IS anybody else not the excited for a new console? Think about this. In the ps2/xbox era games only took one year to be completed
In this generation every game takes 2 years to be completed. Games as they evolve only take more & more time. If you want to see better games & better visuals then more time will be need
Next generation games will take 3 years to be completed. Didnt anybody else realize this. We wont see anything from the Uncharted 3 team for at least 3 years & then 3 years after that
Every dev is going to be releasing one game every 3 years.
The library of games for each generation gets significantly smaller. For the 1st few years of all the new consoles there wont be much if anything to play.
Oh BTW some games like Elder scrolls Skyrim take 3 years as of right now. Next gen a game like fallout 4 could take 4 years. If Fallout 4 is released on next gen system i gurantee we wont be seeing anything from bethesda for another 4 years. Im calling it right now.
HaloinventedFPS
better graphics doesnt mean it takes longer to make the game
most of that stuff is handled by the engine
there wont be a problem making games next gen, PC is allready in next gen with a few games
Im not saying better graphics. Im saying with each generation comes more complexity. Games are evolving & getting better. In order to make better games you need more time. Simple as that. Thats why the length in which games are made get lengthened with each generation. & graphics do slow down game development BTW
Next gen games will be made in no less than 3 years.

nah, they will become shorter if anything

if Sony waits for Nvidia's Maxwellgpu in 2013, then anything is possible.
nvidia'sMaxwell is going to be a complete new architecture with total new design.
HaloinventedFPS
doesnt matter, it will just gain a 10 maybe 20 percent boost, they change up the architecture and stuff all the time, AMD's new gpu's coming out late this month have a whole new cooling method, which will come in handy for the next xbox ;)
i suggest that you do some research on Maxwell before making comments.[QUOTE="HaloinventedFPS"]

Nope. You cant make better games & you cant experiment in game design without time. In game development time is everything. You could spend a lifetime on one game.
Development times will only get longer my friend. Game design is a long, trial & error, time consuming process.
I have faith in Naughty Dog. Every gen they make one of the best series of the gen. I'm sure it will be no different with the PS4. May Naughty Dog continue to live a long and prosperous life, and continue to produce excellent games.MingLeWinG
I know they will be fine, they are one of the most respectable developers in the industry, and has the $$ of Sony to support them.
I'm more worried about the other sonystudios, that are good, but not too good and they have terrible sells this gen.
Personally, I believe that everyone will be surprised by the development periods of next gen.
I think people seem to forget that this gen of consoles, namely the PS3 and 360, suffered from bottlenecks that surely hindered the development process for many developers. Of course, this is assuming that the next generation of consoles will be without such limitations and therefore I could be completely wrong. :P

metroid2004
That, and they create totally new engines for this gen, and now they already have some engines that are running "next gen" games already
[QUOTE="bbkkristian"]So in English, they are saying the development process will take longer on the new system?Pelon208
Not really, only that they are afraid because what happen to them in the PS2-PS3 transition.
Wait what happened to them during the PS2-3 transition?[QUOTE="Pelon208"]

Wait what happened to them during the PS2-3 transition?Apparently dark times.I mean it must've been difficult to dig deep into the PS3's hardware, figure out it's secrets, decode it, etc. Especially if you only had 2 years to do it.
Sounds like those "Experienced" Administrators, completely unwilling to accept a change in their network because "it works", so nothing is allowed to be changed and soon enough you're running an ancient network that "just works" even though transfers are slow as hell and everyone in the building hates their very old workstations which use CRT's...
Technology moves on, if you don't like it then you're in the wrong job.
I think that kind of goes without saying. I mean, it's like starting over again from scratch. On the other hand, I don't see why a lot of what you already know wouldn't translate to new hardware, since every component will be more powerful than what you had previously.
I look forward to ND's next gen endeavors. They are an excellent developer.

Wait what happened to them during the PS2-3 transition?Looks like they where having lots of pressure, and some people couldn't handle that pressure and left ND, Like one person a week.

I know, it's kind of lame that ND (one of the most ambitious teams on the graphics and technology department) is saying this, I mean this should be good news for them, they are going to be able to do more cool stuff than before.
[QUOTE="magicalclick"]Just slap on UE4, everything is smooth selling like Mess Effect and many other games, except crappy Too Human.Tikeio
Knowing Epic, the engine will most likely have texture pop-in. So I say "nay."
You know you only say that due to this gens consoles, we are talking about next gen.Sony simply needs to make a machine thats easier to code for, thats something microsoft definitely got right this gen. Make a console easier to develop on with the right hardware and assets and game dev's want to make games for it.... hmmmm, imagine that.
I'm imagining ps4 running games of "the samaritan" graphical quality, remember it's still a couple years away.
z4twenny
No kidding, hopefully Sony just keeps the Cell with more power. Or preferably, ditches the Cell altogether for something much more friendly for third-party developers.
[QUOTE="soapandbubbles"]Only thing terrifying is Naughty Dogs ego. JohnF111Yeah admitting they are scared and that their team has lost members is just pure ego right there  lol, keep believing everything you're told. ND know full well they will maximise the PS4, even easier than before knowing the complexity of cell and how sony will avoid the same mistake. They just want some cute attention from the fans.
Perhaps they had such a hard time transitioning from PS2 to PS3 was because of how incredibly complex and difficult it was to dev for the cell?
Maybe now Sony will play their cards right and have easier hardware to work with.
which is what will happen.Perhaps they had such a hard time transitioning from PS2 to PS3 was because of how incredibly complex and difficult it was to dev for the cell?

I sure hope so. I'd hate to go another 2 years with a really expensive (albeit nice-looking) paperweight.

Except that in 2007 alone, about a little less or more then a year after the PS3 launched, we had great games like: the first installment into the magnificent Unchartes series, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, and Ratchet and Clank released. And whats comical is that....in reality... It took about the same amount of time for the 360 after it launched, if not a little longer, for it(the 360) to receive its first big, and what was then its ONLY major exclusive of that year, in Gears of War, soooo lol! Seriously, this ridicolous forum myth that the PS3 had no games for several years needs to die already, and then it needs to be cremated. This is coming from a developer who has a flood of money coming to them. Imagine what it's going to be like for the rest of the game development community.
We're already beyond the threshold where improvements in technology have managed to make a serious dent in console libraries.

I would prefer UC graphics with 4xAA at 1080p and 60 FPS
I know its not going to happen, but that would be cool
SPYDER0416
UC3 graphics are meh dude
if PS4 is strong enough, it can pull off Metro 2033 level graphics in 1080p/4xaa at 60fps
we shall see
Usually at the beginning of a generation is when the games are the strongest and prettiest for a console, Metal Gear Solid 2 was the single prettiest game on any platform in the year of 2001 (and also ran spectacularly smooth at 60fps if I remember right), and Gears was pretty much unmatched for a couple of years in pure beauty and power.
I think Metro 2033 at 1080p and 60fps should be childs play for consoles once the start of the next gen comes around, hopefully they don't neglect resolution and framerate just to go for a beefier game in graphics.
Wrong there were plenty of PC games that looked better than MGS2 in 2001. And plenty of PC games looked as good as Gears of War on PC before and at release. The first years of a console are usually the least optimized. For the first few years of the Xbox 360 release my old 6800gt was performing better in most multiplats and playing at higher settings and res.Its comparable to this: George St. Pierre , who is a world champion fighter, says that he gets nervous/ and or scared/"terrified" before his fights, its how he feels, and he's honest about it, but he still goes out and does what he has to do and what needs to be done and wins consistently and exceptionally. Would you say that if Gsp didn't get nervous before a fight, he'd be "so so much better?" Its just honesty, and as long as the end results are brilliant then that's what mattersComing from the dev team that is known for cranking out all the juice from the system...Thata a little scary.
