Umm... winning? Like, who really doubts this game will be great? NAPK1NS

*raises hand*

It is nice and flashy but I just feel the gameplay is pretty bad....

This reminds me of the really bad summer blockbuster movies where they show tons of explosions and crap and people go "OMG BEST MOVIE EVER" while I am left completely unimpressed....

Edit: Felt the need to re-word some of it.

[QUOTE="jamejame"]

It'll be between this and Portal 2 for my non-RPG single player game of the year. Considering the amount of high-caliber titles releasing this quarter alone, that's still some damn high praise. Its seriously going to have to pull out all of the stops to beat Portal 2 though, which had the best pacing easily in any game I've ever played; right ahead of Half Life 2. Uncharted 3 looksphenomenal though, but so did Uncharted 2, which I personally thought had pretty lackluster pacing overall. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. Either way, bad pacing or not, I CAN NOT WAIT.

Batman AC, and Gears are up there as well.

Ehh, despite my sig, Gears 3's campaign was disappointing to me. I actually think Gears 2 was the best in that regard, thankfully the multiplayer is just incredible.

Batman: AC I haven't played yet. Picked it up today but I'm saving it until my essay is done -- yet ironically I'm on GameSpot :P. I've heard nothing but insanely high praise though, but seeing as how I found the first somewhat overrated (but still quite good), I don't expect this to blow my mind like the others will.

Honestly, if I had to add a third runner up I think it would be Saints 3. Every trailer I see just gets me giddier and giddier anticipating that GTA action we never got this gen.

It will be 8.5'd here while other sites give it the 9.0 it deserves.

It'll probably garner quite a few perfect scores, as every high profile game does and will. How it scores from the big boys is what counts. I'm sticking with my 9.0 prediction here, but who knows?

I still don't understand how anyone could say uncharted 2 was a bad game. It is stilll one of the best designed games from any standpoint. One of the best soundtracks, fantastic set pieces (easily some of the best), great level design (ice temple), among other stuff. I still think it is one of the greatest games ever made. Probably has to do though that it is the highest rated xbox 360/playstation 3 exclusive though. I don't understand how games like mass effect 2 which is actually a game that has tons of faults compared to uncharted 2 (like tons, it is a really mediocre game) and yet uncharted 2 is always trolled and Mass Effect 2 never appears on this board.

What bad gameplay? Have you ever played any Uncharted game? Have you even seen any of the gameplay preview of Uncharted 3? Every preview has been like: "best Uncharted yet". I mean, Uncharted 2 is one of the highest rated game of this gen for a reason...

I am sorry, but these games really strike as like the Michael Bay of video games. It's "OMG LOOK AT THOSE GRAPHICS! I MEAN CHECK OUT DEM SPLOSIONS!!!".

All flash and no substance I feel.

And God who cares about reviews seriously? I might use reviews to help me decide wht to do when I am really on the fence about a game, but beyond that reviews can be really stupid. I care about how I experience the game, not what some other person felt about the game.

I will remember, however, to shove any prospective disappointing scores in the hype wagons face should they occur. :P

Haha nice troll.

BTW I can't stand Battlefield. I find that series to be way overhyped as well and have yet to ever have any fun with a Battlefield game...

Ahh...k. So youve NEVER played this game in ANY way, shape or form in your entire life, and are going by what you've SEEN, yet you somehow know the multiplayer you've never played is "braindead" (multiplayer that Ive played every day for the past 3 weeks in the beta), that the gameplay (that youve never played) sucks, and that its "all flash and no substance" (that you've STILL never played) . Just clearing that up.

Yea, your opinion is worth a whole lot here.

Hey system wars, heres an idea......why dont you actually try PLAYING the game? Just a silly thought ;)

But what part of this: http://youtu.be/u3P9Y-at_JI?hd=1 looks like bad gameplay?!!! If your problem is that it looks too easy that's because demos are often played in easy mode. But Uncharted games have always have a difficulty called "crushing mode" were they remove the aim assist and you die after 3-4 shots so you're forced to use more cover and play smarter.

And I'm talking to you from personal experience. People often say that Uncharted is too linear, is too easy, the platforming is pointless, etc. But if they only took the time to actually play the game and understand why it is the way it is they would understand why this franchise is so good. First, the platforming opens up the doors to verticality and more variety. You can shoot enemies while hanging onto an edge, jump on them and ND can take the liberty to create less boring environment and connect the different areas in more creative ways since you can jump. Second, the game is linear but that doesn't mean easy or boring, just that it is more focused. That a game is open ended like Fallout or Farcry doesn't automatically makes it more fun, in fact quite the contrary. Just think about 2D games but with more freedom... But what really makes Uncharted's gameplay so great is that the most epic moments in the game are totally seamless. You're always in control of Drake until the very end, until the narration starts. Just watch the link that I posted and you'll understand.

And on top of this, Uncharted story is cliched but it is on purpose, the game doesn't ever tries to be pretentious like FFXIII or the new DMC reboot. Uncharted strong points are the story-telling and characters and let me get this straight. On that regard Uncharted is the best of this generation and that is a FACT. Anybody that tries to debate this is either a fanboy or have no idea what is he talking about. Just like that.

And here I'm not talking about scores, I'm talking about Uncharted pushing the envelope of game development.

There was gameplay? Looked like a bunch of QTEs. It didn't look bad, but it looked incredibly boring. I never bothered to play Crushing, but I played through UC2 on hard and everything was a joke for difficulty. I had more trouble with NSMB.

Uncharted is the definition of linear. It's impossible to get lost in these games unless you have the attention span of a fly. If someone thinks making a game open world would be more fun, that's there opinion. It's not fact that making it open world would make it less fun. I rather like the idea of that for Uncharted. So the most epic moments are where you're watching the next scripted scene take place, or through another cutscene and not playing are the best parts?

Platforming is the only thing Uncharted is good at, but they need to work on certain animations like landing and attacking. In UC2, most of the time I was telling myself that Drake should not have survived what he just jumped to. Not because what he did, but the animation fell short of the landing gap yet he magically grabbed onto the ledge. In one of those new videos where he's in the desert city and jumps down some stairs to attack someone, he shouldn't have made that attack. He floats a bit in the air just to make it so he doesn't fall short.

I'm not sure what I hate more in Uncharted, the unsatisfying gunplay or that it feels too much like a bad action movie and not enough like a game.

There's a reason people call it an action movie rather than a game. They feel like there's far too much going on that doesn't need to be there, and they aren't getting enough control and gameplay time. Also you are not always in control of Drake.

And on top of this, Uncharted story is cliched but it is on purpose, the game doesn't ever tries to be pretentious like FFXIII or the new DMC reboot. Gue1

Uncharted is the best of this generation for what? It certainly isn't gameplay, graphics, sound, being original, or a combination of those elements. Anyone who tries to push that as fact has no idea what they're talking about and is 100% biased.

Uncharted does nothing for the industry except encourage developers to focus on presentation over gameplay and content. The same element that drives development costs so damn high.

Uncharted 2 pushed the bar for set pieces. Anyone that doesn't acknowledge this is insane. You are going to see tons of games emulating camera angles, cinematic action pieces, among other from uncharted series. That is innovatve. And how does this game have unsatysfying gunplay. This seems drivel to me since the game mechanics seemed actually spot-on unlike the original. I am wondering how you came to this arguement.

Allright.

  1. Go 'This' way
  2. Cheesy action movie style sad/lovely cut-scene
  3. No choice to sneak on plane, just follow standard script
  4. Run 'This' way again
  5. Action movie typical explosion
  6. Run 'This' way
  7. QTE followed by clumsy looking gunplay (then again TPS' not to mention console shooters always look a bit clumsy)
  8. QTE, ~action grab gun mid air~
  9. Run 'This' way
  10. Clumsy gunplay
  11. Run 'This' way
  12. Predictable action movie-esque cut-scene (btw, the plane does look good, hell, i'll be honest, it's a pretty game) gets on plane last second
  13. Go 'This' way
  14. QTE fighting sequence

How much of that is you actually playing the game? That's the problem, it doesn't look like much gameplay. You're just being pushed through it, it's a somewhat interactive cinematic. They made a good action movie (maybe even better than Hollywood {as if that's an accomplishment }) but it doesn't, to me, look like a great game.

Now, if it was a Sci-fy movie... I still don't want QTE's (ever) and I want more shooting.

Also it doesn't look like there's ever good, fun, enemy synergy going on. An example being Halo, where you have a few grunts, jackles and eliets, all serving a roll in a battle and working together.

I am not impressed at all by it, as i was not by Uncharted 1-2

It is just another few hours rent to me and that is all, it does look good of course, but is another shallow casual linear shooter in the million, i dont see what the fuss is all about

I will still be playing Dark Souls years after i finish Uncharted 3 in a single day of repeatitve shooting and cut scenes

Also i prefer Gears 3 world, setting and monsters to the Uncharted series setting and world by far

[QUOTE="Gue1"]But what part of this: http://youtu.be/u3P9Y-at_JI?hd=1 looks like bad gameplay?!!!

Inconsistancy

Allright.

You haven't played any uncharted game.

I am wondering how you came to this arguement.

nhh18

Set pieces? So it is a movie then. I don't pay $60 for movies. Those games that are going to "emulate" Uncharted, won't be part of my collection so I don't give a damn.

Because the only gun worth a damn is the pistol. I used that whenever I could. Headshots were so easy to pull off with that and the M4. It feels so pointless when the melee combat is much more satsifying.

You haven't played any uncharted game.

nhh18

You haven't played an Uncharted game. :|

We can do that too.

For someone who hates all systems except for the 360 I find it strange that you suddenly have all systems, in fact I would go as far to say that you only have a 360.
