Naughty Dog hopes Uncharted 2 sells 2.5m+

D-Day for the launch of Uncharted 2 is rapidly descending upon us, with PS3 owners worldwide able to get their paws on Naughty Dog's new game in just under a week. Following the release of the multiplayer demo and the first reviews of game, the hype level has hit a feverish pitch. Will all this pre-release excitement convert into sales though? Naughty Dog certainly is banking on it, hoping the game manages to outsell the first game and do more than 2.5 million copies worldwide.

"We'd love to grow the franchise - that's the bottom line. No matter what you do it's always very difficult to grow from one game to another. And that's what our milestone is." said Naughty Dog Community Manager Arne Meyer during a recent interview. "If we can do better than we did with the previous game then we're set."

So what was that bar set by the first title? Naughty Dog revealed that Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, released in November 2007, did an impressive 2.5 million copies worldwide. Multiplayer designer Justin Richmond added "And then for this game hopefully it'll be higher."

I don't see why it wouldn't sell 2.5 million.... if it doesn't there is seriously something wrong with the PS3 userbase as a whole. Naughty Dog can count on at least 1 sale *money is burning a hole in my pocket*

Ahh... such a great year for games, and next year will be even better.... can't wait. I'm so pumped for Borderlands, Dragon Age: Origins & Uncharted 2.

i mean sales wise.. please read. Resistance FOM sold about 3.5M while Resistance 2 sold about 1.6M. Motorstorm sold about 3.4M while pacifict rift didnt even sell a million

with the install base being larger, PS3 being affordable and holiday season coming up, i dont see why U2 wont sell approx 2mill copies by end 2009.. so am pretty much positive about U2 selling3 - 3.5 million copies, considering i see bundles coming up in the future :)

ND dont worry your fantastic game will enjoy good sales... its the least PS3 owners can do, to thank you for your amazing work..

A PS3 at $299, a Naughty Dog fanbase going back to the PS1, a fanbase based on the first Uncharted, Sony's great marketing campaign, a multiplayer, and an exposured demo are all the reasons this will easily meet ND's 2.5 million expectation

yeah and it got bundled too. my PS3 are bundled with Resistance1 and Motorstorm. but im surprised those games sold that much.

I see no reason why they can't and pray for their success.

They weren't as hyped as there presdesessors either.

Uncharted 2 is way more hyped then it's first.

PS3 games tend to have good ssales legs, it wont sell 3mill straight away, but word of mouth and such will see it steadily rise.

cows like to hype their games to oblivion but for some reason they don't buy them (see Killzone 2, Infamous etc.). Halo 3 was an awesome game and deserved every sale it got.

i think it will sell more than 2.5mil in its first 6 months

Well, they had the Uncharted bundle for quite a while. As long as Sony decides to make a U2 PS3 bundle then it should sell well.

I think it'll reach around 3m, but who cares?

As long as I can find a multiplayer game, I couldn't care less how much it sold.

I think with the right marketing and word of mouth, this game will sell. Hell this thing may just sell itself.
