need help making a decision between xbox 360 and ps3

ok, well here's the story. i bought a game for the ps2 and well i saw it compared to the next gen version. and it was like the only game i've anticipated for a long time and so i was kinda disappointed that it was somewhat a watered down version of the next gen games. anyways, i'm thinking about buying an xbox 360 or a ps3. now, i have this friend who can sell me his 360 for 275 dollars. ok first, he's used it for 3 years and i've seen that it still runs pretty well. he says its a 60 or 80 gig (i forget, but 60 is good enough) and that in 3 years, he's only had the red ring of death once. i trust him, and so i think his 360 might be a bit more reliable than others. however, i can't shake this feeling that it still might have a chance to break down. i'm thinking about the ps3 because i've always had a ps2, and it just seems more reliable. my other friend said he's gone through 3 360's and i don't want to be like that. so basically, should i buy a new ps3 that's almost 150 dollars more, or my friend's used but reliable 360? I would like to save money but i don't want to spend extra money on a 360 that might need repairing in the future. can someone help me? if u guys need any clarification on the situation let me know and i'll try to respond. thanks

No 360 is realiabe, they say a certain % of 360's break, imagine that was 50% (I know its not), that does not mean that 50% of those 360's are magically protected, they will all get it with enough play.

So the older it is, the worse it is. Believe me I got my 3660 at launch, and just as I though i would never get it a month ago it happened.

And as itsa your friends you wont get a replacement, the warrantys nearly out and its not really yours to MS. You will be stuffed.

So its either a new 360 or a new ps3.

Which has the games you want? and what do your friends have? as you may want to play with them online.

If it were up to me i would get a ps3, but its your choice, I also have a 360 and its also a great console, they both have good lineups so you cant go wrong either way :)

Well no 3 year old 360 has a 60 gb hard drive and if it got the rrod once its likely to get it again.

Since you have a PS2 I would get a PS3 because it will continue all the franchises and unique games you like.

To do that they would need to re-design the console. Someone who was banned frome here explained it really well. Its to do with the GPU or something getting hot and warped by cooling down quickly.

They need to move the heatsink.

I remember what that person told me. I can remember his online name though, he was pro ps3 but not much but was banned for some reason.

But as far as i know RROD wont be fixed completely with newer GPU's, or whatever it is that warps.

My 360 went playing GTA4, I pushed a shopkeeper, then ran him over as he went outside. I say he made my 360 get RROD for revenge :evil:

First,it will break on you, second,miicrosoft will abandon it very soon since it is not enough powerfull when comparing it with the PS3 now that the developpers begin to exploit a reasonable percentage of its power, second,you can play blue ray movies in 1080p. Also,the PS3 still have about 7-8 years to go. Its reliable, and most of all, THERE ARE PLENTY OF GREAT GAMES. I must remind you that the best graphics are on the PS3 exclusives by a reasonable margin. And PSN will be by far superior to xbox live when home launches, and it's free !!! I must say that fable2 and gears of war two will be great, but on par with our 2008 exclusives.cramoisi

well IMO ps3 would be great for you free online (live is 50$ a year). Great hardware (no RROD). plus it has a bunch of great exclusives coming out. Some good games out now for it are Warhawk, MGS4, Disgaea 3, Resistance, Ratchet and clank, Uncharted.

Xbox- has a great library right now. It has most of the rpgs this gen for right now. Some good games for it are halo 3 , gears of war, viva pinata. It is a great system it just breaks a lot.

A 360 would be a huge mistake. Unless you know, you want to play the biggest and highest rated games library. Wow, maybe he is like me and doesnt like unreliable hardware. I wasnt a cow earlier this gen, but then rrod happened. It is a huge problem. I still like the 360 but most of the games it has dont appeal to me.

to the op, well i see you are leaning towards a ps3 and i think you should go with what will help you right now if the cheaper 360 is better for you pockets then get the 360. Of course you will have to deal with the RROD. Ps3 is more reliable then the 360 but you do have to pay a little more. But if you consider what you get with a ps3 compared to a 360 then the ps3 is the better buy. You get wifi, a blu-ray player, free online, wireless controller that charges( 360 you have to buy a charge kit). Plus it has most multi-plats. I say go with the ps3 if you can. What game is making you want to jump to the new consoles?

star wars the force unleashed :/ not only did the graphics matter to me, but also i saw that the next gen versions of the game got so much more in terms of gameplay and emotions and stuff. it just made me realize that if i ever want to be satisfied with another game, i'm most likely going to have to upgrade to a next gen system. and the extra 150 dollars isn't too much....i can still afford it so money isn't so much a factor for me as it was in the beginning. what matters to me most is reliablity. then money. but it appears as if with the 360 im going to have to buy all this extra stuff, recharging stuff, online gameplay...stuff i could get for free with the ps3...for now i'm in favor of the ps3 but i still want to see if someone can change my mind.Freedom24-7

Well i say a ps3 for you if you want reliable hardware the ps3 has it. Yes you do have to buy a lot of add-ons for the 360 just to be on an even field with the ps3 thats why i only use the 360 for exclusives. Ps3 beat 360 in reliability always has and always will. Plus if you get a ps3 or 360 you can download the demo of force unleashed and see if you like it. Both are great but like i said when i got my ps3 i was happy now i dont have to deal with the rrod or dre problems the 360 has.

I was in the same boat as yo, undecided on a next-gen console. I looked into value instead of price(although the PS3 is cheap for what you are getting). For a 150 more bucks, you are getting a game system, BluRay player. free internet, Wi-Fi, and a controller that does not need batteries. Not to mention there is a whole lot of great games already out and more to look foward to.
