PS3 and Wii

The length of a door is roughly 2.5 meters, that camera is a far far greater distance away than that. Learn.

I wonder if the real story is "Natal can see up to 4 meters!" instead of "Natal will require 4 meters :( ." You can bet Microsoft will respond to this incredible claim of vast size requirements for their new device. Until them, color me skeptical. I know the quotes came from someone on the Natal team, but you know, Techflash may have been trying to drum up some hits for their site. Seems like it worked out pretty well for them. And Kotaku? They called Sony racist for their giant crab remarks back at the Sony PS3 unveiling... now Sony won't ever speak to Kotaku again.

That is most definatly not 4 meters... that is 8 to 10 meters.

4 meters is a little more then 3/4 of the lenght of a full size sedan (5-5,5 meters)

I've never supported the NATAL idea since its inception. No matter how great it renders movements, without tactile input, it will feel empty and meaningless.

Really? That has to be a mistake.

I'm still optimistic about Natal and Move but I think Natal is the one that really needs to show how it's going to really work without a controller. EyeToy was really silly and I know the technology for Natal will better yet I think it's going to run into the same issues. Tactile input is important for a lot of people and how any action is communicated without it will be difficult.

Despite what the article implies, it is unlikely that many games will require you to utilise the technology's maximum range - I'm pretty sure that if we looked at Playstation Move and made the same assumptions it'd end up requiring considerably more space. I don't have 4 metres free in my gaming room, but I still intend to buy both Natal and Move because I think the technical specifications have been taken out of context.

yea thats what i was saying before..the demographic natal is aimed at wont even be aware of this information until they get the thing and have to rearrange their rooms to get it to work right...unless sony or microsoft launch attack commercials showing thelimitations of natal compared to their motion control devices

And like he said, the door is probably 2 meters tall, if you can only fit 2 doors in the space betwen that and the house your need glasses.

4 meters is way to much. I think its more like 4 feet. EDIT : Average size of a living room is ~ 5 by 5 meters and bedrooms are usually smaller than a living room. Just saying because it depends on where you game but 4 meters ???? Im calling this BS, MS wouldn't make a silly mistake like that.

That is not 4 meters thats more like 40

The height of a door is 2.5 meters

Thats not a Ramdom Picture I got that from a site Decoration For Garden

4Meters = 400CM

thats a bit over 13ft (most living rooms are 10fts ) From that Distace you cant even see your TV

I know how many centimeters are in 4 meters and that picture is wrong. Looks like sweden.
