Ok, I'm a little excited that we're going to see a new, and hopefully the best release of the 360. I was going to splurge a bit of money on the elite this week, but to my dismay all but a few 360 have been sold out of my area. I asked a friend what was up, and he said that MS hasn't been sending any out. So either 1 of 2 things is happening MS is releasing a new 360 model, or they've decided to copy nintendo's strategy of keeping the system in low supply (just kidding, but seriously I can't find a DS either).

Personally I'm rooting for the new elite that won't RROD, has wireless built in, and maybe an HD-DVD since they are cheap as hell right now for around $350.

Anyway anybody else got any speculation on a new 360, or why MS isn't restocking.

MS hasn't kept the Elite in stock since it was released.

Current theory is MS is horrible at business.

Or they are holding back on releasing inventory until they can fix the RROD issues.

I think with the death of the HD DVD coming....MS will not push for a 360/HS DVD. I think there may have been one planed but has been dropped.

MS had been regularly sending out Elites to retailers, now they are not (or at least not to one retailer).

hold on I'm still laughing at your second response.

Elites have an acceptable RROD failure rate.

I have a friend who manages a gamestop store and yes the 360 has not been restocked at all lately. I expect we will hear some kind of word on that next week, but there are some popular speculations out there already.

Personally, I think MS was going to take a step back and focus their efforts at a $400 SKU with built-in HD-DVD with WiFi features but had to hold back on the new sku to remove the HD-DVD drives. Another possibility could be that MS has actually discovered the reason by which the hardware has been leading to failure and has done an internal 'recall' of sorts so that they can fix the issues and then reship them, of course keeping things on the hush in order to avoid the bad press. If this sceanario turns out to be true, expect gamestop stores to start receiving 360 shipments out of the blue within a few weeks and in a larger than average quantity.

Another speculation could be that MS is preparing to release a new Xbox all together and is starting to cut off shipments of 360's to encourage purchases of their new console when it gets released. This is the most off the wall sceanario, and completely unlikely to be happening at this point.

I don't know, but hopefully this has something to do with them fixing their RROD problems.

Really, they haven't. Shipments of Elites have always been ridiculously light.

It was more tongue and cheek. Who knows what goes on in Redmond.

I'm speaking to the whole 360 line.

Again, just theories that are out there. Don't everyone get their panites in a wad at once.

possible, I don't see why not. People get wifi, blu ray, and a standard HDD for $400 from Sony while you only get 1/3 of that from MS right now

They might be pulling out of the console market altogether because they can't penetrate the Asian or European markets and the American economy is tanking hard.

Or maybe they want to "relaunch" the 360 with a slim version, 20GB harddrive, and wifi.

Or maybe...MAYBE...maybe...they are just being cute.

A 360 using a bigger HDD and built-in WiFi is most likely going to happen this year. The new Jasper chipset is to launch this Fall using both CPU and GPU at 65nm. I don't see HD-DVD being a help to MS now.

Prediction... The 360 will remain in short supply for this month as well. Sometime next month MS will start shipping 360's with a new cooling system and/or the 65nm gpu that we've heard about. This will come with a PRICE DROP as well. All of course leading up to the launch of GTA IV.

I know its just a guess, but thats how I think it will pan out.

He was making a wish. Hense him saying "I am rooting for the new Elite". He wants them to add these feature to the new SKUs. Maybe you shouldn't get ahead of YOURSELF and read every word.
