Some New Tidbits
- AW had 4 clear goals for the design:
1) Psychological action thriller
2) Introduces light as a part of the new gameplay mechanic
3) A movie like story, set in a big, free roam environment
4) Must score 9+ from reviews
- No set release date. They'll work for as long as they feel they need to. Quality is the highest priority.
- Remedy consists of only 30 people. (They outsource a lot)
- They couldn't find a suitable engine, so they made their own.
- Their SDK are so flexible that they can test all changes on both platforms as soon as they are made.
- They've taken 40 000 pictures for the game in the northwest US. They might take antoher 40 000 before they are done.
- Story is told like a TV-series, where doing missions advances the plot. Some "episodes" end in cliffhangers, others are slower paced and geared towards character development and showing Alan's past. They want to get that "Just one more episode" addiction in the game.
- The script for Max Payne 2 was 650 pages long (with a page for every mintue of action in the game). The script for AW will be multiple times longer.
- The plot in AW is tied to episodes, but the world isn't. You'll be able to wander around Bright Falls freely and without any artificial rush, but the story won't advance if you just roam the forests aimlessly.
- Lots of exploring and talking to other people can reveal surprising secrets.
- A strong light vs dark theme. A setting sun means bad news for mr Wake. At night you have to find shelter or arm yourself. Light is the only weapon against the shadowy figures, since they are invulnerable in the dark. Too bad Alan is allergic to light (?).
- "What is real and what is just Alan's nightmare?"
- Battles will be desgined with "quality over quantity" in mind. They want the battles to feel special and exciting.
- "The furhter the 'first season of Alan Wake' progresses, the longer the night for the writer becomes"
LOL unimpressed...crysis looks pretty crap and this looks even more crap.hahawatyo

agreed 360 is amazing.
LOL are you seriously trying to state these are Xbox 360 screens? The only gameplay of this game that was shown was running on a Quad Core Pentium running at 3.7ghz with two 88000 GTS. LOL I doubt they even have an Xbox 360 version of this game up and running.

LOL Show me a link were they have ever had a playable demo of the Xbox 360s version. LOL These shots have already been posted one time today anyway. It's like I said earlier lemmings are mainly the ones hyping this game and there has yet to be any footage of the Xbox 360 version LOL.
[QUOTE="hahawatyo"]lol crysis is just as ugly VaasmanSo if Crysis is ugly then what is pretty?Beautiful Katamari! :P
please don´t hype this, every game you hype, flops
blitzkid
Giancar
First: Ive only hyped one game Naruto Broken Bond
Second : I said Fable 2 would flop and it did it got the score i said it would get .
Third: Who is blizkid?
3) A movie like story, set in a big, free roam environmentPS3BreederThat sounds like a great idea, I can only imagine how it must be to play it.
4) Must score 9+ from reviewsPS3BreederThat sort of hyping never turns out well.
- No set release date. They'll work for as long as they feel they need to. Quality is the highest priority.PS3BreederExcellent.
- They've taken 40 000 pictures for the game in the northwest US. They might take antoher 40 000 before they are done.PS3BreederThat sort of dedication gives me hope that the setting will be believable, and downright awesome.
- Story is told like a TV-series, where doing missions advances the plot. Some "episodes" end in cliffhangers, others are slower paced and geared towards character development and showing Alan's past. They want to get that "Just one more episode" addiction in the game.PS3BreederThat really just seems like standard open-world mission structure to me.
- The script for Max Payne 2 was 650 pages long (with a page for every mintue of action in the game). The script for AW will be multiple times longer.PS3BreederAs I said before, that's dedication, and it's a hallmark of fantastic games.
- A strong light vs dark theme. A setting sun means bad news for mr Wake. At night you have to find shelter or arm yourself. Light is the only weapon against the shadowy figures, since they are invulnerable in the dark. Too bad Alan is allergic to light (?).PS3BreederThat's an interesting concept, and hopefully it distinguishes Awake from the pack.
- "What is real and what is just Alan's nightmare?"PS3BreederWorrisome. "It was all just a dream" happens to be the single worst conclusion to anything, ever. Hopefully, Remedy uses this debacle to intensify the mood, rather than as a cheap, unsatisfying way to conclude their game.
- Battles will be desgined with "quality over quantity" in mind. They want the battles to feel special and exciting.PS3BreederWhat developer doesn't? This just seems like a standard, worthless, hype creating comment.
- "The furhter the 'first season of Alan Wake' progresses, the longer the night for the writer becomes" PS3BreederThey should really be more clear. What specifically do they mean by this? Regardless, I'm not sure if it really adds anything to the game. Perhaps it will ratchet up the intensity as you near completion, but other than that, it doesn't seem to really be noteworthy as far as features go.
---------------------------------
Anyway, all in all, that intensified my hype for Awake. There are some things I'm uncertain about (I'm looking at you "nightmare" story), but there was more than enough there to get me excited for it. For now, I'll give Remedy the benefit of the doubt, and I'll assume that this will be an excellent game.

It's pretty clear the PC is the lead platform, there is currently no footage of a 360 build.

Remedy said both wiull look identical illlisten to them instead of some random fanboy.
The game looks good, not quite up there with Heavy Rain as far as the visuals... but the episoic content so far as the gameplay & character development sound like they could be even more interesting than Heavy Rain's gameplay.haze_blaze
Says the guy with the ps3 sig.

That's not fanboyism... there's just NO such thing as a console game looking identical to a PC game. PC's pack a lot more power, period. It's been like that every gen... where have you been?
Still, the game will hopefully be awesome.

Well I shouldn't have stated it as fact. Considering all the other tech demoes have been on PC thus far (http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2006/09/26/Intel_shows_Core_2_Quad_threaded_Alan_Wake/) (it's an old link but whatever) and how good it looks I think it's safe to assume that. We don't have any solid confirmation either way at the moment.
