Yeah my main concern is that while they say they took inspiration from the original they also say the game will have more combat to please new players. Anyway, I'm a huge fan of the original and I hope they make something good with it.
I'm fine with looking lower budget, that has very little impact of it's a well designed and well implemented game.
I think there is too much over the shoulder shooting. Last time I remember, there was more melee combat than anything. There is not enough mystery here.
I don't know much of Alone in the Dark franchise as I never play a single game but I have watch the movie version back in 2005. If the reviews turns out good, I'll play it.
Loved the original back In the days, but this trailer along with the devs comment about more focus on combat makes me somewhat dubious we will get more than a clone of resident evil, which certainly wasn’t what the game was back in the days! That being said, I will keep an eye out for it! Has there been any mention of a release date?
@davillain: Haha, I've tried to watch that like 3 times, and I can't get past the 10 minute mark without bailing or falling asleep.
The first few games are still good, but the later games are pretty meh.
I was entertained enough by its badness. Tara Reid, not Uwe Boll, was definitely the worst thing about it. In all seriousness, though the second half is totally badass and a pretty huge shift in tone from the beginning. Watch it again man, you know you want to😏
Gameplay looked pretty weak and uninspired (which is probably why we only got a few seconds of it), and the characters look awful, especially their hair. But I like the setting..
I'm gonna go ahead and guess that the game will be pretty bad.

Reading a bit more about it, It's being made by the swedish Pieces Interactive (Magicka 2 and some Titan Quest expansions). A dude called Mikael Hedberg is the writer (Amnesia and Soma). Cud be gud? Haven't played either Magicka 2 or the TQ expansions..
Alone in the Dark is intriguing, but I'm not sure how intrigued I'll be. I for one need to see more, but it has "bargain bin pickup" written all over it at this point in time. I'd love to be proven wrong though. We need to keep the ball rolling and keep releasing games from older franchises that fell seemingly off a cliff... just keep the remasters away and give us new games. Remakes aren't that bad since they can take a lot creative freedoms in recreating a new world with familiar aspects, however I would almost always prefer a new game.. whether that be a sequel, prequel, spinoff, or stand alone.
Btw, in Steam the first trilogy and AitD 2008 are at around $1.5.
The original is a ground breaking game that every gamer should try, there you have the foundation to 3rd person 3D games and Resident Evil wouldn't exist without it. Never played the 2008 one. After a bit of a struggle to run it on Win11 I'll now play it.
