No ability to play old NES games, and no ability to download new ones...
Maybe this new NES will make a good stocking stuffer, but otherwise...... why? It could have been so awesome.

@Collie_Lover: "I will just continue with the library on the Wii U or Nintendo Switch if I need to. "
Wouldnt that be the better route since you can add games to it?
No, because you don't have the NES Classic console, NES Controller, and compilation of games valued at ~$150 for only $60.
@Collie_Lover:
You don't like all 30 games. Plus I'd argue you most likely can beat all those games in a week.
Which ones do you think I don't like? Yeah right, you probably couldn't beat Pac-Man in a week.

Its been 30 years and i still havnt beat Metroid or that dang Zelda game. Nor Pac-man.

I never played either of those, but I want to. (The first and only Zelda game I ever beat was The Legend of Zelda: a Link to the Past). I have been trying to beat Ghosts 'n Goblins for 30 years and have not beat it.

And this is at both of you. 30 years ago, you were kids, games actually gets easier as you gain experience.

I highly doubt all 30 games will keep your attention.
@PSP107: I actually wasnt born 30 years ago. I tried playing Metroid on my Wii U and couldnt beat it. And thats with the new easy save mode.

Beat all of those games in a week? LOL. Clearly you don't have much experience with the NES and don't know what the old phrase "Nintendo Hard" is all about. The NES had incredibly difficult games and many of them are included with the NES Classic Edition. There is no way in hell that you will beat all of them in a week. Some of them are so hard that you will probably never beat them. I've been trying for my entire life to beat Ghosts 'N Goblins and Ninja Gaiden and I still haven't beat them.

80's baby 90's kid here. So I'm familiar with NES.
And I like I said earlier, those games were harder on you because you were younger. Now that you much older, it probably wouldn't be that difficult.
Also games that were hard had alot to do with cheap AI and bad unbalanced design. Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter are both quilty of this.
What the hell is the reason for a 2 and a half foot cord? Who approved that? It seems like the most obvious design choice. People will be playing this console on big hdmi screens a lot of the time, so why in the hell does Nintendo expect them to sit so close to the screen?
@hillelslovak: Reviewers claim it seems the design was because you have to hit the reset button a lot. Im thinking its also for PC users as it has USB capabilities.

That sounds like bs. Not much harder to press the reset button with a longer cord. Only thing the longer cord does is give the user more freedom.
@hillelslovak: Yeah, but then i look silly plugging it up to my Wii U with an 8ft cord. Wireless would have been nice, but then people would have whined it wasnt "classic".

Yeah, if they gave a shit about the nostalgia, they would not bother with this one. The og nintendo did not have hdmi. At least put a little reset button on the controller itself.
@hillelslovak: Its easy to look over that. Its hard to tell your child you use to game on a device just like this, except it wasnt wireless.
The nostalgia of the NES Classic Mini and the controller are strong. For an older gamer like me, there is just something both amusing and satisfying about playing games on the Mini because it is ~2 original game cartridges in size, but contains a library of 30 games. “Retro Blast from the Past!”
The megadrive version is far superior more games, wireless controllers and the ability to play the cartridges
I just got mine. Picked it up with my dad... coincidentally very much like how we picked up my N64 in the past. So that just added to the nostalgia feeling. I never had a NES so I never played some of the games people call fundamental. Been playing a bit of Super Mario Brothers and immediately found some weird way to get to world 2, 3 or 4? :P And after dying very embarrassingly to a flying turtle I tried Balloon Fight. Got pretty far the second try, to the point it repeats levels. Maybe we'll see a thread on the Nintendo board where we can post our highscores.
Anyway, I plug it into my PC so the short cords are not a problem for me. They would be a major problem for people with any other setup though. I guess the cords are to scale like the console itself? Hmm. It looks great on my desk and so far I really enjoy it. I do have to say that the d-pad feels a little more mushy than I had hoped. Don't know if the old NES controllers were that way too.
I'm looking forward to Punchout, Zelda II and Castlevania the most but I'm going to give them all a try, of course.
BTW there is a Pixel Perfect mode and a 4:3 mode... I think 4:3 is more authentic? What do you use?
@KungfuKitten: Congratulations on getting the NES Classic. Balloon Fight is a really fun 2p, and you can use a Wii Classic Controller in the 2nd port for 2p. I have just been playing Dr. Mario for 2 hours I think-really addictive. Now my little girl is playing it, but my wife who is a Tetris expert has an advantage on us. Played a little Metroid and I think I am going to like this one too. We have a extra PC monitor and might hook it up to that sometime. For now we are playing it old school on the TV with the console sitting on a box in front of the TV, and a chair and bean bag to sit on. We have the resolution set to "picture perfect". I love the fast start up and load times. Everyone knows that wireless is more convenient, but the NES Classic is just a neat little console for retro gamers. I never played the Legend of Zelda or Zelda II: The Adventure of Link; and looking forward to these games as well. You were lucky to get one, hope you have with the Mini.
@KungfuKitten: Congrats, and yeah, would be cool to have a NES Classic forum post for everyone to post about the games. Its awesome people are enjoying Balloon Fight, im a fan of Balloon Kid and Balloon Fight, both great games. Hope Nintendo will one day make a new one.
$60 for this? Not worth it imo. If I ever were to get it ill only play it for 2 days then question why I spent $60 plus tax on a damn little toy loaded with 25 plus year old games. No thanks. I have a wii. If I ever get that itch to play a old game I'll download it there or on my pc.
I have so many friends in their 30s+ that have left the hobby behind years again who will buy this on site. Nintendo didn't make this thing for Hard-core gamers, they made it for the nostalgia crowd that has zero interest in a modern day console.
Still I'm gonna wait for a longer cord I think. 2.5 feet? That won't work.
@Pedro: I agree, id skip it and buy the Switch. IMO of course.
Depends on what the Virtual Console is like on Switch. I hope it's good.
When you see the comparison screenshots between NES Classic and Wii/Wii U...wow, the difference is night and day (in favour of NES Classic). :-)
I took out mario all stars for my Wii last night. Played it for a little bit. That cured me of my nostalgia hungry bug. I can wait for the mini nes.

This. I have an older sister who I don't remember playing video games growing up that wants this. I think these things are equivalent to a mini basketball hoop that you could hang on your doors in an office or home. It's just a little cute nostalgic toy.
As for the cord, they have extension cables for sale. I'll probably get that or one of those third party wireless controllers since they're also cheap.
Personally, I'd just get all the Games from Wii Virtual Console and use the Controller. But Nintendo made less of those Controllers than the Minis so just turning the Wiimote sideways for me then...
^ Yup...don't see why I would want/need to buy this..VC have the games listed. :P

Without the HDMI port. If it had that I would have got it.
Too expensive.
£160 on amazon, nope.
The Sega Genesis Atgames Classic Game Console 2014 is half the price, comes with 80 games and can accept cartridges.
I've no desire to have this, I mean already get my nostalgia fill playing the classic NES games on Wii/WiiU via the Virtual Console selection from the eShop. I'm fine with that, less clutter.
