It’s going to be highly amusing to watch the reactions and backpedaling when this hits of all those trying to pass this off as nothing but a resolution/frame-rate bump in making the argument $70 isn’t justified.
It may not be to some as that’s subjective, but stop intentionally ignoring the fact that this REMAKE is using TLoU II’s gameplay improvements, is introducing new weapons, model and environmental assets, areas to explore, modes (speed running), accessibility options, filters and gameplay modifiers. Perhaps those dumb, misinformed and gullible enough will believe none of that exists……doesn’t mean the position is nothing but based on ignorance and misinformation, and is thus hot garbage.
But hey, System Wars. Whatever fits the narrative to push the agenda.
I don't think anyone is arguing that. At least no one here is on sw is arguing that from all the posts. Whatever the case, I'll be picking it up on PC once it releases since I enjoyed it years ago on the ps3. Understandable arguing about the price, but I firmly believe, no price is too high for what one believes is worth the admission. Only if it is deemed worth it.
Not sure what you're seeing, but I'm seeing people arguing it all over the place:
"Whoever pays for this for full price is a fool. Just talk to a friend who has a PS4 and play the remastered version for free/cheaper."
"Rtx update for $70?"
"Sony fans have been okay with double dipping for next gen upgrades and paying $70 for their games, and treating re-releases like new releases. This is just more of the same."
"Now with the resolution that goes along with the generation. Last gen was 1080p! Now is 4K! Next gen is 8K! ffs..."
"A remaster of a remastered remaster or a 70 dollar graphical upgrade if you like."
"Pretty much. It’s the same game."
"Sadly it's easier to keep releasing a game over and over. I fell victim in the past over nostalgia, but no more."
"It is straight up a cash grab lol"
"This is a blatant cash grab."
"You hyped to replay this 5 times more?"
Just needed to wait to reply to you to prove the point. These quotes are operating on the implication and subtext that this is really nothing but the same game on next gen hardware, some of them explicitly stating so. It's far from it, as I noted in my OP. TLoU 1 is a narratively superior game, while TLoU II is mechanically superior. Combine them, sit back and profit for both the original game and for Sony.
As for a "cash grab".....well yeah, duh, God bless capitalism. Value is entirely subjective and that's another debate. It's a wonderful thing people don't have to buy it if they choose not to. But the work is 95% done. Level design, AI, audio, mechanics, characterization, all of it. All that's required is to transition what already exists from the second game into the framework of the original. The return on investment for the amount of labor, considering how beloved the original game is (and will sell).....to not make a remake would be incredibly financially foolish. And even those who argue that this is taking resources away from other properties....the amount of bank they're going to make on this relative to the amount of resources and time it took to do is going to increase their creative output in terms of financial freedom towards other projects, not lessen it.
This is a smart move. It pleases fans, it brings Sony truckloads of money for relatively marginal effort, and it polishes up the first game to par with the second.
